I'm desperate here, pls help! :(
I've been just informed by CDNOw that concerning the order I did during
the 10$ discount period, that 1 CD is on backorder! It was nicely
writtem in the mail that I can cancel that item and have the rest CDs
shipped immediately! "Cool" - I thought, I'll do that! So I go and do
it, and the next screen appearing after I clicked that CANCEL button,
showed the remaining titles of my order, calculated in their USUAL
PRIZE!!!! What the heck??? I completed my order with the discount and I
got confirmation that says the total prize INCLUDED the discount! And
now this! How can it be??? Can they do that??? Was it my mistake that
the item was on backorder? Just because I made that change now when the
discount period is over, don't tell me that's the way it works - I get
the whole prize! What if I didn't do anything?
And now the prize that was shown was some 15$ higher! ;(
I'm in the mood of killing someone...

> Yeah really, I can't wait to hear his new album! Does anyone heard > anything! I heard a rumour there are singing songs on JAPANESE?!?!?! :)
Actually the first song, The Blood & Tears, has something of a strange linguistic approach. From the album sleeve it says Steve performed everything, but there's this part where he's singing in this odd tongue (if it's even him). He must have popped his voice into a filter cuz it doesn't even sound remotely like him (Or it's a sample). But the language and style of singing sound more Middle Eastern to me, perhaps even Indian (Bombay Vindaloo anyone?).
Overall, the album has a very cool vibe. It's more eccentric than Fire Garden. Very Zappa-esque in alot of places. The song Frank is dedicated to Zappa in the liner notes, although it doesn't sound as Zappa-like as Lucky Charms to me (which is track 10). The Song Jibboom is a tip of the hat to Stevie Ray (not the wrestler).
While musically it didn't astound me from the first listen (I've only had time for one listen), technically, it's an irrational wonder. Perhaps it's not musically as complete and captivating as his previous works, but I think it's his innovative peak thus far. I thought Ron Thal had the current monopoly on insane music, but Steve's thrown his gauntlet and I think it's a fair challenge. :)
Since Fire Garden really didn't grow on me until after the first few listens, I think it's safe to assume that this one will only get better as well. :) -- KorgX3 is the Korgodile Punter, mate. NP: Steve Vai - The Ultra Zone

You do. I've had the full Q2K for months now, and uninspired is the perfect adjective for it as a whole. As for Risk, as a guitarist I'm very disappointed, but I've learned to like it OK as an album, with a few exception songs. Sure it's their worst album and overtly commercial, but at least....I don't know, I'd rather a band I like sell out and at least put some effort and work into selling out (heh heh) than a band I like put out something totally bland and emotionless (Q2K), as strange as that may sound.

You just plain dont boot a guy for issues like that, you say, take a break and get back to us when your head is back in it. Didnt anyone learn from the van halen/sammy hagar incident? Believe me, i have also wondered the same thing about DT, IM still a little bit unsure why they changed keyboardists, Derek seemed to fit well on many levels, and was probably the one member that was closest to commercial mainstream/success that the band has ever had. Just looking at his resume should key one into his ability. But the topic at hand, ne wmegadteh, I heard crushem on the radio, and thought it should be called crutchem, because that to me is what it needed. it has no hooks, and nothing to make me remember it by. Is it possible that Megadeth could posibly be suffering from the thoughts of, "hey we have been around forever, one of us has even been in metallica, weve made alot of money - we can fart on a record, It'll sell let's try it." When will they learn, the only person that could have farted on a record and gotten away with it is frank sinatra. Ohh well, just my highly opinionated thoughts put out on the table for discussion and review. merry christmas, and remember if it doesnt say fish sticks on the box, it probably never lived in the water.

I knew that, and tried it for several days, but the server was not responding; hence my query on the list. I probably should have mentioned that.
I also just needed an excuse to test the new list address; the ax.com mailserver refused to accept any posts from me. Apparently ax.com subscribe to some anti-spam blackholing system, and unfortunately my mail server here has found its way on to their "list". :-(

"Malmsteen recently spoke about his latest material: This is the first time I've made a record that is completely and utterly uncompromising. It's extremely self-indulgent, and it's extremely extreme, and I do not have any regrets about that at all. Some people might want to criticize that, and I truly honestly don't care. This is really what I want to do at this time, and I have a gut feeling that this is what my fans want, too. If they don't, well, I'm sorry... but as I said, this is my most uncompromising record. Even more that the original Rising Force, and a lot more than Marching Out or Trilogy. It doesn't have any ballads or commercial-oriented songs. It's all full throttle, from the beginning to the end. Just when you think it might let up and give you a break, it slams you again from another direction. Seventy-two minutes of madness." According to management, Malmsteen kicks off a worldwide tour on Halloween in Miami doing 3 weeks of dates including the New York area, Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco then on to Japan,Southeast Asia, South America, Europe, U.S. and Canada. So according to HardRadio.com, the new album is called Scenes from a Memory. I'm almost positive that it's disinformation, probably from the mischievous MP! It's a tease, because I'm sure they wouldn't name it after a well-known bootleg that just happens to give a hint of Metropolis to it. So who do you guys think is the guest musician(s) from New Jersey that James mentioned in the chat? It's probably some local sax player or something, but it would kick serious ass if Symphony X's Michael Romeo played with JP in an ass kicking song. JP's got enough guitar to cover it by himself though! Also, James said the CD is about 77 minutes! Hell yeah! He said there was no left over either. It's probably better that way, because someone would complain that a particular cut track didn't make the album! So that means there are no left overs for the christmas CD. Which may mean that Met. 2 with Derek might me on the christmas CD, or maybe just the making of the new album type of thing. Preston

I found this little tidbit on Wired News (www.wired.com). It was in an article discussing the ongoing debate between record companies and artists over how to best utilize the Internet. I thought this section was rather amusing:
Liars for profit: Speaking to the marketing power of the Net, MCA's Sarig shamelessly admitted one of the dirty secrets of so called grassroots marketing: "We have a guerrilla marketing team that goes on America Online [to] individual Web sites and poses as fans. They say, 'Hey, you've got to check out this band,' just like real fans." Well, not JUST like real fans.
Makes you think carefully about who's posting and raving about bands on newsgroups and mailing lists. Of course, the types of music we discuss here are so far below the industry concern level, I doubt they'd bother. They're all too busy attempting to stir up interest in the next Backstreet Boys opus.
Thomas Dolby (remember him?) also has an interesting mini-rant against the current record company structure, which is also on the Wired site. Check it out if you're interested. And no, before someone asks, I have nothing to do with Wired, and don't get any money from them or anything. I just like reading the site. It's usually got something interesting on it. So does the site listed below. Occasionally, anyway...

At the risk of getting two posts in one jam, I have to state how great the new CD from the band Dreamscape is. Their new CD is titled "Very" and is soooo reminiscent of I&W era DT, that it is scary. Maybe not quite as good, but so what. The only bad thing is that the CD does seem to start slowly as the first few songs are a bit too proggy for my taste (you know, the Enchant-type over fluffy keys, etc.). But thereafter, it really kicks in. And dont let the comparison to Enchant scare you off because when they get things in the proper gear, they have the "proper" level of heaviness. Buy it because you will love it !!

Jean. Thank you very much for the plug. I feel partially guilty about off topic postings on this list, but I work my ass off on this show and while we don't play much prog, I convinced Mike to let me throw on the Big Money at the end of the show. If you guys showed up and requested some more prog, he'd let me play some, as long as it isn't 25 hour long songs. The show is a lot of fun, and I would encourage everybody to check it out. Maybe, if it is popular enough, we can get some cool DT interviews going or something. It is on every Tuesday from 8 to 11 p.m. eastern time. At 11:16 PM 9/7/99 , you wrote:
