Come on, aren't you being hard on those big companies? Huge companies have a lot of people on the payroll, and you gotta pay them. (How is AOL/Time-Warner going to get themselves out of the huge hole they're in now that stock prices have dropped? They gotta raise prices, just you wait.) Plus they have to spend a lot of money to push the music that THEY want you to buy. That's not cheap. Why should the bands get any of that money? They're just insignificant cogs in the big machine. They can be replaced in a second by five boys hanging out on a backstreet...

Yeah, that was a pretty damn funny post. I sat in front of Petrucci the ENTIRE Feb 26th show, DIRECTLY in front of him, and saw him hit a wrong chord ONCE. (He was about to sing, I think it may have been "The Spirit Carries On", but I can't really remember the song), he was playing on octave, and he played a D# instead of a D, which he quickly changed, as Jordan looked at him, shaking his head and smiling. That was the ONLY mistake JP made the entire show. I didn't hear any from the rest of the band either. And I had NO problem hearing James in any way. I'd like to see you jump up on stage, grab JP's guitar and play at his volume, without even FEAR of making a mistake, nevermind making a mistake. And out of the countless times I've listened to Once In A Livetime, I haven't really heard any mistakes......care to point them out for me?

Ya know, I remember reading about a year and half or two years ago that Rod Stewart was releasing a new CD that basically filled up all available time on a CD (or most of it; 76 minutes or something like that). His record label wanted to charge extra for his CD since it was an "extended play" CD. Those greedy motherfuckers. It's cheaper now than it ever has been to record on CDs, but the prices just keep going up. I think I'll hold on to my mp3s, thank you.

Yeah, I knew that, but I just like the overall, aural SOUND better with Al. His solos kick so much ass. I love his bends - very expressive. And he can pick like a muthafucka, too.

Not so odd, I don't think. Jon's voice got on my nerves before Zak. I definitely prefer Zak to Jon, and for that matter, to all those no-talents on the TSO CD's. (Why the hell couldn't Zak have sung Beethoven on the new CD? He'd have been a hundredfold better than that guy - my LEAST favorite TSO singer!)

That's funny - I read the last digest and all it was was complaining about Napster, or complaining about complaining about Napster, and how much Metallica sucks. Best Buy often has TONS of stuff for $12 or $13.
Ever tried to buy a CLASSICAL new release? (No, not that crap on the Naxos label...) They're hardly ever on sale, and they regular price is usually AT LEAST $17. Deutsche Grammophon is the best label for vocal classical music, but I once paid $21 for ONE CD from them.

Ok, for anyone who has been alive in the past 6 months, we all know that John left Ibanez and is now with Ernie Ball Music Man. I've kind of been a pain in the ass to Rena, and eventually ended up getting an e-mail a "JP Rep", but I have some specs on the upcoming sig.
John Petrucci's Ernie Ball signature model is currently in the prototype stage. It is scheduled to debut at the Nashville NAMM show in July. Presently it is a basswood body with a maple neck and rose wood fretboard. The neck shape and body design are very sleek, fast and contoured. It has two DiMarzio humbuckers and a piezo system in the bridge with a separate output. The MM bridge has a tremolo and the tuners are locking.
So there ya go. I'll try to keep the jam updated with any other info I get. (As well as the Jemsite Forum)

I think you guys are looking at the wrong albums. While Home is pretty long (that's so far a total of around 18 minutes of straight 4/4 if you consider Through Her Eyes into Home right towards the ending), isn't MOST of WDADU in 4/4? Granted, Ytse Jam isn't, but most of the other songs are, if I'm not mistaken.

Sadly a lot of people think this way. They think that bands are like groups of superhuman people specifically selected at birth to participate in some sort of special life where they all get paid huge piles of cash. The majority of people assume that as kids, the band members must have been special kids who went to special schools and only other special kids ever came into contact with them. Im serious here. Even if people don't think that this is what they think, they do. Its weird because the media pushes this sort of superhuman view and people have this idea that if you are famous then your abilities come from some magical force, and that if you have ability you will be famous. Of course as fans of Dream Theater and as many of us are musicians ourselves, we know this not to be true in the slightest. That ability does not equal success and that you are famous if you right pop tunes, and you are not famous if you dont.... Sure DT probably has a bit of money now, but I suspect that they would still need to work damn hard to maintain their families and what not. They are also probably one of the only prog rock bands at the moment in this situation.... It makes me sad. :(

Check out Best Buy. they just inked a deal to finally build 3 stores in new Orleans. They are cheap, adn they have a shitload of stuff. A friend of mine found a Machine Head import single there for 10 bucks.
On the topic of operation Mindcrime, I sort of got by reading the lyrics, livecrime and Video Mindcrime helped out a lot. One album I can't get is Wake of Magellan. I like DWD a lot, the story is a bit weak. everyone always says how great of OM is storywise:
Guy gets brainwashed, gets high, kills people, finds out whos controllinh him, goes after him, his prostitute turned nun kills herself, bad guy gets away scott free etc etc.
Or you have SFAM: Average guy everyone can relate too has reoccurring dreams about a past life so he goes to regression theapy, finds out about Victoria they love and the struggles, he leaves wanting to expose the truth when the bad man who ruined evryone in the past comes back in the form of a different man to keep the truth hidden....

Hey, buddy, bite me. Who are you to say the people in here or the people who go to DT shows are nerds? If you look right above your post, there were some people talking about Savatage. We've had some Queensryche topics in here. But, this is called the YTSEJAM!!!! The whole purpose of this jam is to talk about DT. DT is my favorite band, as well as everyone who subscribes to this list, but that don't mean we are snobs. I don't think Black Sabbath sucks because Tony Iommi doesn't have the chops that John Petrucci has.
