hey hey hey! this is my first post on the jam, so i hope i do it right. :)
one of my favorite moments in a DT song is the guitar solo in Fatal tragedy.
it sounds like some kind of huge monster with red eyes has just been
disturbed and is now- well, really pissed off. (perhaps my descriptive
abilities are lacking? i think so.) this is, of course, only one of the
INFINATELY many great parts of a DT song created by the great lord petrucci.
    BTW, DREAM THEATER RULES!!!!!!

its about 1 hr remaing for HOB cybercast,
i have every thing ready,i`ll go to my isp with my vcr and my 16megs TNT
w/Tv out (maybe i`ll borrow my cousins Voodoo 3000 for the best TV out)

for now all i need to record it,the Username and Password
i cant get my own pass because i dont have any credit cards,so this is
    the point
i guess once you paid and get your pass from HOB,you can watch it over

Im asking for people who registered and get the pass,
if you`d give your pass at least for the last 2hrs,i can record the
whole show and can get copies for you

    Thanks !

    Hi,
If any of you enjoy the music of Arena, I just got a promo of their new cd,
"Immortal?", the other day. The band has a new singer and bass player and
they do a great job. For those of you who thought "The Visitor" was great,
wait to you hear the new one!! It's a great one, and you can read up on it
    on two of my websites:

And don't forget my Dream Theater site!!

For everyone who likes DT, you should really check out Aghora. I think
they're from Florida. They're kind of a progressive metal, almost kind of a
DT edge to them. And I bought their new album, and it blew me away. If
anyone reads metal-rules.com, they reviewed their 1998 demo, and there's an
mp3 of one of the songs there. They have a female lead singer, who is
absolutely amazing, kinda eerie sounding essence to it. But they have some
good mp3s up on their page (www.aghora.org I think), and they're completely
DIY. Which brings me to another point, if anyone here is a fan and has any
live recordings of them, pass them along.

Yeah, I think he knew all along. He never told any of the people that
they were dead, he just ran from them or helped them. Also, if you watch
the part where Malcolm comes to visit the kid at his house, the kid's
mother never acknowledges that Malcolm is there. (I didn't realize that
until I knew he was dead.) So Malcolm more than likely knew, but kept it
    to himself.

The kid DOES know that he was dead the whole time. "how often do you see
them?" and he answers "ALL the time." Also, he notices that no one else is
talking to him, he also knows his mom knows nothing about the psychiatrist,
otherwise they would have talked about it. it's just assumed he knows, and i
thought that was pretty obvious and inarguable, but oh well.

By the way, i'm sure you've all already discussed it, but i love
transatlantic. it's such a fun album that really cheers you up. Lots of
interesting twists, sounds pretty spock's beard-ish, but i love it
regardless. The first song with a HUGE track is definitely worth it and i'm
always disappointed when it ends cause it feels like i haven't had my fill.
Who's that last track a cover of? ("In held (twas) in I") just save jam
space and answer me privately. thanks.

Well, I must say that what I saw of the broadband version of this
broadcast kicked ass! I say "what I saw of" because in the middle of it
the whole connection just sporadically started dropping out! I am going
to try recording the show again at a later time, when there aren't so many
people trying to watch it. This is definitely a must-have boot to have,
so I plan on getting the whole thing recorded dammit! :)

The only problem is that, recording directly to my hard drive, there seem
to be lots of blips and coughs that shouldn't be there. Does anybody have
any advice on making this go away, short of actually editing them out?
    Thanks.

Well, after quite an annoying night of trying to order the hi-speed stream, then watching the 56k free feed go down after the first showing, etc., I was finally able to watch a higher-quality version thanks to a kind person in #mikechat. :)

I kinda wanted to see if me and Dave Leon were visible in the video, there were a few times when the camera was kinda pointed at us.... Sure enough, after Jordan's jaw-dropping solo, the cameraman caught us bowing toward Jordan and yelling "We're not worthy!!" I'm in the foreground, Dave L. is to my left.

I'm the only guy in the front row wearing an old red YtseCon II era Ytsejam shirt (made by Trey Allen, who was AT the Orlando show), so if you see a splotch of red with white lettering, that's me.

Toward the end of the "soft" part of "Peruvian Skies," for some reason the camera guy got a close-up of me (I think it was because I was singing along, but so was everyone else). I played it cool during the show, didn't turn and LOOK at the camera, but I thought the red light had been on...and it was. Pretty eerie to see yourself on the screen like that.... I had to pay an extra $30 to get right there in the front row, but for THAT show, it happened to be worth it. :)

Frightening thought: all the people who sent their credit-card info to HoB to order the show, whether you were successful or not, did it through an unsecured server. LAME, HoB.....

Hey people!!! This happens to be way off topic, but this is the only mailing list I'm in, so I want to ask you the following question: Does the kid in the movie The Sixth Sense ever find out that Malcolm (the psychiatrist) was actually dead? I happen to think that the kid NEVER finds out that he was dead, but other people think that he did know. Any opinions? If you don't think this topic is appropriate for the jam, you can email me privately. Thanks. >>>

The kid knew Malcom was a ghost the whole time. That's why he said, "I know how you can talk to your wife...if you talk to her in her sleep, she'll listen but won't even know it," or whatever.

I have to disagree, yes, LTE can be considered overplaying, but it was supossed to be like that! An all out outlet for the guys to go nuts. The intro to OLT is supposed to be winding down from TDOE, and every instrument goes at it simple, restrained, perfect, but then Jordan has to go on and wank, as if he just *had* to get this quick "run" in there somewhere. I just see it as this: imagine the end of "Eve" , slow, simple, beautiful, imagine if instead of playing the simple melody JP plays at the end, he decided he had to end it with a fast flurry of notes, and THEN resolve the solo , with the last notes that we hear in the recording. Maybe it would sound cool, but it sounds MUCH better with the simple approach. I think JR just needs to lay back. We all know his technical abilities are far beyond excellent and virtuosic, its his taste (in what to play when to play it) , or in my case , lack thereof, that turns me off. Maybe he just wants to prove himself to the fans...i dont know..

For the most part, I agree with you. Jordan happens to be my least favorite DT key guy so far, but I think that part in OLT fits VERY well. In the song, Julian and Victoria are lying there, dying together. There's gotta be a LOT goin' through their minds at that point. The keyboard solo captures that very well, IMO, because it's just a barrage of note which DO make sense, but don't really have a specific melodic motif. That's the way I see it anyway.

And I agree with you about how LTE was SUPPOSED to be about overplaying and going nuts. I can only listen to it every few months. The thing that bugs me most about LTE is that there are some really cool compositions on there, that could have been refined into kickass DT songs, but instead were used just as vamps to shred over. But they cand do whatever they want with their music.

And about the Prog Rap thing, I saw a jamband called Gruvus Malt a coupla months ago playing rap in 11/8, with a trombone player and a cellist, and making it sound really GOOD. There's a lot of untapped potential in rap music, IMO.

Hi! Just got home from an interesting trip to Copenhagen...It all started thursday march 30th right after school(2pm). I and four of my friends squeezed into my little old volvo and we were ready to get blown away that same night. We had 220 km to go before we arrived in Copenhagen and just about halfway (after 120km) I found out that i had forgotten our tickets! My friends were really cool about it, but we still had to go all the way back to get them. Spocks Beard started playing at 8pm, but we didn't get there before 9pm, right in the break between SB and DT. Although i would love to have heard SB, i was relieved to find that i had made it to the DT show. The place was packed(about 1500 people). I was lucky to find a good spot on the baclony where i could see both JR, JM, MP, JLB and most of JP. The show itself was great! Met2 went off perfectly. The crowd was wild and OFB seemed to enjoy themselves. BUT right after JM's solo the sound disappeared from the guitar and the keyboard. MP knew what to do: he tossed himself into a spontaneous drum solo for a couple of minutes until the power came back. Then we got JM's solo again(woohooo!!!) and they played on. Just like so many others i would prefer to hear fewer full length songs in stead of more medleys. I must say that JLB really killed any doubts that i may have had about his voice. BTW the lightshow and improved video stuff were great as well.

Simon Krogh -still a bit giddy after that experience

    Hi there!

There will unfortunately be no PROGORAMA show tonite, as planned. We will however (probably) be DJ-ing this Thursday, at Pub Anchor, in Stockholm. The great Swedish psychedelic bands Qoph and Abramis Brama are playing.

But here's some of the action you can expect next time around. Neal & Al Morse from Spock's Beard in a country & western mode:

    Enjoy!

PROGORAMA will air the Spock's Beard special on the 16th of April instead, 01:00 at night, Studentradion, 95.3 MHz FM, Stockholm, Sweden.

Visit the PROGORAMA home page at http://www.progorama.web.com for MP3's of King Crimson live '72, and great Captain Beyond covers from Qoph and Abramis Brama.

    Hi!

Anyone know the origin of the Charlie-sung songs on Live & Alive, Vol 2 bootleg?? I have it on a cassette, it's not in the tourography on the Lines In The Sand web site. It's not the same as Consciously Unreal.

And anyone knows which show on the DT / DP / ELP tour was recorded and aired on radio? I have an MP3 bootleg of this, that I once thought was the Hampton Beach one, but it's not.

Oh, it's not that. He doesn't need to prove anything. I remember reading an article about him (sorry, can't remember where) which also had a brief interview, he was asked about what bands influenced him. When talking about ELP, his reply came out like this: " Yeah, of course they are great players, but I just don't get it how slow they can sometimes play. I could never play that slow..."

So that's what it is, he's damned to play fast, he can't do anything about it ;)

I remember that, but I remember seeing it about Rick Wright. "No offense to Rick, but, I don't know how he gets his hands to move that slow". Sometimes I wish he would do some slow moody stuff.
