Go see this part of the tour. Please.

Actually, I'm just frothing at the mouth about the
prospect of Jordan playing on LTL and ACoS. *PLEASE* tell
me that someone's going to be booting this? I'm hoping to
see 'em in Leeds and Bristol, but there's no guarantee
that they'll play those two songs.

Speaking of LTL...that's my favourite keys/guitar part at
the end; but even though we always consider it to be a
part of their signature sound, has anyone else noticed
that they don't do them very often anymore? Apart from the
main riff in LItS, they haven't used the guitar-synth
thing since a couple of places on Awake, and some LTE
stuff. Which is a shame, because I love it when they do
    that!

    *** POSSIBLE SPOILERS ***

I haven't seen to much here about this leg of the tour but much has been reported on Mike's message board. What can I say it was awesome, incredible, stupendous, all of the superlatives you could come up with! The whole show was great starting with hangin out with jammers on the line and then with Spock's Beard. I can't believe I'm actually saying that I enjoyed their show more than I did the Dixie Dregs (although I've seen the Dregs regularly since '80 and it was my first for SB). The DT set list was excellent and any complaints would be minor nits. Performance (virtuosity) was definitely the best I have seen of the four shows I've been to. I won't go on anymore about these things since I am in agreement with all of the positive reviews which been reported to date but I'd like to talk about the show from some other angles.

First - I finally got to meet some of the DC jammers and must say you guys and gals were great to hang with. Hi to Ryan, Coldfire, KEZ, Jeff, WhoFooledU, Scott (Division) and Kim. Sorry if there are others I missed. We were there fairly early and secured an excellent spot dead center on the balcony. The sound was very good, in fact, the best I've heard so far. I could even hear JM's tone never mind the notes he was playing! Jordan could have been louder at times and as always JP could've been reeled in a bit (this coming from a guitar player!). Mike's bass drums were finally not overpowering everything.

Spock's Beard - SB had some feedback problems at times but this must have been minor compared to what I've heard from the Philly show. I thought they were great. They were clearly enjoying themselves and I felt that their vibe translated directly to me (more on this for DT). As soon as they finished I went down and bought the remaining 3 studio discs that I didn't own.

DT - Those who saw me come into the place no that I was revved up BIG TIME. I don't know what it was but I had such a good vibe that night, a feeling I don't think I've had since I was a teen going to my first few Rush concerts. When OFB hit the stage the place was smokin, it was electric! I was praying that the railing would hold up against my head bangin and fist pumping and I didn't end up in a broken heap of bones on the floor below (although I would have stayed there like that 'til the end anyway!). They were definitely on! The stage looked so pristine especially Jordan with his one keyboard, they're just such pros about every last detail, everything just seemed right. I could feel the vibe from everyone around me, we all seemed to be in our own - yet the same - 'happy place.'

Then... When the band took it down a notch (maybe during AD), the whole place seemed to let down and IMO never quite got it back. At times I looked down at the floor and saw everyone just standing around. I couldn't tell if the band was energizing the crowd or the crowd wasn't feeling the same vibe from the band anymore. It was really weird. Don't get me wrong JM was a animated as ever, JP was doin the head/hair thing and KJL was looking like he was right were he belonged but the stage presence energy level seemed to go down a few notches. I couldn't help but feel I was seeing a band that's going through the motions a bit (I guess by the end of a long tour it's hard to 'bring it' every night).

The music was powerful though. It's something I don't feel when I listen to SFaM at home (and I do feel it from the IaW and Awake CDs). Clearly, SFaM is meant to be heard live! tSCO is one of my least favorite songs on the disc yet, live, I felt as though I was hearing an anthem of sorts - weird. (I thought the soaring bird on the video monitors was pushing the 'cheese-o-meter' reading a little high though.) I got a little lost during the NM/CiaW thing. But right after, before I knew what just happened Acid Rain was mind boggling!

JPs Solo - Some have referred to JP commandeering of the stage as a wank 'fest (which clearly it IS!) but I have to say it was....elevating, no...spiritual, no... well you get the idea! I WAS - in the Gloaming! MY GOD, John you transcend the rock guitar player. There is no other who IMO combines technical virtuosity with melodic, emotive, musicality! Am I gushing? Yeah Baby!

Closing - LtL was incredible but sad, I knew the end was near. One of Scott's friends was behind me saying "I don't want this show to end!" I thought the same thing, 'wow has it been 2 hrs already?' "What will the encore be?" Ryan guessed and I said no way that's TOO long they've already done 2+ hrs. He said " yeah but, this is Dream Theater!"

    Boy, was he ever right!

    I-Man

P.S. Sorry for such a long post, but I got going and couldn't stop :-)

If you weren't sure whether or not you were going to see them again this year or debating whether or not to make a long drive to get there, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT NOT GOING TO THIS SHOW! You won't regret it, I swear!

LEGEND III is tentatively set for release in December of this year. SAVIOUR MACHINE wishes to extend their appreciation for your interest and patience. The project is a massive undertaking, which spans over 2 ½ hours of music, 36 songs and 2 CD's. The production has been in the works for over 2 years and expected to be completed in the later part of this year. We encourage you to continue to check for status updates on the production at SaviourMachine.com. *---------*

I thought this was never going to be completed, but like wow, it's gonna be a 2CD set. :D They also mentioned something about plans to release a limited edition Live in Deutschland DVD, too... Hmmmm.... :D -- KorgX3 will probably be shelling out some almighty money for that.

    Greetings ye 'jamanoids....

Okay, so the Steve Morse Band / Dixie Dregs show last night rocked, pure and simple. Not too difficult to guess, considering the caliber of musical talent that was onstage.

SMB set: Van Romaine on drums, Dave LaRue on bass, and Steve. Van's drum kit was set up alongside Rod Morgenstein's. Steve was playing with a cast on his left hand since he had broken his wrist a few weeks ago in a skateboard mishap. You sure as hell couldn't tell it from his playing -- spot-on and fluid as hell, just like always. Very high-energy set that included (off the top of my head) StressFest, Rising Power, the Dregs song Calcutta, Good to Go, Sleaze Factor, and of course Highland Wedding. Wonderful stuff.

In between sets they didn't tear down Van's kit. I wondered about that, but found out why soon. More on that in a bit.

Dixie Dregs set: Steve and Dave again, with T Lavitz on keyboards, Jerry Goodman on violin, and the incomparable Rod Morgenstein on drums. Another high-energy set (I'm not even going to try and recall most of the songs), but all five of them looked like they were having an absolute blast. It's almost unfair to see such quality music being played so effortlessly.

Five or six songs in, Rod left his kit, stood at T Lavitz's second set of keyboards, and played a piano/keyboard duet with T. "Lavitz / Morgenstein Project!" I yelled, and got a smirk from Rod in return. Rod is actually quite good on keyboards.

Toward the end of the set they played a smoking version of Cruise Control. Shortly after that Dave, Steve and Jerry disappeared off the stage -- and Van Romaine reappeared, settling back at his kit and proceeding to play a drum duet / duel with Rod. VERY interesting stuff.

When that was over, the other three came back on. Van stayed at his kit, so for the remainder of the set we had two drummers. Of course, an Atlanta Dregs show wouldn't be complete without Allan Sloane, so he came on for one or two songs while Jerry stood off to the side and watched. Then Jerry came back and all seven of them played for a bit more before leaving.

The encore: Moedown / Odyssey, again with all seven of them onstage. Musical onslaught!

My night was complete when Rod handed me one of the sticks he'd been using all evening. (Being in the front row has its advantages sometimes, hehe). I hung around afterwards and met all of the guys except Rod, who apparently vanished shortly after the show ended. All of them were very friendly and approachable and several of them thanked me for coming to the show (note: this is business as usual for Steve, Van and Dave, whom I've met several times now; they're ALWAYS friendly).

Bottom line: If you're in one of the few towns this tour is visiting, you MUST GO. You *will* enjoy yourself. These aren't the droids you're looking for. Er....

    cheers, Phil

Actually, though it's not a prog band, there's a GReAT version of Pachelbel's Canon done by a NH rock band called Thanks to Gravity. It's on their Slingshot album, and it's AWESOME - they added lyrics to it, too. If you can get a hold of this, I think you'd really like it; it's a great twist on an old favorite.

    Greetings fellow Jamsters,

I'm arranging a pre-show meeting at the Old Chicago Pizzeria located just around the corner from The Quest at 508 First Ave. N. Since the Quest's doors open at 5:30 PM and the show is GA, we better meet early for a late lunch and get to the venue by 3:00 - 3:30 at the latest. I'm thinking 1:00 - 1:30... Old Chicago will have no problem accommodating our group, it's close, and those under 21 will not be turned away. Finding us should be no trouble... Just look for the DT wear!

I'm sending a copy to the Jam for those of you that have yet to contact me privately. I would like to hear from all of those that plan on attending the pre-show meeting. Please include the total amount of people in your group so I can assure group seating for all. I'd like to have the numbers before Friday. Mail me A.S.A.P. mailto:al@isd.net

BTW, it looks like the weather will be nice the afternoon of the show. Standing in line should be a pleasant as standing in line can get.. :-/ If it looks like there is going to be a change in the weather, I'll e-mail those of you traveling from afar so you can dress accordingly.
