Is the Maritime Hall show 21+? If not, I may go, since all 3 of the
raggin fraggin SoCal shows are 21+. I'm planning a trip to SF to visit
some friends, and I could definitely plan my trip around a DT show,
since I haven't seem them since Christmas 98.

Ibanez JPM's weren't even being produced for about the 2nd half of 99'. Those
P4's sold like shit for $10 a bowl....
As a matter of fact, Ibanez produced MORE P2's to boost sales.
For die-hard Ibanez fans, e-mail rlharris1@home.com to subsribe to his
mailing list. He's an Ibanez broker/seller/trader, (HUGE JS fan...you should
see his collection, you'll puke....nevermind walk through his home...). He
had the VERY LAST JPM's Ibanez sent out. (8 P4's and 8 P2's). He currently
has a *NEW* P4 for $850-however, UPS banged it, and there's a crack on the
top part of the body. (Which is really nothing big.....).

Go to him before making any Ibanez purchases. GUARUNTEED to get a lower price.

Ibanez has discontinued the JPM line. It is done, over, buh bye, gone, see

I always find it funny how people bitch like this and then quote, without
bothering to censor the spoilers, the entire offending message. Then
again, I generally find those "When Animals Attack" specials funny, so...

    Dominic Kallas mentioned Pach's canon:

    >If you guys like arpeggios, I'd suggest taking a listen to "Canon in D" by
    >Pachelbel. It's a really nifty piece that I'd love to have a
    >prog-instrumental rock band cover...

Variations on that canon riff are used, though perhaps without all the
flourishes and increasing dynamics of the original, in all sorts of rock
songs. It's a very emotive chord pattern and it is used to great effect in
all manner of power ballads, straight-ahead rockers, you name it. Off the
top of my head, U2's "With Or Without You" -- it's not exact, but the
    resemblance is definitely there. Others?

Still got 3 Maiden/QR/Halford tickets to the Camden show this Saturday for
sale, now with a slashed budget price:

Last item of bidness, I just finished watching a mighty interesting
documentary by the Hughes Bros., "American Pimp". Give it a watch if you
get a chance. It's entertaining, and you might even learn something. Like
what to do if one of your bitches gets out of line...

    Hi all,

I just saw the DT concert in Philly last Friday and it ROCKED. It rocked
even more b/c I managed to sneak my new MiniDisc recorder in and get a
decent boot of the show (in mono). I may or may not distribute it in
mp3 format given that there are much better boots out there from the main
    M2K tour. I used a Sharp MD-MT15 recorder with a Sony ECM-T6 mono
condenser mic (powered by a small lithium battery), and I want to get a
better stereo mic setup for future DT concerts and a quickly approaching
    In Flames concert.

My question is, can I get a decent rig that is 1) stereo, 2) impervious to
*ridiculously* loud inputs (like a Swedish Melodic Death Metal
concert) and 3) relatively cheap, say about $100? I'd like to avoid
getting one of those separate 9V battery modules even tho they solve issue
#2, because they are damn expensive and not very stealthy. Ideally, I'd
like something like I have now, except in a stereo version. My current
mic is small, held up great against the blasting of the Electric Factory's
house amps (probably due to the battery) and was cheap- only
$15! Can I record a metal concert without a battery module and
realistically expect to avoid distortion? Anyone have a good setup
that they'd like to recommend, even if it isn't exactly what I'm looking
for? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks a lot!
    Evan

well anyway, i attended wacken open air 2000, and watched stratovarius,
rhapsody, nightwish, iced earth, royal hunt, labyrinth, zakk wylde's black
label society... what can i say? all the concerts was superb!

timo koltiperto, the singer in strato, burned his hand in the pyroeffects,
but got a bandage and continued the show. and jens, our fellow jammer, was
really funny just by the way he was acting (either standing
talking/drinking beer with the other guys or just making gestures like
timo:)) jens, if you read this, you rule!:)

and nightwish.. .ah.. nightwish was magnificent! i think this was the
greatest concert for me... the ywere really great live... and their
setlist (as well as strato's and rhapsody's was perfect!)

It would be nice to hear some expert's comment on this. I could

    Message-ID: <200008081433.HAA10172@fugazi.torchsong.com>

    Hey Jammers -

I'm surprised nobody's posted yet about the spectacle that was Iron Maiden/Queensryche/Halford at MSG this past Saturday night. To summarize: un-fucking-believable! :-)

IMO, this is going to go down for me as one of the most intense and incredible shows I've ever seen. The thought that a band like Maiden can sell out MSG in 2 hours in this day and age is still mind-blowing to me. They didn't disappoint the rabid crowd, either.

Halford started things off by playing a few tunes from his new album. They sounded to me much like something you'd have heard on one of his Fight albums. Pretty straight forward, not spectacular, but solid. I think he even mixed in a Fight song (Into The Pit? Something like that anyway...) into the set. But, it was when they busted into The Hellion & Electric Eye when all hell broke loose. :-) It didn't let up either... Halford followed that up with 3 other Priest tunes in succession to close his set out: Riding On The Wind, Breaking The Law, & Tyrant! Fucking amazing! The crowd was in a froth by now, and it was only just beginning...

Queensryche (should have been DT!!! but anyway...) followed with an impressive set and received a warm reception, but it was tough to follow Halford's set. The Ryche were certainly more enjoyable to me than they were in Boston on the Q2K tour. The band was tight, seemed to be enjoying themselves, and Tate sounded great. The setlist: Intro, Revolution Calling, Empire, Falling Down, Speak, Damaged, Walk In the Shadows, QUEEN OF THE REICH!!!, Take Hold Of The Flame, Eyes Of a Stranger. A very solid set indeed, obviously highlighted by the return of QOTR for the first time in YEARS. Tate sang it impressively, even hitting the high notes in the chorus. Scotty Rock blistered behind the kit during this song throwing in fills all over the place despite the fact I don't think he used the double bass at all during it.

But Maiden blew the roof off the joint. Amazing energy, amazing light show, amazing theatrics, amazing playing... oh yeah, and Eddie too. :-) The set was really, really good with most of the new album being played. Many of the new songs came to life in a concert setting and sounded killer live. "Sign Of The Cross" and "The Clansman" were jawdropping in concert... Blaze who?? Bruce was a lunatic pumping the crowd up every chance he got. You could tell the band was fired up feeding off the crowd energy, and vice versa.

The only bummers for me... I had to leave after the first Maiden encore to catch a train back home. As I left the arena I heard the first few notes of my favorite Maiden song "Hallowed Be Thy Name" (Grrr..) Also, I wish the band would have pulled a few more old gems out to play. With the exception of Sign Of the Cross and Clansman, the older song selection was pretty predictable: Trooper, Wrathchild, 2 Minutes, Number Of The Beast, Iron Maiden, etc. But all in all, it was an amazing concert that you absolutely DON'T want to miss if it comes your way.

    Up The Fucking Irons!!!

    Laterz... Matt T.

It looked like he used 2 guitars both EB/MM. Blue 6-string, red/maroon
7-string. I think he probably has two of each (at least) for different
tunings. I wasn't in front so I didn't get a real good look. They sounded
    amazing!

Did anyone get a peek at the tremolo? Was it a floating trem (new) or the
pitch lowering only type that's standard for MM?

at least not one of mine; i'm out, cashed, spent. Did you try pat
griffen? I don't know if he still sells his, but especially now that the
old(good) logo is back, it'd be a damn fine shirt to own. I wear mine
all the time. it rocks. It gets up with the diggy.

I'm noticing a trend in the reviews. I have yet to
see a bad DT show, but I've seen a couple off-nights.
This show (DC 8/5) was, bar none, the best that I've
seen. Everyone was in top form, and the setlist
    kicked mucho ass.

    Apology accepted (Captain Needa).....

I wore my Ytsejam T-shirt and no one said hi.
Allright...it was an older model (the one that has
Dream Theater and "Let The Light Surround You" in
glow-in-the-dark letters on the back with the small
Majesty logo on the front)...so maybe some didn't
recognize it....but I would have thought someone there
    would.....oh well....maybe next show.

I can't speak for everyone that was on the floor
level, but I was just getting tired. Not
sleepy....but towards the end to the show I've been
standing for 5+ hours, yelling, screaming, being an
attentinve audient, and I just needed a break somehow.
DT's playing is actually what kept me on my feet,
cheering and all that. After the show, I just sat in
my car for 20 minutes getting my energy back.

    Yo....spoiler space, man! Spoiler space!!

I think a quote from James LaBrie is appropriate here
(Borrowed, without permission, from Kurt Hampton's
    sig):

    "Shut the f*ck up.
Don't make come down there and kick your f*cking ass"
    -James Labrie 4/16/97

But then again, you've already taken care of that :-)

Excuse me? Have you SEEN the smoldering ruin that used to be MSG lately?
Much as I love DT, there was NO WAY I was passing on a chance to see the
first date of Maiden's US tour. Where else can you hear that many people
singing along to all of the songs, whilst being pummeled at a level I
    haven't seen in 12 years?

My suggestion is that YOU go see Maiden in Philly next weekend. :)

Oh, and I'm going to DT on the 30th, anyway - remember, I'm looking for ANY
excuse to be in NYC at this point. Besides, I'm still hoping they play
"Scarred" at that show (yeah, right!)

What I meant to say here is, "I couldn't tell if the band was no longer
    being energized by the audience..."

At any rate I know that I was pumped and enjoyed the show immensely. I don't
particularly care for a bunch of late 30 something band members runnin
around on stage acting like fools anyway. A great musical performance is all
the "show" I need and I got more than my money's worth that!

Yeah, that's pretty understandable. I had some beers and was all happy so I
guess I had some extra energy. I will admit that during the intermission I
sat on the floor in front of the railing for a while to take a load off :-)

Um, shouldn't the subject be "New Setlist (SPOILERS)"
if you are going to mention two songs that DT played?
    Just a thought.

Hey people. Just a bit of info. I ordered the Transatlantic limited
edition from amazon.com and after a few weeks they told me they couldn't
get it. I remember someone else was looking for it too, so I thought
I'd mention that I ordered it from Laser's Edge, and I had it in less
than a week, it was like 20 bucks plus 2 for shipping. Before I ordered
it, I emailed asking if they had it in stock, and apparently they have
plenty of them left, so if anyone still needs it they can find it there.

Also, I live in Miami, but I will be in San Francisco for the Aug. 16
show at Maritime Hall...any SF jammers have any comments about the
venue, out of curiosity? I'm stoked to see Spock's Beard too, has
anyone heard the new album? It's really good, I think I dig it more
than Day for Night...anyway if you have any comments please email me.
    Later...

    Bobby
