<< Honestly, I was actually very disappointed with the new album. Of course,
I
also thought, by and large, that HTML was pretty weak. (IMO) After several
listens, I grew to like a couple of the tunes off HTMAP, and I think it will
take repeated listens to start digging the new one as well. IMO, there's
just nothing memorable to take away from "if_then_else". I was pumped when
I
heard that they planned to get heavier with the new album, and I hoped it
would sound something like "Mandylion" (awesome) or "Nighttime Birds"
(god-like). It just isn't doing anything for me. And don't even get me
started about Anneke's new haircut... :-)
On a brighter note, I agree with you Carlos that the new Fates is awesome.
Another in the long line of solid FW albums. I am very pleased. And I also
think the new In Flames is killer, as well. One of their best, to be sure.
'Nuff for now. Laterz... Matt T.

Damn, I'm the complete opposite. I didn't really care too much for the new
Fates CD. I think it sounds a bit like a combination of "A Pleasant Shade of
Grey" and "Inside Out."
It was a bit monotonous at times and the songs sorta drug on. And I think
that this is one album with nothing very memorable on it. Except for that
one drum lick in that song I can't remember the name of.
The new Gathering I thought was really cool though. I really like her
melodies. And a lot of people say how they don't like the music of the
Gathering but they like the vocals. I think the music is quite creative,
utilizing unique layers of guitars, keys, and a combination of nontraditional
instruments in metal. The only song on there I didn't like was "Beautiful
War." Didn't like the trombone and French horn use.
I like her lyrics too.
Each Gathering CD has been a bit different and daring in its on way so that's
cool.
And this is the second post I've seen where someone has been harping on her
cut hair. I hope everyone is just sarcastically acting like a bunch of
N'Sync crazed teens and it really doesn't matter to them.

Damn, the Korg doesn't have an arpegiation option? That's weird. I got the
Kurzweil K2500S and it's easily applied on all presets and such. There is
probably a way that you can make your own type of arpegiation though.
If it isn't discussed in your owners manual talk to your customer service rep
about it, i'm sure they know a way since keyboard arpegiation is a commonly
used feature.

Kurtzweil makes a ribbon (like the one on the K2500) that plugs into a
synth's MIDI in. It lets you control different parameters on the synth with
the ribbon, and it also has an arpegiator on it. It's really cool if you
have a K2000 or K2VX and want to be able to take full advantage of all the
K2500 patches that got handed down.
The bad news is that it's around $600. For a couple hundred more you can
get a Korg N5EX which has an arpegiator on it.
Hope this helps,
Kevin Hammer

I guess most of the jammers are cool about this sort of thing but I wanted
to humbly ask that any posts concerning setlists be prominently identified
so those of us who want to be surprised can skip them. I saw DT in San
Fran last Feb. and that was the first time I saw them in my life, but it
was a tad anticlimatic since most of the show was SFAM and I knew the
setlist beforehand. The show coming up on the 16th is going to be the
first time I get to see a "real" Dream Theater concert with all of the
instrumental and improvisational craziness and I want it to be a total
surprise.
Thanks

Now, can I ask a stupid question? :D
What the hell does an arpeggiator do? hehehehe. I know what an arpeggio
is, so I'm curious to know what the hell the arpeggiator does an how it
works. Just a lazy man's toy? :)

Hey all!
KCTS is rebroadcasting the Yes show from the Ladder Tour that they did at the House of Blues in San Fransisco. I already caught it last month. I thought some of you might be interested, even though the whole concert is available at hob.com. It's on Saturday August 05 at 11 pm. I believe KCTS is PBS in Washington State.

Hey all!
I don't have anything to report about this show, since I wasn't there, but there's a guy who saw the show and was posting about it on Mike Portnoy's site. Without spoiling it for some, all I will say is the set is UNBELIEVABLE!!! I sure hope they continue to do this kinda of show on the rest of this tour (with some variations)! You guys going to the New Yawk gig should be in for a very serious treat!! Hopefully those of us attending the other shows will also be in for a treat as well! :)
Anyway, for those of you curious folk, here's the URL: http://www.mikeportnoy.com/ubb/NonCGI/Forum2/HTML/008279.html

ok, What the fuck happend to Spock's beard? They got Hellen Keller to run the sound booth. My God, the bass was in audible for half their set, the one keyboard was cranked, the trebles were disgustingly high. Those poor guys...they had to stop after their first song and do a sound check. they got a sitty deal. killed the crowd, not like that many people were into them in the first place. At one point the guitar player had to play a lick and his guitar wasn't on...so he said "i need my guitar, this part's kind of important" so they had to skip that part of the song and finish it out. Good ole mike portnoy came out with his kiss mask on and played a little with Spock's Beer. DT just kicked ass all over the place. I'm not going to get into details...they played for like 2.5 hours, new video stuff on the monitors, only played a select few songs from met. 2. they brought out the "old shit" as JL called it, he was solid tonight. Very heavy show, not too much of the DT light. Encore was amazing! The Ear-ache Carries On

I saw DT in Philadelphia last night, and let me tell you it was the BEST concert I have seen yet... they do a 2.5 hour set (which included "Another Day"), and then come back and do a half hour encore consisting of...wait til you hear this... A CHANGE OF SEASONS IN ITS ENTIRETY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They were incredible... Here was the set list... not sure if the order is right, tho..
(opener) Metropolis 1 Overture 1928 Strange Deja Vu The Mirror Let me Breathe New Millenium/Caught in a Web Another Day Erotomania Voices Home The Spirit Carries On Learning to Live
A Change of Seasons
It was unbelieveable!!!!! I'm gonna do a review today... I'll let y'all know when it's up!!

Greetings ye 'jamanoids....
As those of you in the Atlanta area may know, the Steve Morse Band and the Dixie Dregs are playing Sunday night at the Variety Playhouse. If any 'jammers besides me are going, look for me in the front row. Long reddish hair, goatee and mustache, and a DT Metropolis 2000 tour shirt.
cheers, Phil
