Well, I just got mine today in the mail and this idea is not pure genius, it
is pure CRAP !! I have been buying Jap imports since they were those shiny
black frisbee-like discs called records. How is one supposed to know that I
am going to have to suffer through Japanese lyrics ?? And, in case you dont
know, Japanese lyrics all sound like "ooooo-yeeee-ya-ya-neee". YUCKO !!
This blows !!

Yes, it's still on. The problem is that I've been really really busy
lately. I was planning to send a post, explaining what's going
on... oh, fuck it, I'll just explain it now.
OK, a very close friend of mine got married this past weekend, and her
husband's bachelor party was the weekend before. So, two weekends
shot right there. (I really only have weekends available to me these
days, between 8 hours of work, 2 hours of commute, 3 nights of band
rehearsal, 1 night of fire house, you understand.) Then, on top of
everything else, my best friend went and got his stupid ass dumped by
his girlfriend of some 2.5 years, so I've essentially been on suicide
watch the past few days, which hasn't left any time for anything
(including sleep). (He's better now; I'm exhausted. Thanks for
asking.)
OK, so on top of all that, I'm starting a new job in about three
weeks. (No, really, this is good news concerning the Tape Trade.)
I'm going to be a full-time faculty member at my local community
college (so all you western LI jammers, sign up for CS now!), which
means mondo free time.
So, essentially, everything gets pushed back a month or two. Which is
good, anyway, because then all the college jammers will be back at
college, and they can participate as well, rather than trying to fit
this in with packing up the van for the new semester.
Sit tight, and thanks for being patient. (Those of you who have a
harder time being patient can stuff it up your dumper. Have a nice
day. :)
> Thats basically all I have to say.
Well, thanks for asking. I'll update the page, and send something
official RSN.

OK, OK, that's enough.

Damn, Graham, how are we supposed to tell? I think you're joking about screwing sheep, but no, that's real. Then I think you're serious about SymX, and it's a joke. You bug me.

We should start a contest. Guess when Skadz will reply to e-mail message X and win a prize. :)

Yeah. Five digests from now and it'll be back to "Nah, just wicked skimming." :)
Hey, Skadz, I just heard an ad on the radio today. Southwest Airlines, 49 bucks, Islip to Providence. You better be here for the Roseland show.

Any of the ytse-veterans on this list remember the old tapes of demos from Chaos Theory? I'm hoping someone here could help me out. Is there anyplace to download MP3 versions of them? If not, I'm willing to buy/trade for copies of them, either on tape or CDR. Please e-mail me if you can help out. Thanks!

Hey everybody,
I try not to promote the band and stuff like this, but I'm really happy with how my band's new recording came out and would like to ask everybody to check it out. We have a more developed and focused sound now and I'm excited to share it with everybody. Please visit http://www.mp3.c om/MoneyForTheToll and check out the song "Islands". As always, I'm looking for comments and criticism. Thanks.

I have a tape of the demos, that Matt sent me, which I promptly made into mp3s. Unfortunately I don't have enough webspace to upload them all, but I can upload them one at a time, if you want.

The following article is in the most recent edition of the "Shepherd Express", a small newspaper here in Milwaukee, but has a loyal reader following. I tried finding this on their website, but it wasn't there, so me, being the nice guy that I am, typed the following review up word for word, because I wanted you all to see it. And hey, the media isn't ALL bad! :-)
[ ***NOTE*** There are a few SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS in the following article, so if you don't want to see what the band played, DO NOT read this article!!! ]
***SPOILERS*** ***SPOILERS*** ***SPOILERS***
========================= "Dream Time"
It wasn't exactly Jesus playing a guitar solo Friday night at the Riverside Theatre, but Dream Theater's John Petrucci -- whose long, curly brown locks and well-grown beard bear an odd resemblance to a certain Biblical figure -- definitely fulfilled the role of savior for a small but rabid crowd of headbangers. For almost two-and-a-half hours, the guitarist and his four disciples in Dream Theater stomped on the sorry state of modern mainstream metal with a precision performance of highly technical arrangements and operatic vocals. Consisting of only about a dozen long songs -- including an encore of the 25-minute "A Change of Seasons" -- the set played like a clinic for musicians in training, with each player receiving the opportunity to stretch out and display virtuosity. Any moshers who favor barked vocals, distorted guitars and fast-and-furious songs were wise to steer clear of this gig. And while you can hear traces of Metallica, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden in Dream Theater's progressive-metal music, those bands enjoy much greater success on rock radio. Dream Theater's airplay -- at least in Wisconsin -- has been limited to a few tracks, none of which were performed Friday night. On record, vocalist James LaBrie sings with an intensity virtually unmatched by his contemporaries. Live, that intensity increases and transmits to the audience, making it difficult not to strain with LaBrie as he reached for the high notes on 1992's "Another Day" and "Home," from the band's latest album, Scenes From a Memory. LaBrie disappeared for extended periods during complex, multiple-passage jams by Petrucci, six-string bassist John Myung, sedate but brilliant keyboardist Jordan Rudess and Mike Portnoy (perhaps rock's greatest drummer since Rush's Neil Peart -- no exaggeration). But whenever he took center stage, LaBrie's extraordinary range, long hair and burning eyes set deep into his sockets lent a dignified aura of mystery and wonder to the proceedings. Spock's Beard, a California quintet that bridges the gap between old-school progressive rock (Genesis and Yes) and pop sensibilities (the Beatles and Cheap Trick) opened the evening with a rousing five-song, 50-minute set of headlining caliber. Front man Neal Morse goofed with his guitar-playing brother, Alan, who mimicked faux rock-guitar antics, and he joined Nick D'Virgilio for a two-man drum session. Unfortunately, an earlier-than-posted start time meant many fans were still filing into the theater as Spock's Beard played. Still, the fact that such a zealous albeit slight crowd gave almost four hours of its time to these two outstandingly unconventional bands on a magical Friday evening (during the waning days of summer, no less) is enough to restore one's faith in the redeeming power of music.

I'm definitely planning on calling in that day. Is anyone else planning on it?

O.k. everybody, here's our chance to put "Progressive Metal" on the map. This should work better than any petitions that have been attempted in the past. VH1 is letting people suggest a "category" for an award, and also nominate a candidate for that award. If we all choose the category "Best Progressive Metal Band", and nominate a select group of bands, we have a chance of getting this through. (Wouldn't it be cool to see DT on VH1 accepting an award?)
Here's what you need to do:
1. Go to this address: http://www.vh1.com/mymusic
2. Click on ">SUGGEST AN AWARD". (This will take you directly to the voting pop-up form. Otherwise you have to wait for their flash animation to download if you click on the "ENTER HERE" button).
3. A "suggestion form" should pop up.
4. In the "SUGGEST AN AWARD" box, type in "Best Progressive Metal Band". This is important. We must all type in the same category so that they will get counted together. Feel free to suggest other categories AFTER you do the "Best Progressive Metal Band", dammit! ;o)
5. In the "WHO WOULD YOU NOMINATE" box, enter your favorite Prog Metal Band. (I.e. Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation, Fates Warning, Symphony X, etc.)
6. Fill in whatever else you want and submit your vote.
7. Repeat every day until November!
