No one on that boat deserves to go they way they're going. I feel awful for those guys. A coworker of mine was in the USN and was on subs for years. He's really having a hard time with it.

That being said, many people - myself included - deal with the real world through the use of humor. I believe it was Dennis Miller (and correct me if I'm wrong) who said "There's the real world, and there's the joke world. The joke world can get pretty rough. Wear a cup."

I'll refrain from pointing out that the Russians were stupid and arrogant to send this boat out with a green crew, so that the regulars could get some shore leave. I will also withstand the temptation to remind everyone that the Cold War is over, and had the Russians given anyone else a clue as to the design of their subs, maybe the Brits or even the US could have gone in and rescued those guys.

If you like Arena and IQ, check out Jadis. Some of the same guys, a la Yes/ELP/Asia/King Crimson.

If you like DT and Fates (and Rush), check out Tiles.

Obviously, if you like APC, check out Tool.

I don't know much about any of those other bands.

BTW, The Minneapolis show was AWESOME!!! I'd like to take this time to thank all the Jammers that made it to the pre-show lunch.. I had a great time. It felt like we arrived as strangers and parted as friends. I will look forward to repeating the experience.

In every Friday's entertainment section of The Saint Paul Pioneer Press they have "Weekend Countdown 10 great things to do". Well I could not believe it when I saw last weeks addition, our band is finally getting a little press, and yes the writer made some mistakes(like not mentioning James..yikes!! and that "get ready for a theatrical show" part), but I am still glad they got included. Heres the article...... #6 Dream Theater Saturday/The Quest

For the hardcore fan with a bit more discrimination, Dream Theater offers thrash-influenced progressive rock. Founding members John Pertucci(hailed as one of the few technically proficient guitarists to emerge in the 90's), John Myung (bass) and Mike Portnoy (drums) met at Boston's Berklee School of Music. The group's fifth release, the concept album "Scenes From a Memory," is described as a sequel to "Metropolis Part 1 ( The Miracle and the Sleeper)" from their breakthrough 1992 album "Images ans Words." Get ready for a theatrical show.

    ______________

That day was a day of ups and downs. It was great to have a jam get together, I enjoyed meeting everyone....BTW Al you Rock!!!!

It was a very big disappointment not to have Spock's Beard perform. I was looking forward to hearing The Doorway. I know it was not their fault, something with the Quest only having time for 1 band so they could re-open at 10:30 for their dance club thing. But come on it was a 5 :30 show, and the show was promoted as being both bands. (Okay, i am done whinning now)

DT of course was the greatest. So much intensitiy, emotion, energy.

I think all you need is Windows Media. If my understanding is right, VCDs use the mpg2 format for movies, so theoretically you need only d/l Windows Media Player. If I'm wrong, hey, tell me to fuck off.

Yeah, that's right. There'll be a 600 or so meg .dat file. That's just an mpg in disguise. Use Windows Media Player to play it.

    ** SPOILER **

    San Diego Show 8/18/00:

SFaM (whole thing) The Mirror Pull Me Under Metropolis Pt. 1 (last half) Whole Lotta Love (just a short part) ACoS (whole thing)

This was my eighth DT show. The band hasn't been this animated and really into the songs since the I&W tour IMO. Nice to see that. Thanks DT!

Here's the original message somebody posted about the TRL saturation that we all should be a part of:

    /\***THIS IS IMPORTANT! READ ON!***/\

"And the Gods of Metal shall reign down death and destruction upon the trendy masses! And the underground heathenry shall rejoice..." - Psalm 1, Book of DMHC

Hail to thee, O Brother/Sister of Metal!

Ok, enough with the Manowar rhetoric. This message has been forwarded to you for an important reason, so don't scrap it yet. We of Metaldom should conduct a test - one so massive it will shake society to it's very core! Or at least, shake the beauracracy known as TRL to it's rotten, soulless center.

Ever get the feeling that show is rigged? Day in and day out it's like Parade of the Genetically Perfect singing songs so uninspired and unoriginal that even Ray Parker Jr. and Vanilli would have trouble sitting through them. Something is wrong here! Well, we at DMHC have the answer.

On Wednesday, August 30th, we are encouraging Metaldom to unite and stand against this evil corporate empire by flooding TRL with votes for IRON MAIDEN'S "THE WICKER MAN."

One of the stipulations for TRL is that the video must be less than 60 days old, and this is the one we came up with. We're not working for Iron Maiden or whatever label they're on. We just want a video that all of Metaldom can get behind. And let's not be picky - If you don't like Iron Maiden for whatever reason, still cast the vote for your love of Metal.

Here's how to do it: http://www.mtv.com/sendme.tin?page=/mtv/tubescan/trl99_new/pickaday.tin (be sure to write something like "What up, Carson! Phat sideburns! I'm voting for IRON MAIDEN cuz N'Sync sucks worse than a Mandy Moore cover version of Angel of Death!")

You can vote as many times as you want, as long as you change browsers every time.

    Or you can call: 1-800-DIAL-MTV (1-800-342-5688) CALL from 2:30 - 3:00P (Eastern Time) CALL from 1:30 - 2:00P (Central Time) CALL from 12:30 - 1:00P (Mountain Time) CALL from 11:30 - 12:00P (Pacific Time)

    Heavy Metal High-5's for everyone!
