As my wife and I were leaving the venue we heard someone yelling something
about FREE DT discs and there was quite a crowd around him. As we walked up
we saw a dude with a box handing out discs. Some good, some not, he was
yelling and laughing at the same time. Yep, James Labrie singing songs from
the first DT disc, WDADU, he cried. Who Wants One!!
I stared at this dude thinkin....More balls than brains for sure.
I sure would like to flatten him like a pancake, boyeee....

But instead I took my copy of When Dream And Today Unite
and went on home. Jeez, now I have 2 copies of the darn thing.

    Y'all get one guess...

    Hmm.

It's a somewhat well-known joke that the famous song title "Aura Lee" can be
pronounced "orally". I just figured, and don't be offended, that DT's "Anna
Lee" can be transformed in a similar way. ... . And that DOES add a new
    dimension to the lyrics:

    She keeps holding on
    Holding on to you
    Let her breathe the air
    Don't wanna be alone
    Where do you belong
    Anally

And now she's calling out a name
Can't keep on hiding all her pain
You feel the rain move in
    As you begin
To turn and answer the call

(Great song by the way. I just felt like being a pervert for once.)

Well, with a bit of luck I am back on the Jam after being uncerimoniously
dumped. And what a pants time for it to happen...! Just about the time I
was expecting to read a shed load of DT Gig Reviews. Well, I've been
reading them on MP.COM and I must say this tour is already shaping up to be
    the greatest...

    Can't wait...

    Hello all,

I'm reposting this, because apparantly there were no subscribers when I sent
    it last!

Well, the DT show Monday in Phoenix pretty much kicked ass. I was on the
front row, right in front of John Petrucci (very cool spot) for the whole
show. I got to Celebrity Theatre at 2:00 (the show didn't start until
7:00), to ensure said spot... :)

Anyway, I think the coolest part about the show was the fact that they
played SFaM all the way through before they said ANYTHING to the crowd.
They had 2 large TVs set up to show pieces of the story, and reinforce
lyrics. All in all, a very cool stage show. The band was in top form (as
always), and James sounded better than he has in YEARS - way better than on
OiaL. Jordan's piano solo (directly after the ragtime portion of DoE) was
just nuts - the man shreds! :)

After SFaM, they took a few minutes to rest while the static at the end of
FF played on the TVs, then the came on and played Peruvian Skies, then a
20-minute medley of several older songs, including PMU, UaGM, FiL, and
others. Then it was over - they had already played for nearly 2 hours by
this point! The crowd was great, and the band was totally tight and on.

The show wasn't without its flaws, though - James obviously forgot lyrics in
a few places, and JP's guitar was WAY too loud at times (esp. during the
soft songs like "Through Her Eyes"). You couldn't hear JM at all (you could
FEEL the bass, but that's about it), and Jordan was definitely too low in
the mix. But hey, that's about normal, right? Anyway, it was the first
time they had ever performed SFaM all the way through, and John was using an
Ernie Ball guitar (MUCH different than his Ibanez). For any and all
interested about its features, here goes -

standard MusicMan Silhouette body and headstock
24-fret rosewood fingerboard (tiny dot inlays in the standard configuration,
    unlike the JPM's offset dots)
    deep blue flamed maple top
    no pickguard
H/H pickup configuration, presumably the same DiMarzios as in the JPM
series, mounted directly to the body
piezo pickup in bridge for the acoustic parts
    STANDARD trem (not Floyd Rose)
no locking nut, but has locking tuners
3 knobs (presumably V/V/T, but the third could be something else entirely)
2 switches (one 3-way LP-style pickup selector, the other switches between
    magnetic and piezo pickups)

I believe that one of the MM guitars he used MAY have had a Floyd Rose
Sustainer system - he was getting all sorts of wacky harmonic feedback
during "The Spirit Carries On" that I haven't heard anyone get without a
sustainer system. Maybe that's what the third knob was for... ;)

Anyway, 'twas a great show - I wish I could see several more on this tour,
    but alas, I cannot... :(

Hello, all. Some buddies and I are making the trip down to Florida to
catch the Orlando and north-of-Miami shows. Is anyone planning a
jam-related gathering before either of these shows? Because this
potato-headed whatchamacallit sure would like to go....

I'm taking a Hard Disk Recording class this semester, and we have to do a
final project. I was thinking that I'd do, as my recording project (which
has to include vocals w/compression, drums, etc), Hollow Years. But I
only know by heart the vocals. Does anybody have any keyboard notation
for this song? I can get the guitar and bass tabs off the website, and
the drums are going to be easy enough to figure out, since the whole song
is basically in 4/4, but the keyboards are the hardest part to hear in the
whole song. Can anybody help me out?

I think it'll be kinda fun doing ALL the parts for this song - when I'm
done with it I'll post it somewhere so you can all listen to it! :) I may
not be done for several semesters, though...

    Hi everybody,

Sorry for disturbing you with this, but I have got this problem: I am
looking for 2 Australian guys who I met at the Dream Theater gig in the
IJsselhal, Zwolle in Holland on November 11th. I spoke to them a short time
just before the concert started, about amongst other things their travel to
Europe and that they had some DT items. I gave him my email address and one
of them said he would email me as soon as he was back in Australia
    (December/Januari?).

I tried to contact them on the DT newsgroup, but had no success. So that is
why I try it through Ytsejam, and I would like to ask one of them to please
contact me (off list) at one of the following email addresses:

    rik@marillion.zzn.com
    ejvpijkeren@hccnet.nl

    Thanks,

    Rik

    P.S.
Can anybody tell me why there aren't any Dutch dates (yet) on the upcomming
European tour? I promises to be the best tour ever: they will have a
favourite band of mine as their support act (Spocks Beard) and they will
play teir best album (SFAM). Can someone please update on this?
