I just listened this song, and a mighty fine song it is! :)
There is this slow guitar part which reminds me VERY much of some of the
slow guitar stuff on SFAM! You know, those introduction passages and
melodies on SFAM during the first 2 songs.
Give it a try, when you hear it you'll KNOW what part I mean.

I have a CARVIN magazine here and looked at CDs they have in it.
Now there is some instructional video bass school from a dude named
BUNNY BRUNEL. At the CDs section there is his album called "LA Zoo". The
text below:
Bunny Brunel's "LA Zoo", "The hot new progressive rock album", features
Bunny on bass, along with Vivian Campbell on guitar, Brian Auger on
keyboards and John Wackerman on drums, with special guest appearances by
Ray Gomez and Mike Stern.
What's the deal with this, it sounds quite interesting? "The hot new
progressive rock album" - gee. :)
Vivan Campbell sounds VERY familiar but can't recall ... Jon Wackerman,
maybe related to the drums god Chad Wackerman. :) And just look at that
guest - Mike Stern!!!
Never heard of the Bunny, but having the Stern dude as his guest is
enough reason to think about it. Or maybe I'm just not informed.
Aslo there are some CDs from Angelo Jannotti, guitarist. "Guitar wizz",
as called in the text. He plays guitar for the FRIENDS TV show music. Is
this any good?

I think one of my favorite Simpsons episodes is the one with Frank Grimes(or Grimy to Homer). The best part IMO is this series of dialogue:
Homer, looking for his beverage, grabs a beaker of sulfuric acid. Frank Grimes knocks it away before Homer can drink it.
Grimes: You idiot! You nearly drank a beaker full of sulfuric acid! Homer: (laughing) Acid, eh? Gee, that woulda been stupid. Boy would my face have been red. Grimes: Stop laughing you imbecile! Don't you realize how close you just came to killing yourself?
Homer then stares at him with the stupidest grin and blankest look on his face.
As for Santana, you have to realize that even if someone isn't that great, in the music industry, it's often how and when you start your career. Jimmy Page isn't that great of a guitarist, but he did revolutionize the way the instrument is played. The same goes for Santana. His music was very original and revolutionary at the time. No one had ever heard that type of work before.

I've been to see DT @ Toads 3 times now, and that was by far the largest crowd I've ever seen in that place. It was sold out, the fullest Toad's has been.. The Under 21 side was pretty empty, I guess, but there was no space to stand on the over 21 side that wasn't shoulder to shoulder with someone else. I suppose there was one good thing about that--there was no room to mosh, either. I ended up back even with the soundboard on the right side (stage left). Great show, great time!
I'm thinking, to prevent this type of thing for Boston (which is also sold out), we're taking over one of the side balconies to watch the show from. I want a good view of Jordan, and I don't want to deal with a huge crowd acting like last nights.

Vivian Campbell played for Dio in the mid-eighties. Then he went on Whitesnake in 1987-88. Eventually taking over the role as second guitarist for Def Leppard (replacing Steve Clark) in 1992-Present.

I was at that show too. DJ Swamp was nuts. The final sick, er, six minutes following Sexx Laws was just crazy. Awesome show. But the US tour isn't completely over. He's starting up a West Coast leg in April upon his return from overseas. Great pix on his site from the show.
Interesting how Dan's sole song complaint about Santana is about a song he didn't write. Strange how that gets overlooked. I don't put him on a pedestal, but then I tend not to do that. His current recognition is a generous nod for many years of performing. Anyone else catch Jennifer Lopez's dress [or lack thereof]? It's the buzz of the office.
I still see TNT's albums in the cut-out bins. Never bothered to check them out but they fit Korg's criteria.

Hey...
I just got a telephone message from Protix... the location of the show on Monday, February 28 has changed. It was formerly at the Recher Theatre in Towson, Maryland. The show has been moved to:
Bohagers 701 South Eden Street Baltimore, Maryland
The phone number for directions is (410) 563-7220. Also, the time of the show has changed to 9:00 P.M. (I don't know what time the doors open, though.) This information is confirmed on the Recher Theatre website.
Any other questions, let me know, I may be able to help. I saw the show at the 9:30 Club in Washington on Monday, it was absolutely incredible. I'll try to post a review after the Baltimore show.

FWIW, this is something I came across at www.jordanrudess.com:
The way I change sounds is with a single pedal. In Dream Theater I use one 2500 Kurzweil keyboard and a 2500 rack unit as well. Every time I step on my pedal (which is assigned to data increment) with my left foot, it changes the keyboard layout and sounds completely. I use the "SETUP" mode of the Kurzweil. One second I might have strings in the R.H. trombones mixed with timpani in the L.H. and when I hit the pedal I've got Voices, Piano and Chimes in the RH and a huge sound effect in the LH. Also each pedal step brings me sequentially through our performance. So I begin with sound 200 and end up the night at 500. Busy left foot!! In addition to all that, one of the zones in this SETUP is usually assigned to control the images on our large screens. These images are generated from a MAC program called Videodelic which responds to midi controllers. Both my instruments are maxed out Kurzweils having 128 meg of ram in each.

Ned: Well, it seems Heaven's just about as easy to get into as Arizona State these days!

Personally, I'm indifferent to Santana but I have a question. Did he even really do anything on that "Smooth" song he has out? DId he write it? Cause all I hear (and see in the video) is him just playing some lead here and there in the song that basically anyone could have done. It doesn't even have anything to do with the song itself really. It's just a few embellishments here and there that the song didn't even need IMO. I'm just curious as to whether or not he even composed the song. -Mike C.

Wow, what a great argument. you've really put me in my place this time.
I think most blues musicians would guess that YOU don't listen to much blues, if you think Led Zep sounds like good blues to you.
It's true that I am not "into" blues. I have, however gone to MANY blues shows, seen probably in the hundreds of different blues bands/artists. None of them have ever been nearly as sloppy as LZ in on that song. The best acts always had a very smooth, easy inmprovised feel, but were always a tight ensemble. DT goes too far in the other direction (however much I like it). It seems a little - no, a LOT - too rehearsed, and the solos are not very melodic, and as I already said, they take it a little fast for my tastes, but the ensemble is just better, IMO. And James kicks Robert Plant's ass all over. :)

Man I am now bummed. I just got the announcement that the DT show has been moved from the Recher Theater in Towson to Bohager's in B'More. Now I am just speculating here but, I am assuming that it was moved because the tickets to the Recher were not selling (still 350 available when I bought mine last week) and Bohager's is smaller. It's a freakin' club for crissake! Does anyone know the real reason behind the move?
I was really looking forward to seeing OFB at the Recher because I had heard that it was a converted movie theater that had great acoustics. The show time has also been changed to 9PM which will probably put DT on at the usual club time of 11:00, and on a school night no less! What a drag! Now I will have to make a night of it, get all drunk and shit, and suffer through the painful meetings on my calender for Tuesday morning! Oh well at least it's closer to my house.

I'll cast my vote for Met: P1, for all of the obvious reasons. I could make an argument for PMU but I won't. I interpretted the question of the defining song as that which defined them--DUH, and as such I feel it had to come from I&W since I don't think they have redefined themselves since (and I don't want them to!). That album and that song have set the bar, which IMO has not been surpassed.

I live in Levelland, Texas. It's a small community of about 14,000 last I heard. We have a junior college here that has a somewhat respectable commercial music department. Well, the other day I was driving around and I saw a large tour bus drive by, and on the back of it read "Pantera" in big letters. Being the curious one, I followed it for a while. It stopped at the music department and a crew of people began pouring out of it. As they did I noticed that they weren't exactly a heavy metal group. Underneath the word Pantera was the rest of their title; Pantera de la Noche. They are a tejano band from Mexico. Geez...what a space cadet.

Dude, I'm 99% sure that the couple you are talking about were at the Fix For 96 show at the Strand in Providence! That one was the roughest DT show I've ever been to. There was a guy and his girl, they just "danced" their way up front (more or less creating a 2 person mosh pit) I didnt get a good look at them, because I was too busy trying to stay on my feet. All I remember is the guy had a Bart Simpson tattoo on his arm. I eventually moved back in the crowd so I could actually enjoy the show.
I thought Toads was fun, although packed. I ended up standing behind the "fence" with the under 21 folks, because that was the only place you could stand and actually see when I got to the club. Looking forward to Boston!

<<first, a few minutes after i got in the door and found a good spot, this jerk pushes his way into the crowd and takes up residence right in front of these 2 girls that were next to me (who were both about a head shorter than he was)...several people said something to the effect that that wasn't very nice of him, to which he just shrugged and said 'shit happens' and didn't give it a second thought...</snip> >>>
