Been there, done that. I may have gone more than once but I remember
going in the rain and having to park "accross the street" which means 2
blocks away across the street in the Wienerschnitzel parking lot. If
you ever happen to see "Bowfinger", the theater everyone is in when
"Chubby Rain" premiers in the Fox Mann Theater over here in Westwood.
It hasn't changed in 50 years, complete with huge red velvet curtain,
painted ceiling and weird gold decorations along the side. Another neat
thing was when I say Austin Powers 2 at a theater in Westwood, and a
huuuge group of people had dressed up 60's style and rented a double
    decker bus.

There are a lot of good choices, like, "TTT" and "AMBI," but I'd go
with "Learning to Live." It's a goood, loong song, it flows somewhat
better than Met. Pt 1, and the subtle nature of the lyrics and the
message are my favorite comeback for morons who say that DT's lyrics
    are trite or silly. :)

I was recently searching for DT on altavista and the Kerri Strug Homepage came up as a search result. Just for the hell of it I thought I'd see what the connection was. It turns out the DT is one of her favorite bands. She even has "To Live Forever" playing in the background! (for those of you who don't remeber, Kerri strug is that gymnast who hurt her ankle or whatever in the olympics a few years ago) I found this kind of entertaining.

You don't like lyrics in THE ENTIRE ACOS ?!? Or you probably hate the lyrics in STRANGE DEJA-VU ?!?

Sorry, just had to... I know I know, they can be unlikable.... BUT STILL, ACOS ?!? ;-P

(this really isn't a suckup for Mikey, lyrics in ACOS are so special for me, I may get a little carried away seeing them put down in that way...sorry again)

mmkay, I get your point. ACOS is a breakless, consistent piece of music. Even though the sleeve text divides it into several parts, those parts aren't "songs", but rather, well, parts. There is one story. Although nothing prevents you from listening to only, say, Carpe Diem (well, the CD layout makes it a bit tedious to search to the right position in the track), you don't WANT to do that. You want to hear all of it, even though it takes time.

But. How is that any different from sfam?

I'm sorry, but what the hell is this doing on the Jam? I know we stray off the topic of Dream Theater quite often, and sometimes we stray totally away from music, our little Simpson's thread, but what is this doing here? I get enough email from businesses anyway, and I am personally getting really sick of it. I don't (and I'm pretty sure not many other jammers do) need this kind of thing.

..of the few people to actually LIKE UAGM ?!? Is this true ? Don't you guys (and gals) like listening to this song ? How come ? I think it's great. That heavy riffage before singing is just thundering ! Oh yeah, the solo is awesome, but so is the instrumental part before it, and Kev's solo after it (if you were referring to JP's solo).

I was at the show at Toads on Wed and I thought Dream Theater was amazing, but Toads was horrible. It was way over packed, no one could move and of course that fence didn't help a thing. I also was standing in front of the sound board but I could barely see or breathe and I couldn't move at all. Dream Theater needs to start playing at a larger place in CT like the Webster or the Oakdale, they've definitely outgrown Toads Place.

I've never been to the Oakdale, but I saw 'em at the Webster two years ago, and I don't recall it being too crowded. Last night really sucked though. Toad's place had ALMOST redeemed itself with the last few shows I saw there, but then they went and put that fence up on the right of the stage again. It's a shame, too, because Toads really is a kickass venue when that thing's not up....

First of all, I must say that I think The Simpsons is the common thread that holds together society. People from all walks of life enjoy the Simpsons, from the more conservative folks to the more..um.. demented folks. One of my favorite lines was when they were in a courtroom and Bart had to testify (I forget the details) and he looks at Homer and Homer thinks "son, I know you can tell what I'm thinking...meow-meow-meow-meow meow-meow-meow-meow-meow meow-meow-meow-meow-meow-meow-meow-meow-meow" (you know, the jingle from the meow mix commercial) it wasn't the funniest line ever but I'm a cat person so I appreciated it. hmm... come to think of it I haven't seen that episode in a while... it was in an episode, right?... I'm not imagining this, am I?.... So, anyway, DT content? Well, I went to Toads to see them and I was a bit disappointed about the whole fence thing. But I decided to just make the best of the situation and enjoy it anyway, it being my first DT concert. (I'm a young'un, a newbie) so I really had nothing to compare it with. I had never been to a club show before and never been to a DT show either. But I certainly enjoyed it. Even though I couldn't see that well, just the feeling of being engulfed by the music is wonderful. And I was paying attention to the videos, too, for some of it. I wanted to get more of an insight as to the details of the whole plot & mystery of SFAM. Well I just thought I'd come out of lurker mode....

Yeah, I can consider the votes for:

Metropolis Part I Scarred Lines in the Sand

to be undeniable selections. And great selections to boot.

However how can you overlook the live version of AH/TKH that came as a bonus on the Hollow Years CD single (jap) ?? Absolutely brilliant. What cool DT element do you not have here ?? Heaviness, subtlety, a bit of jazz and complexity. And, it does not offend first listeners like "other contenders". While they haven't played this song for a while, I would consider this a great thing to do on the next tour. Could Jordan slam dunk Derek ?? I dont know. There may be no losers in that contest.

The only problem with this may be if you live in Paris and recall me trying to sing this thing (I dont listen to words, sue me .......) after entirely too many beers in 1998. Even with vocal help from other jammers for whom I shall protect their innocence, this had to be painful.

yes Wednesdays show at Toads was packed, as usual. sold out as was the FII show there, as I recall the evening with DT last year, the mellow show and not sold out as I recall. o k people complaining about the rowdiness of shows, you youngins obviously weren't around on I&W tour and even Awake and the early X-mas shows, when mosh pits and many crowd surfers kicking you in the head were the norm, now this show at Toads was nothing compared to years past. I was about 5 row center, yeah theres always pushing and jockeying for position, if your stuck next to an asshole, try to slide away from them, like 1 or 2 people away, dont let them ruin the show for you. either that or start working out, I usually tell people to let up with the elbows and they usually do! or go stand in back where you cant see shit. as far as the under 21 bullshit net thing, fuck that I wouldn't stand behind a net , either make it a 21 and over show, or play the Webster in Hartford., they definately pack too many people into toads,

the show definately kicks ass!! looking forward to Sunday Roxy show, and the Orlando and West Palm shows. yeah I love seeing SFAM in its entirety, but I wouldnt mind them mixing up the set after that.

I think this was the first show in about the last 15 or 16 New England/NY shows, that I didn't run into Skadz ?????????????????

But then of course, what do the Grammy people know..... They nominated K= id Rock as best new talent. If my memory serves correct, he's released 2 ma= jor label records, and 2 indie's. wow that's weird.. But I do know that Sa= ntana didn't write that "smooth" song. I'm still curious why the record label didn't milk the new Santana Cd for all it's worth. He had so many differ= ent mainstream artists on there that they could have made an even bigger prof= it figure.

Does anyone else like the music man Petrucci's using now. I really like = it. It had the fishman pick-up in the bridge. And Music man has always made = a great guitar. I talked to our own John P after the show in Detroit, awes= ome, and he said he switched because and I quote "better guitars, better deal.= " =

which is true. Has anyone also noticed in the new lexicon mpx-g2 ads, jp= 's quoted in it, saying it helped him replace his 2 22-space racks with one = 10- space. I think this quote came from the LTE2 sessions. His rack now is = back to it's huge normal self, and no Mpx-g2 in sight. John did tell me after= the gig that it's a nice piece of gear.... =

Sorry about the rambling, I'm a gear head

    Hey folks..

    http://www.grammy.com/magazine/features/CA1B2061D2DBB64B8025688F005D88F1.html

Very interesting article on the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards webpage (mouthful) entitled "Metal Renaissance." Talks about how metal and "agressive, guitar driven" music has "perhaps always had a strong grassroots audience" and is definitely making a comeback. Hmmm...

Well, I don't necessarily think it's their BEST song, but in my books the definitive tune is "Take the Time". It's got that great blend of progginess and catchiness, with some great melodies.

    >Well...they had a lot of songs that "just happened to have a bluesy feel." >They were a rock band, yes, without question...but they were, especially on >the first two albums, *very* heavily influenced by blues music.

Well, on the first album, they actually ripped off Willie Dixon! Dixon sued and won. That's why Dixon has some song writing credit on the first album. So, regarding that first album, I'd use the phrase "stole from the great blues players" as opposed to "heavily influenced by" them. This being said, I have always like Zep and do consider them one of the greatest rock bands ever. This also being said, after hearing every damn song of theirs off the first 2 albums and Led Zep 4 (or Runes or whatever ya wanna call it) being played ad nauseum, I am just sick to death of them at this point of my life and wouldn't mind if they weren't played on the radio for the next 5 years. After all, how often can ya listen to Whole Lotta Love and Rock and Roll?! Give em a rest now I say. -Mike C.
