What time have the shows generally been starting? My ticket says 8:30. Should
I show up at 8:00 if I don't want to miss anything?

There is a trilogy of songs at the end of Dark Saga ("The Suffering"),
BUT the ENTIRE album (not just the trilogy) is actually based on the
    Spawn comic book.

You are right about Something Wicked though. Just the last three songs
are related, although the next album is going to be a concept album
based on the character ("Set Abominae") described in the trilogy.

Brian Hayden is right, Led Zep was HEAVILY influenced by the blues! No question about that one.

Thanks for the info Matt, I also found out something new about the Recher and Bohager's (where I will most definitely be on Monday night BTW). The girl on the phone at Bohager's told me that the NEW Bohager's is actually a lot larger than the Recher! Could it be that there was not enough room at the other place to hold all of the DT fans planning to attend :-) not the other way around as was the pessimistic conclusion I jumped to?

I will be there and am likely bringing some DT show virgins with me-a couple of unenlightened guitarists!

Speaking of guitarists, the two jammers below must be a couple of truly awe inspiring players to have the balls to make such statements. ROTFLMAO! Sorry guys, you're both extremely confused.

Hm, I couldn't read this and not mention Pearl Jam's trilogy of songs. I can hear it already "Wha?!?! Pearl Jam have a song trilogy?! No way! Grr hrr hrr!" But they do, this is so. The trilogy starts with "Alive", followed by "Once" and ends with "Footsteps". Without going in to too much detail, the song deals with a man who's life just goes to shit really really fast. The songs aren't in that order on Pearl Jam's 'Ten' CD (hell, "Footsteps" isn't even on it, but there's a really good reason for that which I'll be happy to explain if anyone doesn't know why), but the trilogy is there. The name of the trilogy is "Mamasan". What that stands for, I couldn't tell ya, but they do have a trilogy of songs. On their second album, they have a duology of songs ("Daughter" and "rearviewmirror"). Anyway, just wanted to add a little nugget to this subject to see what happens after this. Heh heh. Laterz.

Well, I can agree somewhat. A lot of their stuff is overplayed; but as I don't listen to the radio much anymore (at least not classic rock stations), it's no skin off my nose. In reality, if you look at the first two albums, Whole Lotta Love is played a lot. Dazed and Confused gets some play, but not all that much with that long instrumental section. Heartbreaker/Living Loving Maid comes on now and then. Other than that, the first two albums really aren't on the radio much at all. I don't think as a whole they're any more overplayed than any other group/performer from that era. Think how much more play the later Beatles, later Stones, early Billy Joel, etc. get on the same "classic rock" stations...those are all the same time period more or less.

As far as ripping off Willie Dixon, I think that's complete bullshit and really does lessen my respect for the man, though he's a biggie in the blues tradition and I like his music. The blues is a traditional, oral/aural form, and thus built on people using each other's stuff; there are many riffs and lyric lines repeated in blues songs, many of which go as far back as plantation songs. But, once Zep got huge, Dixon knew he could make a bundle off it. They probably should've given him credit in the first place, but no other blues performers give credit for the same type of use; I think he was a money grubbing bitch for pursuing that lawsuit. Basically, he only won because they were white and British, and therefore not considered part of the "real" blues tradition.

I have to add my 2 cents here...the first Dream theater song I ever heard was 6:00 on AWAKE, and being a drumming student at the time, from the first couple of pick up notes from the drum intro, i was hooked, and i can honestly say that that was the definitive moment for me, when i became a fan...Awake still is one of my real faves...

Someone mentioned Pat Metheney on a post the other day...I was just wondering if there were any Pat Metheney fans out there on the jam, and to be more specific, Lyle Mays fans...I had the opportunity to Attend the University of North Texas' College of Music...this was when i was introduced to the album "Lab '75" which was devoted entirely to the compositions of Lyle Mays, at which time (1975) he was a student and the One o'clock lab band's Keyboardist/pianist. Just a little background info for the interested; The University of North Texas One o' Clock lab bands have recorded cd's every year to commemorate the particular groups work through out the year...when Lyle Mays was a student back in '75, in a very controvertial move at the time, the members of the 1 o clock lab voted unanimously to dedicate the entire recording to the compositions of Lyle Mays. Anyway, this question I'm about to pose only concerns fans of both Lyle Mays and Jordan Rudess...which is youre favorite? I have to admit, i would love to see them do a cd together...two of the greatest pianists of our time come together to create the most unique piano recordings in recent years...

OK, I see your point as well. But for me, I can't listen to ACOS in parts because I just think of it as one song, and if I listen to a part of it I just would feel like I'm listening to one part of a the greater whole. I guess other people can maybe, but not me. It would have been a neat idea though if maybe they would have gave it track numbers so that you could listen to the different parts of it without the hassle.

    >But. How is that any different from sfam?

Well, maybe it's just a personal thing, but SFAM seems to me to be far more of a collection of songs that tell one whole story than does ACOS. I've always just thought of ACOS as one whole song in and of itself. And when I meant that I would like to hear a group do a 3 or 4 song storyline, I was thinking more along the terms of something where each song was its own unique entity moreso than the individual part of ACOS. The closest I have heard of this is perhaps Pearl Jam (whom I forgot had done this until now). They had a trilogy of songs that told one story back during the time of their first album. The story consisted of the songs Once, Alive, and Footsteps. I forget in which order though. Once and Alive of course are on the first album, and Footsteps was (as far as I know) only recorded live acoustically and included as a B-side on the Jeremy single. By the way, for any Pearl Jam fans out there (especially of the first album), I would recommend picking that single up. Footsteps is one of my personal fav Pearl Jam Songs. The single also has Yellow Ledbetter on it. Sorry for the rambling here at the end! -Mike C.

so the lady on the recording said it was the new bohager's (at parrot island)? that's important to know, considering i'm used to going to the old bohager's next to the bakery. the new one at parrot island (w/ the dome) is huge. considering baltimore's lack of musical diversity, i doubt they switched venues because of lack of space! btw, if you and your friends are looking to get together to do whatever, i know a bunch of places to hang out, or get something to eat after the show or whatever you all want to do. let me know. i'm off to dream of the electric factory's concert!! can't wait till later. peace.

    Hello all,

I finally have a good reason to emerge from lurker-mode.

If we haven't met already, I'm Greg, and failing a blizzard on Saturday morning, I should be in Boston this weekend for the show. (a warm weekend is expected, thankfully)

My fianc=E9e Helen and I may be the only two Canadians in attendance at the Roxy, and you should be able to recognize us immediately: we'll be the kind ones holding doors for people, picking up dropped beer bottles (for safety reasons); and we'll likely be looking fai= rly intimidated by the tempestuousness of the rowdy American crowd.

This will be her first DT experience, and my fourth... ..she's been listening to SFAM all week at her workplace, (with headphones, as not to disturb her Grammy-loving co-workers), and she tells me she's pretty excited about seeing this piece of music performed live...she even described several sections of SFAM as 'ground-breaking'...so I think we're ready.

If you spot us, please don't be shy --- come on up and say hello! This could be your only chance to meet a real Canadian, other than Mr. Labrie, of course.

I should be in a black leather jacket--- Helen will be in a black, knee-length coat. (unless there's a coat check)

I'll probably be drinking Rolling Rock. Helen will most likely be drinking Sam Adams. (unless the club stocks neit= her)

I have short brown hair. Helen has long brown hair.

We'll both have earplugs in, so you'll have to speak up!

Looking forward to meeting a few jammers in Boston! T minus 2 days.

    Hey Jammers,

My "buddy", who says he's a DT fan, bailed out on me late last night AFTER I bought the tickets on Wednesday. Now I have an extra ticket for sale, if anyone is interested. Please e-mail me privately at Angelo13@home.com OR at my work address AngeloL@Voegele.net. I don't want this ticket go to waste.

BTW... my wife is 9 months pregnant, and she also can't go due to obvious reasons.

    Thanx, Angelo

Just a few words about the Toad's show... Of course, DT was incredible! I couldn't have been happier with their performance. My friend and I were surrounded by mostly decent people, with the exception of the dick that stepped in front of us. He only momentarily disturbed our euphoria, though, ' cuz when DT hit the stage, we were right where we wanted to be and he was nowhere in sight! About the rabid DT fan, she was the most annoying part of the show, since "the arm" distracted me even from where I was! A moment to remember: about halfway through DT's set, the guy standing in front of my friend (who was MUCH taller than she was), turned around and offered her his spot at the railing. Whatta guy! My only real complaint: it was just too damn cold in there! Had I known they were gonna crank the AC, I'd have worn my freakin' parka! ----- Original Message ----- ---------------------------- > Date: Thu, 24 Feb 2000 12:36:10 -0500 > From: "M. Despite my lengthy post giving numerous links to websites for just about every country on DT's European tour Marie Donnell still posted the following:

    >Date: Fri, 25 Feb 2000 13:09:10 +1100 >From: Marie.Donnell@agso.gov.au >To: ytsejam@torchsong.com >Subject: Euro tour tickets > >Well now my brother has chosen to go to either of the Norway shows >And we were trying to find out where to get tickets and also any >hotels around that area >Any help at all you guys could give me would be awesome :)

*puzzled look* Well I posted this f**kin link yesterday Norway http://www.billettservice.no/cgi-bin/bs/bs_best.cgi?DREAMTHEATER@ORF@001-001

and it is on the f**kin DT website for cryin out loud!!!

To find the venue, go to http://www.rockefeller.no/

    - click on Rockefeller - click on 'verdt a vite' (middle button) - then select 'kart' from the side menu

It looks like a short walk from Oslo Train station.

As for a hotel - when I travel, I normally use a search engine, to find sites like the following.

    http://www.gonorway.no/ http://www.localhotels.com/eu/norway.html

Bear in mind that Hotels in this part of the world, tend not to be cheap.
