For a quick rule of thumb in german:
ach, och =deep throat hairball sound (acht, hochdeutsch)
ech, ich = shallow, "human" sound, (Zurich, echt{meaning really?}) I
personally don't like that analogy though, but I can't think of a better
one. There really isn't a good example of this in english. I am nearly
fluent in german, and have been harassed by several german teachers on
pronunciation, just be happy this is a fun mailing list and not a dictation
on an exam:)

????? What does the acoustic show have to do with the Freedom
Call EP? On the acoustic side, there are the 3 numbers that they
recorded at the FNAC store in Paris, which appeared as a bonus
CD with some editions of Holy Land in France. These numbers
also appear on the 'Acoustic and More' CD which was issued by
Lucretia Records in Italy and which also contains the contents of
the 'Evil Warning' EP. This also came as part of the special edition
'Holy Box'. Freedom Call was issued as a separate EP and also
in a double CD set with one of the other CDs (can't remember
which one right now).
There is an acoustic bootleg recorded in Argentina which is not
bad. Sorry, but I don't have the means to make you a copy
of it.
>On a similar Angra note, what are they up to these days?
Well they played the last gigs of the Fireworld tour in Brazil
last september. They are supposed to be taking a break, but
Andre has a solo disk to work on. I don't think that their next
CD is expected until late 2000/early 2001

Well I hope they have some recordings that weren't affected
by sound problems. They had a much poorer sound that DT
at both shows I saw which messed up more than the odd
song. I wasn't impressed.
However since then I've heard a bit more of 'Presents of
Mind' and I'm slowly coming round to them. I do wish that
they 'projected' a bit more on stage.

I forgot about the Tower. For some reason I have never been there even though
I've seen like 30 or 40 concerts. The only band I was ever going to see there
was Extreme but they wound up canceling on the night of the show due to Gary
Cherone's voice problems! Yeah, I guess the seating capcity is about the
same. Maybe it's just mpre expensive to play than the electric factory? I
dunno. It's weird but I never hear of any hard rock/metal bands playing there
at all anymore. Maybe they just don't book those kinds of shows there
anymore? Well, I guess I'm the only one that doesn't mind the electric
factory. And the ventalation was fine the last time I went there, which was
Megadeth in November. All the side doros were left open.If thats not enough
ventalation then I don't know what is! At any rate, I can't wait to see them.
I'm curious as to how many songs they will do before breaking into SFAM. I
assume they'll do Metropolis pt. 1 as well.

Jeez guys - stop your whining. Why don't you just drive to one of their
shows in Chicago or Ohio like the rest of us in Indiana? It isn't that far
- You should be used to having to drive 3 hours to get anywhere anyway. I
lived in San Diego and would routinely drive up to LA to see DT. One time
I even flew to Northern CA to see them. So a three hour drive to Chicago,
or *gasp* a two hour drive to Cinncinati is NOT something to complain
about.
Hell at least they are playing in our country. :)
I'm not complaining for me, I'm making a point, if you would read a little
deeper, for those who CANNOT drive to thesplaces or stay out that late.

Was it Hampton Beach, Aug. 4th, Casino Ballroom, and did the Purple-gigs begin two days later in Holmdel?
there are certain rumors about a *Casino Ballroom*-boot, which I can't verify.
can anyone help, as well in matters of recordings of that DP/ELP/DT-tour?

Now I have. :) It was ok, but I think I would've liked it more if I could
understand what the heck he was singing. At least he sung a lot better in
his native language than in english :) worth checking if you feel like it.
On another note, has anyone else noticed a much higher singalongability on
SFaM than on any other DT album? I learned the lyrics at once just by
listening and can't help singing along all the time. I haven't done that
with any other DT album.
Rock on!

Hi,
I live in the small market town of Thrapston in the East Midlands of
England. We have two pubs, a small church and a parade of shops. Why won't
Dream Theater come and play here, I've had a word with the Vicar and he said
that the event could be held in the small church hall, there must be tens of
people in the surrounding area that would love to come to an evening of
progressive rock, my brother runs a disco, we could borrow his lights, I
think he may even have a smoke machine.
Mike, I know you read the Jam sometimes, please Dream Theater come to
Thrapston, small market town of Northamptonshire, England...!

KevMo had Tori Amos on his keyboard? Wow, I know she's not really a heavyweight, but one would expect it to have been safer on a grand piano! Not to mention more comfortable, given all those knobs on the Kurzweil...maybe she likes that though. ;) ;)

And unlike the "Yes purists" out there, I hope they play "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" because it's YES (cut the Cinema baloney). Yes is Yes. Just because it was a popular song doesn't mean it's not a good song. Trevor wrote good songs. But they have moved on, "The Ladder" is amazing! Enough rambling...

Yep, 'tis true. Rob certainly does not have one foot in the grave yet! ;-) (As an interesting aside, Rob and I work on the same floor at the same company. Neither of us knew that the other was a mere few footsteps away until one day when I happened to stroll by his cube, and he had the Awake album cover as his Wondows wallpaper. The rest is history. :-) )
Rob, I'm not sure if I'm misreading your post or not, but to me it sounds like you're claiming that there are more "metal" fans than "prog" fans in the DT fan base. I'm not so sure about that. I bet that if you polled everyone, it may be split evenly 3 ways: 1/3 with "metal" tastes, 1/3 with "prog" tastes, and 1/3 with overlapping tastes. I know that you are a "prog" guy at heart... I myself am a die-hard "metal" guy at heart that likes straight ahead metal, but also likes challenging (ie. progressive) metal. However, I do like some prog stuff... old Rush is awesome, and I grew up listening to my dad's old Yes albums. Of the ones I've heard, I love the "Classic Yes" compilation, "Close To the Edge", and my favorite "Drama". Mind you, I haven't heard all of their stuff.
I would love to see a DT/Yes show. I went into the DT/ELP/DP show with an open mind and had a blast. Carl Palmer knocked me on my ass! (I've always been a big DP fan.) So, I have a feeling I'd love a DT/Yes gig too. So long as they play "Starship Troopers" for me. Or maybe "Machine Messiah" and "Close To the Edge" while they're at it too. ;-)
Ah well. Enough rambling for me...

Blasphemy! The TLA is great! It's so personal and intimate. I'd LOVE to have DT play there again, but alas, they've moved on to bigger venues and no matter how much I like the TLA better, I respect their desire to make more money in a by playing in a bigger, but far worse venue!
The TLA is great. Learn that :) Heheheh

WRONG. :)
Korg was right, because the word "uvula" starts with a glide ("YOOVyula" is how it's pronounced). In this case, the "why" sound isn't considered a vowel and thus you would NOT say "an uvula" but rather "a uvula."

I checked the Ticketmaster web site today and found the Saturday, February 5th show was finally listed. However, when I tried to purchase tickets I was informed that tickets were not yet available.
I called my local Ticketmaster and they told me that I could buy tickets if I came in.
When I arrived to purchase tickets, they told me they weren't available, that Ticketmaster would not be selling tickets to that show, and that I would have to contact The Palace Theater directly. (at least they didn't charge me $15.00 for answering questions)
I called The Palace Theater and was informed that there would not be a Saturday show!!!???
What's goin' on. Are they holdin' all those tickets to give out at the NAMM show?

Some people on this list have too much free time. While I've spent the last two days perfecting myself with playing LiTS so that on the off chance when (or if) I'm at the show on the 8th and a stage light falls on John, killing him, I can jump up on the stage and at least prolong the show for one more song. :)
And YOU guys are wasting your time checking my grammar? Losers! :) -- KorgX3 can't wait (or maybe he can) for the 8th.

Hey Matt (and everyone else)! I agree that the Jam seems to be fairly evenly split. I do think that there are a slight bit more Metalheads on here than progheads or even the ones that overlap. It's fairly close. I do find it interesting when a metalhead will say that an Iluvatar or a Spock's Beard just aren't heavy enough and then will go on to say that the new album from Anthrax is pretty progressive (and I like Anthrax). It's what makes this list so damn fun. In any case, I did have a point and forgot it.
Rob
PS for Matt: I started a new job on Monday, so I'm not there no more! I meant to stop by but never seemed to run into you! ---- Begin Original Message ----

Yep, 'tis true. =A0Rob certainly does not have one foot in the grave yet! =A0;-) =A0 (As an interesting aside, Rob and I work on the same floor at the same company. =A0Neither of us knew that the other was a mere few footsteps =

Rob, I'm not sure if I'm misreading your post or not, but to me it sounds like you're claiming that there are more "metal" fans than "prog" fans in the DT fan base. =A0I'm not so sure about that. =A0I bet that if you polled=
everyone, it may be split evenly 3 ways: =A01/3 with "metal" tastes, 1/3 with "prog" tastes, and 1/3 with overlapping tastes. =A0I know that you are a "prog" guy at heart... I myself am a die-hard "metal" guy at heart that likes straight ahead metal, but also likes challenging (ie. progressive) metal. =A0However, I do like some prog stuff... old Rush is awesome, and I grew up listening to my dad's old Yes albums. =A0Of the ones I've heard, I love the "Classic Yes" compilation, "Close To the Edge", and my favorite "Drama". =A0Mind you,=
I haven't heard all of their stuff. =A0
I would love to see a DT/Yes show. =A0I went into the DT/ELP/DP show with an open mind and had a blast. =A0Carl Palmer knocked me on my ass! =A0(I'v= e always been a big DP fan.) =A0So, I have a feeling I'd love a DT/Yes gig too. =
=A0So long as they play "Starship Troopers" for me. =A0Or maybe "Machine Messiah" =
and "Close To the Edge" while they're at it too. =A0;-)
Ah well. =A0Enough rambling for me... =A0
Later!! =A0 =A0- Matt T.
