I don't think that they were because I remember AJfA being my favored pick,
and although I really like the album, I wouldn't have picked it over O:M.

It didn't. It _is_ the only QR album that can claim gold, though, without
sales being influenced by Empire. It went platinum sometime in '91 after
Empire was released. www.riaa.com has all of the specifics.

Well it appears I'm the only one who thinks Entropia mops the
floor with One Hour By The Concrete Lake. In fact, if I hadn't known
better, judging by the sound of these albums I would guess Entropia to be
their second release and not their first. It is more technical, the band
takes bigger risks, and I just plan like the melodies more. Entropia also
seems to contain a wider range of styles. There are some sick slap bass
grooves that don't appear on OHbtCL and I think the other lead guitar
     player is better on Entropia.
Because it is so wild, I would agree that Entropia is probably a
bit more difficult to get into. But don't give up on it, I think it's
just so out there and whacky that it takes a long time to digest
everything that's going on. For example, listen to the rhythms in track 6.
It blows me away every time. I love both albums and PoS is definitely one
of my new favorite bands. >>

No way man. I TOTALLY agree with you. Entropia is more adventrous in my
opinion and definantly crazier. I think that it really attacks your ears
from every angle. Should we even talk about the short pieces like Circle
that makes my hair stand on end. So hauntingly beautiful its sick. And
then, the last sentence of this chilling story . . . "If death is but dream
then don't let me . . . fall asleep." Wow. I mean, this is DEEPLY moving
stuff. Daniel Gildenlow should be given major credit for some of the best
lyrics I've ever heard. His writing is phenonmonal, not to mention his
delivery of those lyrics, nothing is choppy at all. Then, we would have to
talk about his overal singing ability which is MONSTER. Oh yea, did we say
that he plays guitar and trades solo's?:>
He does do all of this on OHBtCL, BUT on this CD, I think that its got a
LOT less of a formulaized pattern to it(I said this in a previous post).
Now, dont get me wrong, One Hour is awesome:> But Entropia SMOKES it:>

Hey, Long time reader, first time poster. Now that DT has released a
fabulous concept album and plan to perform the album in its entirety in
concert, I would think that this will definitely be recorded. Is it possible
that DT will release another Live album? Or maybe they regret releasing a
live album after FII and now they feel that they can't release another one?
Maybe it could be released as a fan club CD for Christmas of 2000? I think
that they have to make this available to their fans in a quality format
instead of through bootlegs! What about a video? CYA- Dave

Actually Mike's first kit was an Imperialstar (which still is my favourite
Tama line) and he HAD an endorsment deal at the time, but when he asked Tama
to make him a custom kit, they refused. Then Mapex contacted him and offered
him a custom kit and he went to their camp. I remember pretty well from an
old interview, that Tama told Mike that "The door is still open" and when
they came along with the excellent Starclassic, Mike ran back to them. :)))
The Starclassics are great drums, but I still miss that epic drum sound from
the LiT video (excluding the snare, the new SC snare sound kicks all types
    of human body parts).

    Cheers,

    Victor

    Guys,

I'm back, actually I've been back for the best part of a week but I've had trouble getting my messages through (I think I've been having some MIME troubles). I have left sunny Alabama and am now in rather colder than I remember England. But I'm very happy about it.

There was talk of DT supporting Yes, presumably this is a State Side tour. If you get a chance - go and see these gigs, Yes will blow you away, and DT opening is a complete dream...! I wonder what sort of set they'll do, I'm not sure that the really heavy stuff will come across too well with a Yes audience.

    Laters,

    Dave (a UK jammer).

The fact that they put Metallica at #1 puts the whole thing in perspective, IMHO. Not that they are wrong about the DT stuff, I just mean, putting M at number one... Would be interesting to see the rest of the list !

I was really looking forward my first listen to Mullmuzzler when it arrived last month ... but I'm not overly impressed with it. The Shadow Gallery (co-)written songs stand out a mile as do the Trent Gardener ones (whose style I've always f^*kin hated). As always Carl Cadden-James and Allman deliver some nice melodic elements coupled with some desparately cheesy clichees. BUT, I do like 'His Voice' and 'Statued'.

I guess I would have got on alot better with the album if the Shadow Gallery and Trent Gardner influences weren't so blindingly obvious.

IMHO, this album is worth picking up but it does come off as a collection of (some pretty good) songs which were handed to James to sing. I hope Mullmuzzler record another CD with alot more influence from James and the band.

what's your point? I don't see where I claimed Pink Floyd/ Radiohead/Muse as not being prog, and I'll even give you Phish.....are you going to try and convince me that Ben Folds Five is progressive? I'm listening, just tell me where to find some sound clips on the net, because the stuff (however limited) I've heard from that band so far doesn't fit that description.

    pay $50 to see DT?

    >"Dream Theater is the confirmed opener for Yes during the summer of > >2000"

I would have seen Yes in concert by now, but for the fact that I'm not willing to pay $50 for the privilege. Maybe if they're not playing some high class venue in Detroit like the Fox Theatre, the price will be less, and I'll consider going, but for me, personally, a ticket price like that is insane, even with two of my favorite bands performing.

i'd love to hear your thoughts....I know there are folks among us who pay no attention to the costs of seeing DT or other prog metal acts, witness the road trips and intercontinental trips described here recently, but I'm willing to bet the majority of people on this list are somewhat closer to my position.

Well, I don't think they ever meant it to have influences from the band (except for Matt maybe, since he wrote a couple of songs). As from James, I cannot say, but this is what I understood from all the interviews and stuff...

But you're right about that thing that they should do another record. The line-up is wonderful and I'd believe they could be doing all by themselves, for I hear Keneally is said to be a true genious and to me Matt is too...

Sorry, don't know the URL, but I've always used Easy CD Creator with Disc-at-once - option (if possible, of course), and I haven't noticed any gaps. But I'm really not a veteran user, so what do I know ;-)

Which reminds me, between being worked to the point of insomnia and my own sullen inteptitude, that I'd never posts the links to those song here. :P There are two Mullmuzzler and two The Gathering songs for you guys to check out. :)

And that ought to do it. :) Also, in a strange twist of fate, I was watching some Backstreet Boys thingamajig in MTV last weekend (hey, fuck off, they're not that bad :) and they had a little side interview with a band called Temugin (I think). VERY much like the Gathering. I was like, "shit, something very good on MTV!" The singer is very good (quite on par with Anneke, imo) and they're one of the few (if only) bands with a deaf audience. The singer signs everything she sings. Pretty weird. Anyway... -- KorgX3 finally got it done for you. :P NP: Marillion - Clutching at Straws

Yup. With EZ CD Creator, when you click the record button, you just find the little box that asks, "Disk-at-once recording" and hit it. It takes all of those two second skips out. If you do this though, you can't add anything to the disk later, so get everything you want in from the start.

The Disk at once option only appears in the full version though (I think). It should be located in the same dialog box as the "write to disk and leave session open" "write to disk and close session" toggles. -- KorgX3 loves making his own CD's. NP: Same ass thing.

Thanks for that, Ryan!! Using a browser, the directory loads orders of magnitude quicker now.

It's weird going back to the first few jams in the archive and checking out the cast of characters that posted: Ptacek tearing Damon a new orifice, Rick Terry's humor, Marcel with a sig file larger than Arash's :), Geo signing his name George Sumschidt, D-man's signature file, Bafu engineering EOJ's like Germans engineer cars, Korg -> the sensitive, serious years :), and on and on and on.....
