Al is the man! If he could play half that crap he did with Savatage ("The Storm" for example) I knew he could learn Megadeth. The real question is... will he actually stay in this band for more than two albums?! I guess it depends if someone more popular comes along. I liked Knight Rider, but I found that he was just another guy in a cool car. No extra powers outside the car, that sucked for me. So let's take a trip back. Back to the 60's and TV. One of my first favorite TV shows was one called ULTRA MAN, a Japanese real life show about a man that turns into a 50 foot tall aluminum man to fight monsters. It was cool for a 5 year old. That told my age here. Then in the 70's my favorite TV show was THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN. lol I can remember wanting to be as cool as Steve Austin. Wanting to beat the crap out of the local bully by merely picking him up with one hand and throwing him 2 blocks away. I can even hear the sound effects as I did it daaa daa daaaa daaa. Or the soundtrack as I ran down the street doing my Steve Austin impression, da dadadada dada dadadada. I remember lying in bed as a kid trying to go to sleep and dreaming that I was being rebuilt, they had the technology, made me better, stronger, faster. Da dadadada dada dadadada zzzzzzzzzzzzz. Soon after came THE BIONIC WOMAN and I watched that show as well. I always wondered if they had kids if they would be bionic too. Later I found after growing up that even if they had bionics their backs would give out, even if the limbs could support the weight and what they did. Broken back? Not to worry we can make that bionic too. Wait no they didn't do that. Well years went by and finally my question was answered when they did THE BIONIC TV MOVIE starring all the favorites and more. Bionics was still cool and two more people became bionic. These new bionics were even better, stronger and faster. Made the originals look slow and old. Well they were. hehe Just kidding to the actors. So the next time you run down the street or go jogging remember the theme of THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN. What happened to Clockwork???
After the completion of our last album, "Surface Tension" we began work on the follow-up disc. It was evident from the start that things were just not happening for us. Writing the extremely technical tunes was becoming quite formulaic and we found ourselves just going through the motions, "two guitar solos per song, stay out of 4/4 as much as possible, blah blah blah." We decided it was time for some major changes.
We took a hiatus from the band and went our separate ways. By October of 1999 we had gotten back together, inspired and ready to work. At that point we decided, to reflect our new excitement about the band, that we would officially close the book on the Clockwork name. The next six months were spent putting the finishing touches on the new band. Leo Niederriter came onboard to replace Douglas Gillin on vocals and we added a full-time keyboardist, Josh Martin (who has played with Adrian Gaylsh and studied with Jordan Rudess). The new material for the first Target Earth album is coming along very well. We already have four songs done and many others in progress. I'm sure we won't disappoint!!!! :) The chemistry is far greater than anything we achieved in the Clockwork days. So, keep your ear to the ground for more news!!!

There was another lesser-known car show in the 80's that you might remember. It involved a super-hero which could change into a car at will. He would change into the car and would IMMEDIATELY be going 100 mph. It went so fast, you couldn't see the car, just the blue streak of light behind it. The funniest part about it is whenever he took a corner, he didn't have to slow down at all. The blue streak would just simply bend a perfect 90 degrees and he'd just keep on going.
What is this obscure TV show I'm referring to?

um, i vaguely remember he dug ditches and filled them with gasoline, and when the ants started getting across on drowned ants bodies, he set fire to the gasoline. i dunno if that was around the house or the plantation though, or if it was even macgyver, i suppose it could be an episode of some other show with a similar story :) my friend says he built a flame thrower and then blew up the dam, that sounds familiar too so i suppose he's right :)

'Listen' is out of print. If anyone finds copies of it, let the 'jam know. None of the standard vendors (Laser's Edge, MoreMetal, etc.) have it anymore. What a same - it's a great album, but I've only got it on CDR and I want the real thing. I've yet to try the Seigen Records site, but seeing as how it's the lable that released 'Listen', that might be the best bet...

It was 4 days :-)
Fasting is a thing Steve does from time to time, in order to "cleanse" himself. This sounds kind of looney, but until you try it, you can't really understand what it's like. After the 2nd-3rd day, there is absolutely nothing left in the body for the body to absolve, so it starts taking in bacteria and other enzymes that can be harmful and absorbs those, totally cleansing your system. Unfortunatly, if your not in the best of shape to begin with, your immune system will falter a bit in those few days.
If anyone is interested in trying it, start slowly first with 1 day of fasting, or 2 days. Some people do it for spiritual reasons, others do it for cleansing, others do it for self-discipline. I do it for the latter two, and sometimes because I just don't feel like eating. Sometimes when hunger pangs set it, it can be uncomfortable, but after about a half hour, you hardly remember. So get a good book, and try not to do too much as far as activities go. Drink water as well, that is allowed, (in my fasts, anyways), I take down 10-20 glasses a day, depending on how late I stay up. And now with my discovery of Fruit 2.O, I'll be drinking that.
As for the guitar part of my post, I noticed that after a while of listening to virtuosos, (Vai, Satch, Johnson, Petrucci, etc.), that the technical side of my playing started to come through, (I started using my pinky for once.....), although I never really sat down and started studying scales or modes. Here and there I'll sit down with a scale and/or mode chart, and start learning them, but I mainly stick with Lydian, Mixolydian, Dorian, Pentatonic and, Phrygian. I should really learn more, but at this point, I don't really use anything else or have the need to use any other scales.
I think the thing that helped me the most was playing with a band, plus different jazz bands around my school. Reading chord charts can be fun, depending on the song. Playing with a band is always fun. I never used to count while playing along with songs, but playing in a band has FORCED me to count or else it just wouldn't work. For some songs we play, I don't bother anymore, (middle section to "Burning My Soul" and some parts in "5 Minutes Alone", you hear em' and play em' so many times it's like 2nd nature).
Now with writing music, I think I've started to open up and realize that I don't need to write all these heavy riffs all the time, and it's ok to write something that sounds happy. Once I did that, it was easier for me to write something I really enjoyed working on, and the more I enjoy the song, the more apt I am to follow through with it. (Even though sometimes you just don't want the song to end and it goes and goes and goes and goes.....).
I think the whole theme is self discipline, so starve yourself for a few days and force yourself to play your guitar for 5 hours a day....it's fun!

Now what do I get? :) I only know this because we had to read that in 9th grade. Then the teacher subsequently made us watch the movie. hehehe. It's actually a good story, but in the 9th grade I was often too busy trying to look down Cheryl Pilkington's shirt to really admire a good tale and/or movie. ;)
Strangely, though, Flowers for Algernon and its subsequent movie Charly really caught my attention more than most. It just goes to show what a "loser" I was in Jr. High actually enjoying such literature. :) -- KorgX3 thinks the Ruum was the best of all.

Does anyone else here have the Singles soundtrack where the Smashing Pumpkins do this great 4 minute feedback thing at the end. The soundtrack serves as a good reminder that alternative really wasn't that bad at one stage.
