This may be true. But the other 4 guys like him and he sings good (in the studio, at least), so there's no room to discuss.

I think all 3 keyboardists were good, and all 3 fit on their respective albums. Kevin was probably the best songwriter and added a lot of theatrical-style emotion to the songs (Voices, Space-Dye Vest, Wait for Sleep), Derek was the most laid-back, giving them more of a relaxed & experimental vibe on FII and the live stuff, and Jordan is, hands-down, the most technically proficient, and in that respect the best soloist as well, which I believe is what DT is focusing on these days. Right now he best fits the direction they're headed in. Maybe next year it will be someone else.

God knows that's the most important aspect of a band...age differences. This is probably why DT isn't "making it" in commercial sales - obviously these guys don't know about the age rule, otherwise they never would've messed up by working with Tony Levin, either.

Wasn't he pretty much a stand-in for Kevin at that point? How much of that was his own contribution?
Anyway, none of it matters. Jordan has the job right now, and he's holding down the fort just fine. In fact, in my opinion, he stole the show at the SFAM show I saw in D.C.

I was fortunate enough to see the Yes/Kansas show at SPAC and it was amazing. Both
bands were great! Kansas did only two songs off of "Somewhere to Elsewhere" (which I hope
everyone has purchased!). Yes did the show I wanted. 8 songs in 2 hours! "Gates Of
Delirium" was the highlight and they started with "Close To The Edge". I could have lived
without hearing "All Good People" for the millionth time but that's no biggie. I got my
personalized Yes-Masterworks CD from Imix.com yesterday. Very cool!

ok...i COMPLETELY respect your opinion and am not questioning it, but just
out of curiosity, why is he an asshole? i dont know if you meant in the
music sense, meaning he is a bad musician, or in the sense that he is an
asshole as a person...but either way, id have to disagree. when i met james,
he was literally one of the nicest people id ever talked to (granted i only
talked to him for a minute or two). he seemed to have no ego about himself
and talked directly to me, not AT me.

so what if he's old? hes awesome! ;o) i agree with you that songs like
ACoS were soaked with emotion by derik, but jordan also seems to pour out
much of his soul into much of his playing. personally, i love jordans stuff.
besides- ACoS was not the FIRST album done with derik, like SFaM is by
jordan... if u werent happy with this album, give the poor man a chance! :o)
again- im not criticizing the person that wrote this, im just expressing my
opinion. :o)

After listening to many DT boots and going to 2 concerts, I have noticed
that James Labrie kind of sounds like a dork. Anybody else notice this?
Like he'll say something and his tounge will get tied and it'll just sound
dumb.
Like some of the stuff he says, he kind of sounds like my dad when he
attempts to be "hip" or "cool." I'm not trying to knock him for it. I
think its funny "come on orlando, shake your fuckin' bootie!" -haha
btw, buy a PC, mac's suck (how boring was that topic)

MARILLION ATTEMPT ANOTHER NET FIRST:
Some of you may recall Marillion's call to US fans via the Internet to help
raise funds to bring the band tot he US for some live dates. That call
worked exceptionally well and now they are taking up a new cause.
Marillion is asking their fans to pay for their next album over six months
in advance. Why? So they can free themselves of their record company and
make the music they want to make, paid for by the loyalty and money of the
fans whom the record is intended.
Anyone who orders the CD by the end of this month gets a limited 2 CD

Hey guys, something interesting I just picked up within the last month is a
leatherbound version, containing all 5 parts of the trilogy - unabridged!
Plus it has this little thing before mostly Harmless called "Young Zaphod
Plays It Safe." Dunno what it is (haven't read it yet), or if that's what
Marko is referring to, but it's a pretty nice copy to have. I picked it up
at Waldenbooks for roughly $17. I swear this thing looks like a Bible,
complete with bookmark ribbon except that the paper it's printed on isn't as
nice. Still worth getting, IMO.

Am I the only one following this? What everyone is trying to say but
missing it is that prog-ROCK has been around since the 70's. Enter Rush,
King Crimson et. all.
prog-METAL was born in the 80's, Queensryche and Dream Theater.
I'm no expert on the subject, I am just trying to clarify the arguments.

---and the MAC topic. No one can change a PC users mind about a Mac, you have to experience it for yourself. I detested Macs(because I was unfamiliar with them) up until 3 months ago when I got a job that involved using one for 40 hours a week.(I am a graphic designer)
I just purchased my first one for home this week. I will never go back to that Bill Gates infested system they call the PC. MACs are at least 1-2 years ahead of the PC in the performance area. And for compatibility, MACs can do everything(and more) a PC can but not vice versa. We can even run WindBLOWS 2000 if we choose. Can a PC run any MAC programs? I think not, that would put a dent in Bill Gates monopoly of the market. In the PC users mind they are better. My thoughts: They aren't better, they have just dominated the market for so long that everyone is comfortable.
And the last thing, MAC users slide in under the radar on the whole Napster issue, the MAC equivalent (Macster) has yet to be mentioned. Take that Lar$.
Which brings me to my last point. In this whole PC/Mac debate, why is this even a topic...I thought PROG fans were open-minded?

Go for 'Cheap Thrills' or 'Son of Cheep Thrills' They're both only 1 cd, and pretty cheap ( no pun intended ) Only 7 or 8 bucks. Even less than 1 SFaM. 'Sheik Yerbouti' is also a great album, but i'd save that one for if you ever get into the guy. Its musically great, but very weird, and the lyrics are can be very offensive if your not a zappa fan.

Jesus Christ, Mike - the topic is "Musical classifications"!!! There is no "right or wrong" when it comes to this stuff. Feel free to serve us with your opinion, but don't go spouting off about what EXACTLY entails a genre. There is as much grey area in musical genres as there is grey stuff on your tongue. Also, you didn't mention who you're referring to, so in effect, you've just called the entire mailing list "wrong".
To many people, when you start a message out with "No, you're wrong" often they won't bother to even read the rest of it because a person with enough gall to say such a thing (when talking about music genres) also usually doesn't have a clue as to what he's saying.
Dude, all I'm saying is throw in a "The way I see it..." or a simple "IMHO". Oh wait - lemme guess - you don't know what that means. It means "In My Humble Opinion". I have to remember that there are some people out there who are incapable of distinguishing their mere opinion from an absolute fact.
Don't get me wrong - there are certainly "rights and wrongs" in this world and an e-mail starting out with the words "No, you're wrong" would be certainly appropriate in many arenas. Music classification is NOT one of them.
