Message-ID: <000d01bfddc5$608fdd00$44f51dc3@sasha>
hello!
I downloaded Smoke On The Water (with Napster, shoot me :-) which is
supposedly performed by (get this) Bruce Dickinson and Dream Theater... if
you do a search on Napster (artist: dickinson, song: smoke) this is the
exact same result you'll get... It doesn't sound as DT to tell you the truth
although i can be wrong... I think i hear Dickinson singing the 2nd verse
but I'm not positive. So, can anyone clear this up for me? Oh, yea, I
definately hear 2
guitars here...
By the way, there are a few complete videos by Spock's Beard among others
available for download at http://www.throttlebox.com . So far I've
downloaded "Mirror, Mirror" by Blind Guardian, "Liberty Bell" by The
Gathering, Arch Enemy etc... there is some Steve Morse and Dixie Dregs
stuff... just take a look.
Oh... would someone be kind enough to send me the lyrics to We All Need Some
Light by Transatlantic? I couldn't find the cd anywhere here, so I had to
order it from States and it'll take some time until it arrives. I have an
mp3 of WANSL (as i said earlier, go ahead and shoot me :-)) the alternative
mix version with Roine on vocals and I can't figure out what's he singing
half of the time... and I searched all over the Web but I couldn't find it.
So, please? :-)
NP: guess what... Bruce Dickinson & Dream Theater - Smoke On the Water.mp3

YES! Do It! This is such a good idea. Especially the suggestion of putting
the whole Paris, Rotterdam and Ronnie Scotts shows on there. These shows and
the additional footage from 5YIALT from the 'Director's Cut' would make this
an attractive package. Is there any more studio footage from the Awake
sessions that could be added though because there was hardly anything from
this era on the original video.
I can't see the record company going for this release because DVD isn't
widely used enough yet, well not here in England anyway. Maybe it is time for
the ytsejam to take some action with Elektra in the form of a petition? It
worked before.....................

Anyone know when tickets for, say, the DC show (and any others)
are going on sale? Ticketmaster has up the 8/4 Philly show, the
8/7 Cincinnati show, and the 8/10 Chicago show, but NOT the 8/5
DC show. Any ideas what's up?

stuff, thus helping you with speed and accuracy, but its also fun. check out
JP's instructional video "rock dicipline." there are some really cool
exercises on it that will really help you. i hope this bit of info helped!

Okay Josh, here is why everyone thinks that poor little one armed drummer is
so cool. He uses electic drums, and if he is using an acoustic setup, they
have electric triggers in them so that when a faster part comes up in a
tune, he can just turn on the auto-roll feature of any basic electric drum
kit and boom, one fill done. He is a drummer who uses more electonic
shortcuts and backdrops in the music than you can imagine. Don't get me
wrong, it is pretty cool that he still can play, but only with one arm, I am
just saying that it is not necessarily the coolest thing I have seen in the
drumworld. He takes a lot out of the playing. >>
Actually though, on the Slang CD Rick Allen went to playing an actual real
kit instead of that electronic thing. A lot of people don't realize this.
However, he went back to the electronic one on the Euphoria CD due to the
band trying to do a Hysteria-like album again.

thought the name was intriquing, didn't sound like your average Bar Band.

Air-guitar is actually more strenuous on the forearm and hand muscles than
playing an actual guitar. Do more air-guitar. Practice your techniques
without a guitar. You'll look silly but it will keep your arm and brain
primed for action! Sort of like how you can throw your shoulder out of whack
by swinging a machete through the air really hard, but striking actual plants
and small puppy dogs can be done for hours without pulling a muscle. The path
of least resistance is harder to maintain, but the benefits are almost the
same.
There's another technique good for maintaining speed, but I'll leave the
descriptions to the master, KorgX3, and his apprentice, Pee-Wee Herman.
Typing on a computer keyboard works the tendons, plus your fingers are moving
across objects almost the same size as frets. Both guitar playing and typing
can give you nasty carpal tunnel syndrome, which means those activities
center around the same muscle groups. Typing won't make you a faster guitar
player overall, because you still have PICKING to worry about, but as a daily
activity it will keep your fingers moving and flexable.
Conclusion: become a computer nerd who does lots of air guitar and your hands
will never realize they've left a fretboard.
And if all else fails, fear not, for no matter how little you practice your
solos will never reach the depths of Kirk Hammett's.
Sincerely,
Bafu Vai

The greatest hope for musicians is that they all read "Atlas Shrugged," pack

Message-ID: <35A7D40B978CD311AF05002048404D34024B19E0@wm2.btrd.bostontechnology.com>
Having recently "upgraded" to the Jap version of the "Through Her Syes" CD
single, I have the original Euro version in excess to my needs. It is for
sale for $US 12, postpaid via Priority. First come, first served. I am
reliable as I am old, feeble-minded and too confused and disoriented to fuck
anyone over.
For what it matters, I suckered for the Jap version when I saw that it was
in the normal jewel box instead of the slimmer CD single box as well as the
promise for a lot of live pictures. Of course, there had to be a bonus
20-page booklet of pictures to warrant the normal CD jewel box, right ??
Well, to be blunt, I am underwhelmed as the extra pictures aren't
significant at all and even fit onto a single page. And the radio edit of
"Home" (the extra Jap song) is a useless yet humorous attempt to hack a
brilliant song into a radio-friendly piece of crap. In short, dont waste
your money on the Jap version of this CD single.
Quick review of the Transatlantic show in Boston. Really cool to see 3/4 of
the band having a lot of fun. This was the first time that I ever saw Neil
play live and I was truly impressed at both his professionalism as well as
his voice. (As an aside, kind of nice in a concert not having to wonder if
James will hurt the ears of small animals with his screeches.) The fact
that Neil seemed to be a sincere individual was not lost. And, it is cool
that really TITS musicians can look like appliance salesmen (Mark now
prepares for hell in return .....) !! Too bad that the keys were searching
for their life in the mix too frequently. Pete really seemed into things
kind of like at the Fish-era shows of Marrilion, although a bit nervous.
Of course, I am a true fan of MP both as a musician and as a person and
while he clearly needs to lose that propeller hat, he was still cool
although I could sense that playing "within the context" of the rest of this
thing seemed to make him itch, he was able to let loose a bit on the final
medley. For the life of me, I could not figure out what Ronnie was doing
though. Seemed really in the ozone. Possibly still jet-lagged or
something. Maybe I am just not a fan of the "noodling aimlessly" style of
guitar playing. Me wonders why Jim wasn't part of TA. So sorry.
Highlights indeed were Firth of Fifth and the fact that they didn't suffer
through the cover on the CD (forget the name). Although the purist in me
didn't appreciate the "Watcher" intro teaser to FoF. Cool to see MP in a
more relaxed environment than DT, even at the expense of a less tight
sounding group, overall. And, they deserved better sound. Funny item = I
almost blurted out "I buried Sherinian" at the end of Strawberry Fields.
Dont know why, but it was tempting. Probably would have become a cult hero
on those bootlegs, eh ?? But, alas, no balls, no glory.

I have to agree. I'm one of those people who is a closet fan of
Cocacabana or however the hell you spell it even if he is a stooge.
They've been advertising his PPV on Direct TV this month and his stage
antics remind me WAY too much of Martin Short trying to act cool. Ever
see Innerspace? I rest my case.

You betcha, baby! ;) People are often astonished at my ambidexterity,
though. I give both arms a good workout nightly. I love playing with my
instrument. There's nothing like when the nuts actually do their job when
you're cranking hard on your whammy bar.
