It seems that DT fans in general are not that big fans of the mellower

Dunno if that was in jest or not, but if that's your first exposure to
Vai, I would suggest picking up Alien Love Secrets. Hopefully this won't
start a huge "no, you should start with...." Most people would
recommending Passion & Warfare, but I personally think that ALS just has a
better overall picture of little Stevey Vai's talents....

What a stupid logic! So what, let's charge 3000$ for a stone doll
souvenir? It will last far more than used CD no?
And I'm really sick of that "CDs are immortal" stuff. That's bullshit.
No matter how much you take care of it, after a while there will be tiny
lil' lines of scrathes on the surface. And it takes only 2, 3 dropping
out from hands to do permanent fatale damage on part of the CD.
Fingerprints, filthy hands, dust ... I even think CDs are more harmful
than tapes. Heck, you can throw around tapes ans still play 'em. :)
Speaking of this, .. isn't it possible to put over extra protective
layer above the data surface of the CD?

Errr, ... I dunno the financial standard you guys have over there, but
40$ is really quite a bit. :(
Here, ... the DT show I'll go at Budapest was told to me , the ticket is
35 DM, ... which is also not cheap for here, but I'll do it gladly. Plus
I'll have extra expenses for the trip to get there. But only ticket
costing 85-90 DM, ... brrrr.
And I hope noone will come up with the clever words: "If you don't have
the money, cut the music out!"

I did many times by pluging the VCR directly into line out of the sound
card.
You mean, would you have better sound quality if it goes thru the
streeo? Ummm, while I'm not expert but I think not. The quality is as it
is, ... maybe little noise cleaning the WAV will make things better but
other than that ...
Hey, while on the topic, .. my fine stereo is in the living room and my
PC in my room. I want to connect them so that I can listen the mp3s on
my stereo and also rip somehting on the PC from the stereo. Since
messing around with music in part of my life I think this is a must be.
No, I can't bring the 2 devices on same location so I gotta do it like
this.
I just wanted to ask of I will have interefernces or signal loss , since
the distance is ummm maybe 7-9 meters. I don't think, but I'd relly on a
professional opinion too. So?

Sounds like Frank Sinatra on vocals; this is the best
thing since sliced bread!!!!!! Kicks the I&W version up
the street, round the corner and all over town!
I never really appreciated the REAL UAGM until I heard this one, actually.
Now I love it =^). There's also a Sinatra-ized version of Lines in the Sand,
but it's pretty cheesy sounding.

Well, I'm not a professional... no, wait, I am. But I work on the
digital side of things. :-) Anywho...
I really wouldn't think so, unless you're dealing with a truly piss-
poor sound card (low sensitivity or input impedance). The cable and
the line-level source really shouldn't matter. You'll most likely have
an order of magnitude more noise from the soundcard itself than from
a little 30-foot cable run.
The problem you will* have is a ground loop; 60 Hz hum resulting
from the stereo and computer being on different outlets with different
ground potential (voltage). Disconnecting the ground for either the
computer or the stereo isn't safe, so you may need to run an extension
cord of some sort and plug the computer into the same wall socket(s) as
the stereo. That's not the only way around it, but it's the simplest.
*- ok, not for sure, the outlets might be at the same ground potential.
But that's not overly likely.

One question that I have is does this version of Comfortably Numb have
anything over any of the subsequently released live versions ?? While I
love the song, I feel that it was perfected at the end of Gilmour's About
Face solo tour (not the beginning and I was at both ends). This perfection
was a lot later then this recording. Is this any good ?? Note that I am a
huge Floyd fan who doesn't think that the Wall was one of their top five
efforts. Animals is at the top of the tree for me.

way back in the day, that day being the heyday of Debbie (sorry, Deborah)
Gibson and Kylie Minough, an older (read: teenage) friend ripped said female
'artists' for being too "commercial." At the time, I had no idea what she
meant by that, and I don't think I really figured it out for a long time,
years really.
way back two days ago, this list saw mention of Magna Carta discs as being
poorly produced, lacking guitar punch, and once again, I find myself not
understanding what exactly is being meant by that. Some have tried to
disperse my ignorance before, and failed (probably my fault, stone ears and
all)....this time, I want specific instances, times if possible, and
comparison album/segments, so i, a poor non-musician, might be able to
figure out what the hell guitar tone/production is all about.

To those people who believe Jordan is a flawless god, you have not heard the
huge mistake he made in the live version of home in the through her eyes
single. In the middle section, instead of starting his solo when he's
supposed to, he starts a measure early!!! I don't know if somebody has said
this before, but I was in shock when I heard him come in before he was
supposed to. That had to have been a mistake, because it didn't sound cool,
as if he had done it on purpose.

Yeah, metalheads and elitist progwhores are a deadly combination, no doubt.

For the record, I think Hollow Years is one of about three songs on FII that
are actually good...there's also about three that really suck liquid shit,
which I'll leave for you to decide, I'll just give this small hint: Portnoy
is a cool guy and a hell of a drummer, but he should leave lyrics to people
who...umm...how to say it diplomatically...don't suck. ;P

It has a lot of the scenes that got axed from the theatrical version of the film. These extra touches would've given the film an X rating. The rating would've been given b/c of violence, not b/c of sex, so don't get the wrong idea.
My only real gripe with the disc is that the jacket describes the film as being "a violently entertaining comedy". Methinks that whomever wrote that has never seen the movie. But there ya go, the disc is very much worth your time and cash to get, should you get a DVD plater. I love it. Oh yeah, I watch DVDs on my PC with my trusty DVD-ROM. You may want to invest in one since they're only a $100 or so. Not a great price, but better than the alternative of paying $300 or so for a full set up. And it works great for me since I obviously take my computer with me when I move out of my parents house, so that means I'll always be ready to watch DVDs. ;o)

I assume you're asking about the Criterion DVD that was issued a year or so ago. It's the director's cut of the film, which means that a fair amount of gore has been added back into the film. There also a couple of additional scenes, I think. There's also a bunch of documentary stuff about the making of the film, and a director's commentary. I actually have an extra copy of this (still in shrink-wrap) if any DVD owner is interested. Make offers off the list.

I heard a blurb about a movie that's in preproduction called "Metal God." It's supposed to be about the life of Ripper Owens, and Dirk Diggler (his real name escapes me) is supposed to be in the title role. I heard this on the radio at about 5:15 AM. Has anyone else heard about this? It could be extremely cool if it's true.

DTC - I saw a JM signature bass in Mars Music in Orlando while we were waiting for Portnoy and Morgenstein to make their grand entrance. I didn't play it - I was scared to take a $1,000 bass off the wall. But it sure looked pretty.

I actually like their second album, "One Hour By the Concrete Lake", MUCH better than "Entropia" - it seems more focused, cohesive, and emotional to me. Well worth seeking out and picking up.
I wonder what their next one will sound like? :)

Unless the stuff is totally destroyed, it sounds like quite the steal. The tubes for the 5150 are about $200-$250 new, so draw your own conclusions.
BTW, if those are Celestion loaded ADA 2-12's, and you don't want them, drop me a line - I've been looking for a pair of those for cheap. :)

Well, their singer did tell me before the show that a buddy of his had located a vintage Vegas-Elvis-style jumpsuit for him that he was picking up on his trip out west later this year. He's going to wear that for a show sometime, and I made him promise to let me know. So he has a fashion sense - it's just not a sense regularly associated with being human...
BTW, that band (Drivelink) has improved tremendously. I won't go as far as to say I like their stuff - not my thing - but they're at least competent at it, as far as that goes. He does sound like Danzig, though. :)

Thanks. I think the negative connotations the new songs had before was a result of our fill-in drummer not really knowing them - those songs sound much more like Division now.
My favorite part of the set was some dude yelling "It's nice to hear real metal instead of that Korn bullshit!" That made my night. :)

During check they were saying that if the delay didn't have exactly two repeats, Chuck was going to be pissed. Normally, I just blow off singers being pissed, 'cause they're usually little shits. Not in this case, however. :)

Hey, I know my limitations - one song's about it, at least on the nights we play. I'd say it was a wimpy crowd, but I figure most of the really hardcore types got thrown out early. The Security caused more problems than it solved - unusual, because that company's usually good.
All in all, it was fun. Now we just need that many people at Armored Saint...
