That won't change anything. For starters, parentheses are allowed in filenames. But even if you have a title with backslashes and colons and all that stuff you're not allowed to have in a filename, a CD ripper will just change them to characters that ARE allowed.

<< I'm probably gonna get flamed for this, but I'm sick of people on the Jam assuming that bands are necessarily ripping of DT whenever they have something similar to what was on a DT album. DT is not the center of the musical universe. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Sully from Godsmack, who practices witchcraft and writes music that is fairly disimilar to DT, has never heard of them. I'll just bet that there have been albums called "Awake" long before DT came into existence. Just as there have been albumes called "V," etc. >>

Sully is actually a Dream Theater fan. He's one of the first person's to introduce me to Dream Theater a while back. In a Metal Edge mag from a couple years back, he spoke of the band a little bit.

Thought this might be of interest: Just had a mail from Hudson Music who released MP's Liquid Drum Theater video earlier this year saying:

"There are ongoing discussions with Mike about releasing a book of transcribed performances form several recordings. So please keep an eye on our site."

Their Hompage is www.hudsonmusic.com

Hope this goes ahead as about all you can get drum tab for is Met***ica!

I'm just listening to the Majesty demos and still reckon that JP's solo on A Vision sums up his playing style really well (I don't think the re-record, Indulge in a Reverie, is as good). What about anyone else's thoughts on this?

Just took delivery of a Kramer 422S/D - NICE!

This is Jazz Club signing off

Mm. I wondered if anybody else was going to pick up on this. Heh. Two months ago, Playboy, this month, Maxim. Am I moving up in the world or down? :)

You're not mistaken, Andrew. The Godhead guys are currently opening for Marilyn Manson, which should help get 'em some more exposure. Nov. 7th at the Tabernacle in Atlanta. Anybody else going?

Ozric Tentacles hits the Variety Playhouse tomorrow night. Look for me in the front row, with a DT SFAM tour shirt on. (Pellaz, you don't count; you'll probably be on the tour bus before the show anyway. Bastard). :)

Okay, am I clinically thick, or what? I've never heard of this band and yet everybody in the "metal" world seems to look on them as deities-on-a-stick or something. Metal Sludge calls them the band that everybody else ripped off. Please tell me I'm not alone in not knowing who the fuck these people are.

Hey, I know this has already been posted but my post didn't go through on the 26th of Oct. Major props to Maxim for including DT in their November issue. In the readers letters section, Phil Carter from Atlanta, Ga. (is he on the jam?) wrote about Steve Vai and his guitar sound. He went on about " . . .Dream Theater's Awake. Both Vai and Dream Theater's John Petrucci were taking advantage of the seven-string's heavy sound and larger range long before Korn and Limp Bizkit . . .but Petrucci and Vai are virtuosos." It may be only a little side note but it does get the DT name out on the pages of one of the hottest mags out now. If your on here, Phil, you brought a smile to my face when I read that. See ya, Todd "I sit down with my son, Set to see the Crimson Sunset."

Hey, Sorry to post twice but I wanted a separate post for this. I was just thinking how original DT is/was/are, and for some reason, their album titles came to mind. I think it takes a lot of originality to have all your album titles be unique from all the lists of songs on the album. Look at the 5 studio releases, (not counting ACoS because it is a single/EP as far as I am concerned) all of them have original & cool titles. None of the self-titled or first single off the album titles like most of the other bands. That is yet another quality that makes them stand out. Then I started coming up with only a few others that are in the same category. I was looking at bands with 3 or more albums to date. Guns N' Roses had 5 albums. White/Rob Zombie also has 3 & them some remixed albums. And I believe even the Bizkit has 3 albums too. I couldn't think of any off the top of my head & I haven't look at my Cds yet. Just some more useless crap to think about. See ya, Todd "I sit sown with my son, Set to see the Crimson Sunset."

Fozzy is a joke cover band featuring WWF star (and DT fan) Chris Jericho on vocals with a backing band made up of most of Stuck Mojo. Their gimmick is that, due to a bad record deal that stranded them in Japan for twenty years, all their songs were somehow ripped off and recorded by others in the States (Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, Ozzy, etc.) Their album is pretty good, actually -- Jericho has a great voice for metal, and all the covers are very energetic and well done overall.

Probably the reason he posted this was that an e-mail only just recently went out to those of us on Jordan's Medius Vision mailing list. This was actually news to me as well, as I haven't been online very much in the last few months and hadn't checked up on Jordan's site since the OC went up. Anyway, I went tonight and checked it out ... very good stuff, even for those of us who play an instrument other than keys. My respect and admiration for this guy never ceases to grow.

Yep, that is correct. Also, the intro to Puppies On Acid is called A Crack= In The Mirror. They used to play that Puppies-thing as an intro to ,for exampl= e, Take The Time and later to Just Let me Breathe.

Godhead it is. Not Godsmack, Godheadsilo, God Lives Underwater, or Godspeed. :) (And yea, the goth/techno/industrial cover of "Eleanor Rigby" is by Godhead.)

Any speculation that Godhead is kicking Marilyn Manson's ass on the current tour is just that: speculation. --But one hears things from people who've never heard of Godhead before, who are Napstering down Godhead MP3's after seeing the show.... :)

Hi guys. I've been a member of this list for a while now and I sincerely apologize for this brief off-topic request. Rest assured that this will be my ONLY post on this subject, but I feel strongly enough about it that I think the Liberal-minded people of the U.S. need to at least hear about it.

Find out how, by simply voting strategically, you can assure BOTH that Gore wins the US Presidential election and that Ralph Nader wins the 5% needed for federal funding for an independent party.

It's a win-win situation!!!

A vote for Nader is NO LONGER a vote for Bush! Long live the Internet!

Hehe

Actually I did here on some metal site that Godsmack strarted out as an AIC cover band, then started writing their own stuff. Pretty sad, and they probably have sold better than AIC ever did.

Speaking of AIC, Dec 5th they are releasing a live album.

One final question to all jammers:

Am I the only person who does NOT use napster?

Well, you sound like a jerk. I'm a bid DT fan, but I've heard most of the other "progmetal" bands people are always jizzing over, and most of them are just plain boring in my opinion. The six bands that you mentioned, as far as I'm concerned, are all total stiffs. There's some cool guys in some of those bands, but musically...well, if you find emotion in it, or you just enjoy the technicality of it, more power to ya, but if you're trying to say that those of us who don't care about these bands are just ignoramuses lost in the woods, or have no taste, or something, then, well, I guess all I can do is cordially invite you to shove your keyboard up your ass and smile.

I think you are thinking about the online notation and files that went with Jordan's videos.

The Online Conservatory is something completely different. It is like the video, but 10X the info. Plus, there will be chances to actually chat with Jordan every month or so to discuss the lessons.

The Online Conservatory has just come online in the last day. Yesterday was the first day you could actually pay for it and see its contents. So, yeah, it is something completely different than what you were thinking.

Go check it out. It is very cool.
