My friend recently lent me a CD called "The Rising Tide" by a
band named "Sunny Day Real Estate". My friend said it was something
like Queensryche meets Rush in Jon Anderson's living room. I like it,
but I'd say it's more like Radiohead meets Fates Warning in Matthew
Parmenter (from Discipline) and Kula Shaker's living room. :-)
In any case, it's good stuff. The music has a pretty
cool atmosphere (kind of like Radiohead's Kid A or Floyd but with
heavier guitar, hence the Fates comparison). There aren't a lot of
obvious melodic leads but the overall music and vocals keeps my attention
anyway. I enjoy the vocals which are somewhat strange but compelling
with cool harmonies to make things interesting. I'd recommend checking
them out.
