    Hey.

I was reading a weekly newspaper "NYT" that comes with Finland's
biggest daily newspaper "Helsingin Sanomat" every Friday and
there was an article about name changing - you know, when you're
not happy with your last name you can change it by paying FIM
    500 ($75).

There was a list of names that are popular amongst the name
changers in Finland. Lots of cool Finnish names (Sadepilvi,
Hopeapuro, Aamutuuli), and then, all of a sudden there's
PORTNOY. I just ROTFed when I read this. It made me suspect
that the guy who wrote the article is a DT fan or are there really
many people who want to get Mike's name here... It really stood
out from the rest of the list. And one of the smaller headings on the
page says "Portnoy, päivää!" = "Portnoy, good afternoon!" :-)

The people that say "What's the point of a live concert in 5.1?" have
obviously never heard/seen the Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" concert in
    DTS. Simply incredible.

But i'm just bitter because while some people were buying DVD players to
enjoy the new DT DVD, i was upgrading my system with a Denon 3801 DD/DTS-ES
receiver and NHT speakers to enjoy the new DT DVD. :)

Hi fellas, I'm sure some of you already got the mp.com newsletter already,
but if you didn't, than you should know that there has been what we
scientists like to call a screw up, and some of the pal dvds were made not
from the already made NTSC dvds, but from an older version, which still
contains some time code. Notice that this does not effect you all, but I
would like to know if anyone who bought it at blackstar, noticed anything.

Thank you, I was going to post something on this subject as well. I was quite peeved at finding out certain things about the DVD, when it could all have been taken care of with a simple spoiler warning. I love how inconsiderate people are.

No offense man, but some of you are way too oversensitive about the whole spoiler thing... if you feel so strongly about not knowing anything about the DVD then dont read those posts that *dont* contain *no spoiler* warnings ;)

Anyways, i havent read anythign on the posts that could be considered spoilers aside from

    *******************SPOILERS**************

the stuff about the zooming and the bonus tracks, stuff that if you had read any of the messages from mike you would know that is on the DVD!

Again, no offense, but is there really a need to know *NOTHING* about something youre going to buy? Does knowing track names and bonus tracks and stuff going to ruin your experience? i mean for real...

Wow... these kinds of questions will get very personal responses from people. So here we go... To me a singer fits when the voice isn't annoying to me and keeps me wanting to hear what he/she has to say/sing next.. No such thing to me as overplaying on guitar!! The more the better personally. With as much odd-time signature music I listen to, it's hard to tell if the rhythm is off balance.. heh heh If there's more than 2 ballad (slow) types of songs on the CD, to me it ain't rockin'... Two ballads are my limit, and that's by personal choice... heh Are there more than one type of metal song? Yeah! There's tons of metal song types. Can't even begin on that one. A complete singer....that's a tough one. Singers have a style and various styles. To be a complete group, each musician should demonstrate talent in their area. I like to hear a singer that can cover a large range of notes and keep me interested in the next verse.. I like to hear a bass player who can keep the bass groove going and add tasteful extra notes. I like to hear keys that can keep up with the guitar, hold their own without the guitar, and build a solid background of chords. I like the guitarist to be able to keep steady crunchy rhythm while also soloing with finesse and control. Excess notes just for excess is not always desirable. I like to hear a drummer that can hold down the steady beat and change the signature on a dime. Also keeping busy inbetween beats with various percussion. Hmmm I may have rambled a bit too long on this one. hahah!

completely agree. granted, if someone had gone through song by song, special feature by special feature, and described it all to us, then i could understand being a little pissed. but come on: audio information, the fact that there *is* bonus stuff, and whoa you can zoom too........hardly worth getting your panties in a twist over.

Most of the shirts that have been ordered so far went out today, that's the good news. And they look real purty. The slightly bad news: the shop made a little error with the white shirts, and instead of being black and purple on white, they're black and dark tan on white. They look pretty cool, but it's not what was ordered, so i'm just going to send them out anyway, and if anyone wants the original design I will replace it free of charge. I might as well get rid of these if I can though, and you might even like it more. Just let me know if you want the purple-ink one and I will take care of it.

Also, instead of a girl's medium black shirt, all the girl shirts are small. Now, it would take 3 of these to fit me, but maybe it'll look good on you ytse-babes. As above, try it on, if it's too small let me know and I'll have some mediums made.

That said, here is a current list of sizes/colors available:

    White XL White XXL

Black XL Black XXL Black XXXL Black XXXXL Black M Black L Black Girl's Small

Yellow XL Yellow XXL Yellow M Yellow L Yellow S

There are plenty of XL and XXL, the other sizes are in pretty small quantities. There are 5 each of the white shirts, 10 total.

Please feel free to let me know what's on your mind, and thanks all for ordering. -josh

<As of today, all PAL versions of the DVD are being recalled..... They will be remastered with the director approved transfer and a new release date will be announced ASAP....(none of this effects the US release) Here's the info the label sent me this morning: 1. Warner Vision has put a hold on all finished stock in the local distribution companies, including those that have shipped and have not shipped and they will be recalled to the plant and then destroyed

    2. Warner Vision is destroying all finished discs at the plant

    3. Warner Vision is asking all retailers with stock to refrain from selling this package and will replace all with finished stock when ready

    4. Warner Vision replace all consumer purchased copies with new version when available

If and when there is any further info or press releases from the label, I will pass it on..

Well, I guess it IS true that you can't please everybody. Dream Theater releases their very first DVD, and yet ppl still moan about how it's mixed. "Oh man, it's only in stereo.......WAAAAAAAAAAAH!" Dream Theater goes out of their way to please us fans, more so than a lot of other bands, and sometimes I feel we are the most ungrateful. Sorry to whine about whiners, but it pisses me off to see this.

    >Im hearing on the mp.com board that the PAL version has a problem with >being out of sync. Cancel all preorders. >

I was wondering , because I thought it was going out of sync a number of times. But I am playing on a DVD ROM on a P200 (with a DXR 3 board)and I have had sync problems on other films and especially at points on Metallica's Cunning Stunts. Maybe it's just my computer.

    >No signs of any video/audio sync problems in the first 20 minutes >anyway... I'm hoping mine is free of the "bug". >

Let me know Graham how you get on - if you notice anyhting amiss, and what you think of the hypnotist!

My other point is - why not a double DVD ;) Then we could have got all the concert on (not just a paltry two and a half hours!) and maybe some camera angle choices as well.

Ah well, there's always next time!

    Cheers

    Doug

Well i disagree, although im am thoroughly psyched about it, and im going to buy it whenever its out, i am dissapointed that its not going to be at least *up to par* with current DVD audio standards. I am very thankful they are going to release this DVD, but still, its not like we cant critizice, we *are* going to be paying for a product, its not like theyre just doing this out of their heart's will and giving it away to *true fans who are not going to bitch about it not being 5.1* Its a comercial product thats going to be sold, since im going to be paying for it, i have some expectances about it... nothign wrong with that.... --

then tim posted: I picked that up about a month ago. I really didn't "get into it" at first either. Now that I've had it for a while, I listen to it all the time. Its very progressive (to use everybodys' favorite adjective). The more I listened to it the more depth I heard to the sound. There's a lot going on...hard to tap the foot. -Tim

and i say that the album is amazing. the first track "used" sounds too industrial to many. But its the way that these elements are used that make it very groundbreaking to those of us that are stuck in our "pull me under" worlds. i had no problems tapping my foot to it. and thats saying something, considering that i barely get into most music these days. oh yeah - if anyones looking for emotion and powerful lyrics - please do yourself a favour and check these guys out.

    and im spent.
