The show was at the Station last night in picturesque West Warwick Rhode Island. It seems that some guy had extra space in his living room and converted it into a live venue....

We got there at 7, because thats when the show was "supposed" to start. They couldn't find my name on the list of ppl who bought tickets online, but I'll hand it to the crew who works there, they told me no problem, they'd find it, which they did before the show. We got to enjoy the soundchecks for both savatage and fates, including a very cool APSOG check.

At 9ish the first band went on. Slight of Mind. Not that bad, just not my kinda singing style. Funny thing, the drummer decides to whip his drumsticks into the crowd after the first song and absolutely nails this guy in head with it. Also, the place was so small that the band was literally hidden behind shit and the singer was precariously balanced on 2 speakers in the front.. I'll give those guys credit though, they did a great job with what they were given.

Then after almost 20 minutes of waiting they brought on fates..

Incredible, all I can say.. :) been waiting 4 years to see them and they did not disappoint. I do wish that their set could have been longer, but oh well.

We didn't stay for savatage because we had already driven into NY that day and were tired and ready to get back to Salem MA.

I got to speak with the newest member of Fates, Sean somethingorother. He's been playing with them for 7 days and doesn't show it. He was very cool to talk to.

A couple of funny notes. The Station had the bands listed as Sabatage and Faites Warning..... So sad... They also announced that Planet X would be playing there and Derek Shehanihan would be a part of it LOL.....

Beyond that it was a very good show...

Oh and props to the d0od from the list wearing his mailing list shirt and a red sox hat.

I recently bought the Amorphis "Tales From The Thousand Lakes" re-release on Relapse (includes the "Black Winter Day" EP and a Doors cover) and, consequently, I've got an older version of this awesome death/prog/Finnish-folk-fusion album (i.e. sans bonus tracks) to unload. $5, including postage (within the US). Drop me an E-mail if you're interested: wbhender@cs.millersville.edu.

FREE STUFF: I mentioned this before, but I'll do it again (after all, who can stop me? muahahaha...). My radio station's giving away copies of a bunch of albums, including OPETH "Blackwater Park", CATASTROPHIC "The Cleansing", and RAMMSTEIN "Mutter", as well as the SAVATAGE "Drive" single (from the new album), lots of posters, stickers, and other assorted metalcrud. Want a (pretty damn good) chance at this stuff? Go to http://www.wixq.com/metal/ and enter the contest. Ends May 7.

It was Monday night April 23. The time was 11:45PM and I was standing in line at a local record store with a CD in my hand. The CD was the second helping of Bozzio, Levens, and Stevens. I was in line to get the latest NEW RELEASE, Dream Theater: Metropolis 2000: Scenes from New York. I received my copy at around 12:05AM April 24th and now it was time to drive home ASAP and view what I had seen in concert. I arrived home and decided to listen to the CD. Afterwards I was pleased with the CD and found that it was now close to 3AM and I needed to crash, but I couldn't. At least not yet. I inserted the DVD into the player and it began.... Tick..Tock..Tick..Tock..Tick..Tock. I watched the first couple of tracks, but it was late and I couldn't CRANK IT UP!!!!! and the person in the apartment above me was up and it was now close to 4AM. I shut everything off and crashed. Now it's Tuesday at noon. The neighbors are at work and I can now enjoy Dream Theater CRANKED UP!!! again it begins....Tick..Tock..Tick..Tock..Tick..Tock..... I will say that Mike put a lot of time into this and did a HELL of a job. Hats off to you :) As for the show.....it was nothing less than perfection or what I expected from Dream Theater and more. They always add something to surprise the fan. Simply put..........AAAAAAWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! I read that someone cried in a scene. I can't say that I cried cause for one it wouldn't be man like and another I didn't actually cry. I did understand the story much better watching the DVD and found that where she was talkin made me sad and watery eyed, but damnit I never shed a tear. I won't tell you anything about the DVD cause that would ruin it for those who don't want to know. Simply put though for Dream Theater fans....Go and get it now........Go on........hurry back...I'll be waiting here...................Still waiting...................... ok that was fast. Now go watch it....I'll wait.................... ......(hour passes by)...Oh you're back....Now wasn't that just awesome. Now I'm off to watch the deleted scenes. I'm going to sit back have a beer and just fall into the music. Nothing else matters now. Forget live, bills, kids, wife, husband, boyfriend or girlfriend, and whatever else there is in your life. Just sit back have your favorite drink and let Dream Theater take away the pain and put you into Metropolis 2000: Scenes from New York. enjoy, The Wizard

haha! yeah, not burning -every- CD you own, but the ones you'd like to leave in the car as go-to CDs.. All DT, all Symphony X, new Adagio, Avantasia, all NightWish, EdenBridge.....etc etc :) But definitely leave any original Spocks Beard in the car............... hahaha
