Hi!
Some good news for the European jammers! We will play at the
Progpower Festival on October 5th! I hope to meet a lot of jammers
there again like it was 2 years ago. We're looking forward to this
event very much because it was one of the best organized concerts
we have ever played.
Hope to see ya there! :)
Greetings

I think you also hit the nail on the head. I appreciate your words in response to mine. Then again this IS a DT/Progressive board, so the opinions and viewpoints herein are expected to run the gamut, but still... Diversity to me, is a godsend, and actually, a requisite characteristic of music and the arts in general. But then, that's my opinion and I maybe wrong....

I could not agree more. DT does not dance around on stage. If someone
wants to see band members dancing around, go see some of the Nu-Metal bands
jumping around on stage.

A little synchronized headbanging and feet shuffling has never hurt anyone.
I'd love to see the band pick up more on James' dance moves.

Plenty of bands were energetic before nu-metal came along. Ever seen a
clip of the Who in concert from back in the day? A little more on-stage
energy wouldn't hurt Dream Theater at all, and, remember, moving around and
having fun on stage doesn't equal 'dancing'. Of course, all of this is
pretty much a moot point, since getting people to come out to their shows
is really a problem at these days -- I've never seen them in any less than
a near-packed house.

You would have, had you seen more than one show. I saw 3 shows right in a
row and everything was exactly the same in Vai's sets - even his comentary
between songs was exactly the same! Tell me if this sounds familiar:
"It's a great honor and a privilege to be playing for you people tonight."
The *only* time I specifically remember him mentioning a city was when he
introduced Mike Keneally as San Diego's "homeboy" when they played here. So
yes Vai was too rehearsed as if he was on autopilot - there was absolutely
nothing different in what (or even how) he played each of the 3 nights I saw
him. While I don't expect him to change his set, the commentary could've
been a little more personalized and he didn't have to perform every single
flashy thing the same every night.

Hi all,
This is to inform you that prog is also alive and well here in Indonesia. We
will be having our own version of ProgFest in Jakarta. The show is scheduled
for September 7. It will be on an open-air venue, capacity approx. 1500
people. Headlining the show will be Discus, Indonesia's current hottest prog
export. Those of you in the US might remember them from ProgDay 2000, which
they played along with Kopecky. Their album, "1st", is available through
Mellow Records.
On a side note, tomorrow I will be interviewing Mike Portnoy before his
clinic at Hard Rock Cafe Jakarta. Sooo excited !! Earlier this year I was MC
for John Myung's clinic in Jakarta, so this year I'm very lucky :) Hopefully
the band will do a show next year ... BTW we are planning an
international-scale festival next year. Daniel Gildenlow and Pain Of
Salvation have shown interest to play. We also hope to get a band from the
US.
Of course we will be recording the prog festival and the MP interview, so
anyone interested in MP3s please reserve through my address.
Thanks all, and please wish us luck.
Progressively yours,
Sigit Prabowo

This may not exactly be about a prog show but i saw WSOU's riverfront rampage
in newark nj. It was great 20 bands from 12 noon till midnight. The show was
definitely in a very heavy direction though.. But bands of note from that
show would be:
Waterdown: God damn these guys are awesome i love there structure of vocals :)
Among Thieves: These guys are VERY unique and have a great sound to them
There were so many bands on the bill though dunno if u heard of and of em and
if u did gimme some album advice :P
...Lamb of god, God Forbid, Thursday, Chaimera, The misfits, Overkill,
Vision of disorder, Hatebreed, Shades Apart, Skinlab, Biohazard, and ill nino
It was a nice 15 year anniversery for a radio station that regularly plays DT

They only have one album (as far as I know) called "New American Gospel" on
Metal Blade. I'm not crazy about the production (particularly drumwise --
the snare bothers me), but it's a solid extreme metal disc.
>God Forbid
Awesome band, sort of a fusion of thrash, hardcore, and power metal (listen
to some of the guitar parts). If you can find it, their album "Reject The
Sickness" on 9Volt is real damn fine. Their latest, "Determination", on
Century Media is good too (and certainly easier to locate), I just prefer
the other one. It's got more 'variation' to it.
>Thursday
They have an album on Victory called "Full Collapse". Emo-stuff, not
really my thing.
>ill nino
Pretty lame (IMO of course) new signing to Roadrunner, sort of a
Sepultura-(ultra)lite. Their debut, which either just came out or will
shortly, is called "Revolution...Revolucion". There's a couple tracks in
Spanish to prove that they're 'ethnic', and not just another
slightly-above-par nurock band...
I'm not familiar enough with the entire back catalogs of the other bands to
give true all-album recommendations, although I can tell you Overkill's
newest one, "Bloodletting", is cool (yet, like that Lamb of God, with a
tinny snare...), but that their early '90s albums like "Horrorscope" are
also good/better starting points. Additionally, Biohazard's new one
"Uncivilization" ain't bad if you're into their sound, VOD's latest, "From
Bliss To Devastation", sounds little like their previous releases, and
Skinlab's "Disembody: The New Flesh" is a quality piece-o-work.
Something else, unrelated. Tool will be touring the US soon with Meshuggah
(hot damn!) as support. Old news, most likely, but I haven't seen any
mention of it here yet.

If anybody was going to write a letter to the bar that stiffed sb, its all
been cleared up now. I wrote a letter to them and here is the reply.
<<Hello JJ,
The Spock's Beard situation is a dead issue. We paid the band
what they were contracted as per their booking agent. Whatever the problem
was, it was with the band, their management and their booking agent. The
band has apologised to us for dissing us on their web-site (they've pulled
the diss from the site) and has promised us that they
would post an apology on their web-site in the future.

That's Michael Angelo Batio, I think the first guitarist with a v-shaped

I just found out that he's still around, and has his own label (on

Angelo's work has gone on the progressive side. I'm thinking about ordering
his latter solo albums ... does anybody have any comment about those albums
