Thanks, Graham. They actually have decent samples..
it's been a while since I've not been utterly peeved
with a "sample" as opposed to a "song." And this from
a person on dialup.
That being said, they didn't quite live up to my
expectations.. or at least, what I was thinking when I
read what you said about them. That first sample
didn't really get me, but the last one was really
getting good when it got cut off. Kind of irritating.
I would like it better if the guitars didn't sound so
. "raw" would be the word best used to describe it.
Also the singer didn't sound that amazing either.
Could be that I've been on a diet of really good
vocalists in my CD-listening lately and that has
prejudiced me, could be that with your mention of Type
O I had premonitions of a voice a la Steele... though
of course that can't be, as he's the only one with
that voice :) And God, I love that voice.
Anyway, thanks for sending over the link and stuff.
I'm definitely going to be keeping my eyes (and ears)
open. I'm looking around for some good new stuff to
get into currently. I think it's safe to say I'm not
about to run off and buy the Dying Bride CDs
instantaneously as I did with Blind Guardian, but I'm
definitely open to more (and more extended) listens.
Alex

I ask you all, even if you have info STOP right now.
It took me 5 min to find "The Glass Prison" on XXXXXXX (I won't say where
and again no mails as I WON'T SAY).
It'll ruin the surprise for us all -
For me it's like knowing the sex of your child before it's born
or peaking into the presents at christmas :
<< it's still an awesome expearience but some of the magic has gone >>
Alexis no blame to you it would itch us all to hear ANY new stuff from DT,
It's itching me but I won't download it (at least I'll try).
>> So I prefer not to know what's out there.
At LEAST put spoilers.
Finally :
ZADESTER@??? STOP PUTTING THE NEW STUFF ON THE NET.
RESPECT DT's WORK.
I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU GOT IT BUT SSTTOOPP PLEASE.
See you all soon,
And Alexis I don't doubt it will be the "best DT album ever" :)

I'm still here, too. :)
I guess compared to Enslaved et al., Trans-Siberian Orchestra would come
across as being 'cheesy'....but I happily forked over $50 for close
tickets this year because the TSO show I saw last year was one of the
top 10 live performances I've EVER seen.
This was the West touring troupe, with only Johnny Middleton
reprahzentin' for Savatage, but the Savatage fans in the audience --
and they were legion, comprising perhaps a third of the crowd -- gave
him a warm welcome indeed. Some of the on-stage vocal talent was, if
anything, BETTER than that on the CDs. Great show.
I thought the '2 down, 2 to go' was tacky in the extreme, too. Like
others, I'm not a huge Beatles fan, but I like a fair number of their
songs. In George's memory, I closed out our mmmmmmmmmetal radio show
here in Atlanta tonight with a heavy cover of "Eleanor Rigby" (as by
Godhead). Travel gently, George. (And remember he also brought us
movies like LIFE OF BRIAN and TIME BANDITS.)
Although mentioning that you've heard "Glass Prison" is not in itself a
bannable offense on mikeportnoy.com, posting a link to hear or download
it -is-. I think they should just go ahead and let it spread. What,
did they think it wouldn't cruise around the globe after being broadcast
on Japanese radio? Just let the fever build. It's a strong showing,
a kewl track indeed.

Personally, I think it's a little weak. It doesn't grab my nuts like the title track does.

I'm not a huge Beatles fan either, but their contributions, if that is an understatement, can't be dismissed easilly. Losing a member of such an acclaimed and famous group of musicians, is certainly a loss, and I think Harrison was often the under-rated sideman for quite sometime. Anyhow, enough on that, though I agree the original post subject-line was a tad bit callous.
As for the TSO, I think I am looking forward to that more than another ST CD with Oliva singing. Just never been a big fan of his voice (although the Gutter Ballet days are certainly worth revisiting from time to time). I find TSO to be liberating and progressive in their own right.
PS: DT has a new song? PSS: Metal Maniacs christmas ball?

An mp3 version of one of the songs from the upcoming album (Jan 29, 02) blew up on the net i think on wednesday or thursday. The copy i *had* ;) was a 160kbps mp3 and was clearly NOT taken from the radio. So it was one bad apple (quoting MP) that used his promo priviledges the wrong way. MP himself posted on his forum (www.mikeportnoy.com) that he himself had spread around a few decoy mp3s of raise the knife, way it used to be, speak to me, and other "unreleased" old dt songs with titles off of 6DoIT, and urged other users to make 13.52 min(duration of the track) recordings of stupid things or whatever they wanted (crappy songs looped ,etc)and post them on mp3 sites, share them on winmx and other share programs, i thought that was a cool idea :) Sort of like a disinformation campaign :)
