The college music scene in the UK appears
to had died on it's arse. I don't think that it's any
coincidence that there is a severe lack of support
for live music in the pubs anymore, at least around
Coventry ( from where I hail ). To be honest it's
never been much cop, but 10 or so years ago at least
you had the opportunity to see a band who performed
original material. Now, the market forces have ensured
that no matter where you go you're always sure of
hearing yet another rendition of Wonderwall.

Thanks to everyone who passed on info about
    mags / websites etc...

    cheers

    Mark.

Firstly just a quick hi to everyone - as I've recently transferred the
reciept of this list to my work email account hopefully I'll now be able to
contribute a little more while I'm on the skive!

    Anyway, as Mark Andrews wrote;

    >a) The Classic Rock Society (boldly going where few dare to tread, constantly drawing
attention to excellent UK bands). Now if they weren't >based in Rotherham
I'd hazard a guess that they'd have more success

True enough but a cool thing is that Rick Wakeman is the honorary president
and him (and some other bands you mention) does local gigs which is great.
Anoher benefit for me (although I admit I'm not even a member but wtf) is
that I live in Rotherham too - a few streets away from the gu that runs the
    CRS.

Mind you - Rotherham is like Beiruit with rain!

I agree with your comments regarding Classic Rock Magazine - it is superb
(as yer all prob aware they sponsored DT's additional UK dates last year).
Anyone seeking further information about the magazine can read the review I
    wrote at

    www.dooyoo.co.uk (kinda like epinions/ciao etc..)

which'll hopefully help ya make yer mind up.

(Dont worry this isnt a deliberate scam for more reads (as none of you guys
will be dooyoo members I wont get paid anyway) just maybe a useful read
    thats all).

That said - this just about ends my first post - cheers guys.

    Nathan

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left!

I'll just echo other people's comments:

Black t-shirts w/ white lettering are great. I have 2
of the 1st gen Ytsejam T-shirt, 1 tank top of 1st gen
design, and 1 2nd gen t-shirt. All are black, w/
white lettering (1st gen has glow in the dark
lettering "let the light surround you" on back) and
include the Majesty logo. The 2nd gen one (there's
nothing like having a big-ass Majesty logo on the back
of a t-shirt) was offered on a variety of t-shirt
colors (Hanes Beefy-T)...you could get black, maroon,
green and I think navy. Hell...I think they were
offered in unhooded sweatshirt form too.

Please reconsider the design and color offerings :-)

I actually have one designed. A Majesty vector based image, so I can make
them as big as I want, no distortion. (Which works better than the font that
is out there) labels/decals and print them out, but cutting it is a bitch.
The only way around this I see is if you have tinted windows. You could
print with a black box around it, then you have a perfect square to cut.
    Looks nice though.
Any other suggestions to get around this? Transparent labels? Help?!?

I could hook the jam up, for trades or something, since selling might
    infringe on the band.
I've actually had it for a while now. Felt special. I always wondered what
kind of market there would be for this, and for just one of their name.

Any thoughts on this? Does anyone have Mike's private email addy? I can
email him and see what he thinks, maybe offer it through the web site or fan
club kinda thing. That would be extremely cool.

    Ask a silly question then.
    Get an even dumber answer.

Obviously it's a live show amd you'd get song order from napster itself, or is this a trick question ?

]From the little knowledge I have, cos I can't stand the band, is that this is a boot, originally shown on German TV (I think).

"heartprint" means that little graphic on the front of the shirt, like
where the crocodile goes on those polo shirts. It's usually a few inches
down and a few inches over, falling nicely over one's manbreast. Or
heart, if you will. Actually, Andrew, I did use your typeface and it was
very handy indeed! Good work, son. You'll make sergeant for this.

Now, since apparently my flourescent idea is going over like zyclon, I
would like to say that the yellow shirt isn't really flourescent. It's a
nice yellow. I have pix: http://www.numbersixdesign.net/ytseshirt.html

I think the yellow color rocks. It'll make you stand out in a sea of black
    shirts. Looks great, man!

Sorry, that's flourescent. But I'd wear it. And the black one. At the
    same time.

    No.

I say go for it, but a BIG Majesty logo on the back would be cool,
    too....hehe

    The "new" black, huh? hehe

Graham, I hope that you understood that I wasn't getting at you, because I know that you buy plenty of disks and travel far and wide to see your favourite bands. :-) But here in London you have more than 10Million people within a hour or so's travel of the city centre and you are lucky to see more than a couple of hundred people turn up for the monthly prog gig - and many of them travel from even further away.

    >> Well some people are working on it - but until UK consumers a) hear

That's what I was trying to say! But away from London, how many of them were sold out - or in Glasgow's case moved to a smaller venue. :-( Yet the likes of AC/DC can still do a small Arena tour. Unless CD sales are good and people attend the gigs that are out there, then promoters are going to be reluctant to make the tours more extensive.

    > My entire gig attendance history is at
    > http://www.ytse.freeserve.co.uk/ if anyone's interested.

hehehe you're almost as much of an anorak as me - though I plan to post a complete list, my memory from 25 years ago is not so good :-) so its hard to work out exactly when I did see Gentle Giant, PFM, Brand X, Camel etc.

    > The arguments that you can't find prog CDs, and you can't see prog

Agreed. I still think that a few more Brits could manage to drag themselves away from the TV.

whatever, the distribution is London is very poor.

They switched to Windows Media only recently. Their RealAudio
server couldn't cope. The new stream is *MUCH* better. And on Malcolm Dome's show (Saturday evenings) you'll be able to enjoy everything from Henry Cow to Opeth.

These guys were behind the recent appearance of Stratovarius and the upcoming appearances of Hammerfall etc. Rumours are that Doro will be making a London Pub appearance too

The other interesting change on the Radio front was yesterday's announcement from Virgin Radio (who originally got their licence based on a promise to play ROCK music) is giving up playing the boyband shit and going back to a non top-40 format. I'll be interested to see how that develops.

touche! :-) OK guilty as charged - but I had already seen them 3 times last year and I did see over 30 gigs and festivals last year. There was a glut of gigs at the tail end of the year and I couldn't find the fund or enthusiasm to go to 'em all.

    Oh, of course. :-)

We largely agree that prog music is available in the UK, but most
people are too stupid and lazy and apathetic to take advantage of the
    fact.

Ironically, I had one spare ticket for that gig which I couldn't even
give away (everyone else in the queue already had tickets). You
could've had it for free, since it ended up going to waste anyway!

I expect to see you there when Spock's Beard are headlining at the
    *upstairs* Astoria next time. :-)

Yeah, I can't wait to have my left manboob augmented by this shirt! :D Ah, well. I can't believe I called you Jason in my last post. I feel so superior. Ah, well.

Any plans for maybe a white one with black print? That'd bee cool, too. That yellow's just not my color. I could wear it to go hunting, though, I guess. -- KorgX3 hates bright colors and always wears blacks, blues, and greys.

I DEFINITELY like that black design. The gray Majesty symbol with the purple text just ROCKS, and the "new black" really works, too :)

Does it cost more to do the back too? I think it would look neat to have a similar design on the back, maybe "Dream Theater" on the top, followed by the Majesty symbol beneath (in the same colors) and then maybe "Carpe Diem" below that? I dunno, I'm just spouting out ideas now.
