Yeah I remember the days back in the mid 80's, where there was no internet, no
sound samples, no nothing, except you might something about a new release in a magazine. Circus was pretty decent back then for metal, so
was Kerrang.

Some of us old timers remember buying stuff like Rage For Order and Ride The Lightning
on good old vinyl too :)

Yes we take all this stuff too much for granted these days, I mean I am bitchy if I can't find an album in mp3 at least a month before it's
official release...........

Man!! There was no NAPSTER!!! NO FTP SERVERS!! AHHHH!!!! THAT WAS THE DARK AGES!!!
That's why there were cool little record shops to hang out in so you could listen to
all the latest stuff... :)

Heheh... try stuff like Live After Death and old Priest and Sabbath on vinyl.

Yeah goddamnit... why are you mp3 encoders so slow?? We should be having albums
at least 2 months in advance!! ;)

Thanks for the links. I have used Laser's Edge before and can say nothing
but good stuff about their service. High quality! Right now I am hedging
if I should cancel my CDnow order or not.. the thing is, my payment has
already been sent to them, and the DC Cooper is not the only disc on that
order. I like to get a couple discs at once to cut down on S&H, so it
means I would have to find something to order from Laser's Edge in addition
- not that I couldn't find anything (no, stop twisting my arm, there's
nothing I want, really!), just that my checking account is begging me for
mercy. All in all, these separate orders make for somewhat of a pain in
(my) ass.

I believe that if you're counterfeiting money, it's the money itself

and not any specific denomination. But i'm really stretching here.

Hi Bernd ! Listened to the demos and here's a fan's opinion... Thank you
for going back to the HEAVY sound ! The mellow/experimental stuff on
Younique really scared me. But I'm just one opinion so who cares on the
grand scheme, huh? :) But really, the new heavy demos sound very
promising.

On a different note, did anyone win that promotion from your web site last
year? I hadn't heard anything about that. I think I completed the web form
the same day you submitted it to the 'Jam..

Actually, it was a HORRIBLY translated Genesis game called Zero Wing, and
this is how it was released.

I hope I don't qualify for old-timer status yet, after all, I'm only 25......but Kurt's "whoah, <random band> has a new CD out," story completely meshes with the way I bought "Awake." I just happened to drop into Tower records to kill time between classes, and saw "Awake" on the cassette rack (since I was at that time, late 1994, still a bit away from joining the CD using ranks), and just grabbed it. Since I didn't get on the internet until the very last days of 1994, I had had no idea it was coming out, as Dream Theater wasn't a band with wide name recognition at that point (unlike Queensryche, whose Promised Land album came out at about the same time; unlike DT, they had posters in the record stores in advance of that date announcing the release.)

For useless trivia's sake, the Scarface album released in 1994 came out the same day as Promised Land.....I remember that because I bought that for my rap fan brother on that trip into the music store.....that too was a, "I didn't know this was coming out," kind of purchase. (Not that i care for Mr. Scarface of the Ghetto Boys, but my brother's birthday was just a few days later)

>What if the internet did not exist? We would have no clue about the pre-production of the >dvd, release date on cd's etc etc.... Im sure there are some old timers here who remeber the >days of walking into a cd store and saying "whoah, Maiden has a new cd out, lemme get it"

Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com>
