Hmmmm ...... While I am thrilled that the good boys in Superior are getting
some suitable air-time, I must chime in. I love both CDs to death but for
me, Behind is a lot more accessible, at least for mainstream prog followers
(an oxi-moron ??). When I listened to Younique the first time, the only
thing I said to myself was "I really dig songs 2 and 3 but too bad that
Superior are no more". It took a few listens for me to appreciate what
Younique had to offer. I think that Younique pushes many more envelopes and
as such is more progressive. Unfortunately, it is this lack of
accessibility in this dreary age of instant gratification that really hurt
sales of the latter.
If only people could give something DIFFERENT a chance ..... Seems like a
good theme for an album ........

With a song like "This Promise" on it, how could Younique not be an awesome
album? :D Even so, I still think that Behind is the better of the two,
although I still love Younique's more diverse blend of musical stylings.
Behind stuck to one particular theme throughout most of the album and that
was just being good old metal/prog. Younique didn't have too much of a
theme which does tend to make it a little tougher for me to listen to (as
when I'm usually in the mood for metal, I listen to metal and Free-minded is
too funky to be metal, imo), but altogether it still rocks. :)
BTW, Bernd, what's the status of the new album, anyway? Good to see you're
still around, too, bro. :)

I agree with you, and I certainly never thought of it that way. If I had thought about that before reading your comments, though, I would have probably associated Behind and Awake because they are heavier than Younique and I&W, respectively. For the record, I prefer Behind/I&W, but those albums are _thisclose_ to leapfrogging the other in my mind.

I haven't heard anything negative about Avantasia..everyone just keeps saying that it is a masterpiece. Then yesterday I got the album... On record there are many many of my favourite artists and I think that Edguy is one of the best power metal bands nowadays..but...My opinion about Avantasia is that it doesn't offer anything new for me and is totally conventional power metal album..I'm a little disappointed as everyone has praised Avantasia to the skies. =( Anyone who unites to my opinion? =)
Now I'm listening to the new Savatage single Commissar..just got it...and even though Zach is gone -this totally kicks ass!! God that I'm waiting for the album Poets and Madmen. This is so powerfull stuff and Jon sings superb! On these 3 songs can every elements of good Savatage material be heard...GREAT!!!!

Scour Exchange is a program like Napster, except it allows you to search and download lots of other filetypes. Such as .AVI's, .MOV's, .MPEG's, etc. It's quite useful.

I wouldn't call it "crap" but it is no where near 5YIALT quality, and it never tied to be. It was only released because Jim Matheos thought the performance was good and it was a good concert in the Fates history to document. I would call it an official multiple camera bootleg. The video quality is good, but the sound quality is a little lacking in some areas. I think it can be had for around $10, so it's not too bad of a deal for fans. Fates doesn't really have any outstanding videos yet... but hopefully Metal Blade will get rolling on the Fates DVD that has been hinted about for a little while (live & backstage footage, videos, etc.)...

Fates Warning EARLY albums are light years better than the newer stuff. Definitely check them out. They have a sort of "best of" CD out that I can't recall the name of here at work... but that will give you a good taste of their earlier, better albums. Mileage will vary.

And that is your opinion :) ... IMO, APSOG and disconnected are fates two best albums..because they dare to do something different.. IMO inside out/parallels era Fates was just plain old boring music with some exciting parts, and older era fates was just another iron maiden sounding power metal type band... now if youre into both those things then fine :) but if that guy liked apsog and disconnected he should be warned that nothing else on their back catalog sounds like those cds

Nope. :) Count on me to be obnoxious. Hey, it's Friday, and I'm going stir-crazy from this past week. I love Awake and I LOVE Behind. Younique is pretty damn cool, and has some fantastic tunes on it, but in terms of the entire album, Behind takes the cake. Or the cake makes Behind. Read how you will. :)
And just to contribute some dribblings on the Freak Kitchen thread.. thanks for bringing this up again, guys. I have a couple of songs on tape courtesy of a fellow jammer (yo, Nik! email from me later today, I swear) which I haven't listened to in a while but all the talk here made me dig it up again. I really love these guys. The sound is pretty damn cool - sorry but I can't tell you from what CD I bring this perspective, since I don't have them and don't feel like browsing the web now to look it up - and the lyrics are funny as hell.
