for an album. Godhead, 2000 YEARS OF HUMAN ERROR. Okay, it's not prog,

quite the contrary, I bet most on the jam prefer the Sammy years. Just a
hunch. The music and lyrics are much deeper and experimental. The Dave
Days were so linear and simple, basic hooks for the millions of sheep in the
world that listen to what record companies tell you to.
Not that I don't like the Dave tunes, I just prefer "Right Now," "Dreams,"
"Humans Being," just because musically they are different from tune to tune.
And they all have different subject matter.
Honestly, I wouldn't rush out over a new Van Halen w/Dave CD. They've
dicked over their fans one to many times, and they should know that we have
moved on by terrible record sales....
on the other hand...
If Van Halen, or GNR(can't stand 'em) could help regain the rock throne, I'm
all for it. Get these tenenie boy and girl groups out of here. Including
KoRn, Limp Bizkit, and all the wannabies out there. Rap and R&B could also
use a slump, I mean how repetitive is it to hear 10 different rap songs with
the same beat? Or R&B, a CD with 16 tracks about love? How about some
variety?

I must be the only one who liked Gary Cherone in VH. :p The only thing that
pissed me off was that he was trying to hard to sing like Sammy when he's a
DAMN better singer than that. Either that or smoking finally crippled his
voice. Either/or. I remember hearing stories about him being able to sing
over the band in concert without a microphone in Extreme. Oh, well.
Hopefully Gary's on to bigger and better things.

So I picked up Giant Robot, because so many people told me that
Buckethead is this amazing player who innovates and shreds everyone's
balls off. I have to say I was extraordinarily disappointed. I think Ron
Thal has done everything Buckethead has with more feel, creativity and
style. Can someone either point me in the direction of a better albom or
tell me what the real uniqueness of this guy is? And all those wanabe Vai
moments with the stupid scenes? Come on. Man, I feel so jaded. Someone

I don't know how many of you here read Metal Sludge... In case you don't,
it's a journalistic/satyric (sp?) website, who does report metal news but at
the same time makes fun of just about anyone, alive or dead... And one of
their writers, who goes by the name of Bastard Boy Floyd, had something
interesting to say about this: "Anybody who thinks that Van Halen is going
to be the same kickass band that they were in 1980 should email me because I
have some great ocean front property for you to buy in Ohio." And I agree
with him here: Eddie is not the same, VH3 was, for most part, HIS fault, not
Cherone (even though bashing Cherone is the easy thing to do for the
die-hard VH fans) and he still is in the band, hence he'll still hold most
of the creative control... And I think it is very difficult that Eddie will
change his writing style just like that... IF (and this is a major if) DLR
is given as big a creative input as he wants (and that's not likely to
happen, both his and Eddie's egos are too big), then I'd say we could see a
VH album resembling the old albums (DLR band's last album sounded close to
that old VH sound), but...
Don't get me wrong, I'm wished I could believe Michael Anthony's words here,
I loved the two songs they did with Roth in the Best of - Vol. 1, but I just
don't see it happening...

Has anyone heard of Soundscape? They are a pretty good prog-metal band
out of Connecticut, USA. If you have a cd by them it is probably
"Discovery".
But here's something you may not know. They also have an ep called
"Man and Machine" and their lead singer Thorne (aka Rob Thorne aka
Rob Volpintesta) has two solo cds featuring Soundscape called "Iago"
and "America the Beautiful". AtB is a 2cd rock opera.
The reason I'm telling you this now is that I just got AtB and they said
there was only 3 left before it went out of print.

Nope Todd, it's not Marvin, that IS a robot, but not so immortal as the

LOL I just finished downloading from NAPSTER The 1-st book of
Hitchiker's Guide. :) This stuff is hurting me severely damn it. :) I
laugh with tears. The book is good but these live original radio shows
(it was radio satire originally, the book came later) are awesome, the
cool British accent and sense of humour. GO GET IT!
p.s. oh, just saw few replies on that post, but nevermind. Glad to see
so many Douglas fans.
BTW, what's that game you speak about? I found 1 game, with entering
words and questions and that's all, nothing visual, graphic ... I'm sure

So, why can't we all make an effort and create some good melodies for our

"singer", the worst I've ever listened to (Julio will definitely know of
whom I'm talking about....).
I'd really love having a melody which fitted my personality and my (our)
tastes. But I can't find any good rock melody for my Nokia 3210.
Then, why don't you experts try to develop some good melodies? Or some
impressive graphics? It would be a real pleasure having a DT logo and/or a
piece of a famous rhyme in my phone. Don't you think so?

The hitchhiker's game was text-only, and first came out in 1984 or so. I
remember playing it in middle school, which places it at 1983 to 1987 time
frame. It was absolutely hilarious and very challenging, but only covers
up to the landing on Magrathea in terms of the book continuity. Still, if
you have a decent attention span, its 200% better than most games out there
today, and this is coming from a 3D game programmer...

I had that game at some point, although I lost it in a hard drive crash :(
I was never able to get past Zaphod's ship after you get picked up from
Earth at the very beginning of the game. I never could figure out what I
was supposed to do... I'd love to play that again. Zork was another great
one, too... I think I still have that one somewhere.

Amen to that. Once is such a powerful & stirring song. Everything about
it (the progressions, the rhythm, vocals, the solo) reeks with emotion.
Deffinetly the high point of the album, followed by Year To The Day and
]From Afar.
Van Halen's best albums though, have to be Balance & OU812. F.U.C.K. is
pretty close too. Oh, & then there's 5150.......damn.......

Unless it's an album I don't know about, I believe the Buckethead album
your referring to is called "Monsters & Robots". I have that as well, and
it has it's moments, but you're right; on the whole it's pretty
dissappointing. That was the second album of his I had gotten. The
reason I was dissappointed was because the first album of his that I got
was the masterpiece "Colma" released in '98. This album for the most part
is very laid back, with a lot of nice acoustic moments. There are some
songs where he delves into a more powerful electric feel (such as the
song "Machete"), but for the most part chooses to be more mood-setting &
atmospheric than all-out shredding. Because this album was so incredibly
well done (Brain adding his flavor on the drumkit & programming), I was
expecting something equally mind-blowing with a very "electric" album. I
did not find this with "Monsters & Robots". Like I said, it had it's
moments, but I would recommend "Colma" to anyone who wants to hear some of
the most tasteful guitar work I've ever heard. A classic to be sure.

Now, mind you, I don't really know how many Buckethead fans there are out
there on the 'jam, but if there are any real die-hards floating around,
then maybe you can help me out. I'm looking for someone who has a copy of
the disc "Dreamatorium". It goes under the name of Death Cube K (which
was just an anagram for Buckethead), and it is, to my knowledge, out of
print. It's supposed to be one of his most incredible solo works, and I
would kill to find someone who had it and was willing to make a copy of
it. Well, here's hoping.........

I've listened to sound clips from both, but they were off the magnacarta
site, and the quality was pretty poor. If anyone else is familiar/into
either one of these bands, then please let me know a little more about
them & their sound. Private email works fine, but maybe others on the
