Hey all...
The new Kamelot album is excellent; the band just keeps getting better
and better. I wish they'd get a full-time keyboard player, though. As
for the "Addition by Subtraction" album, that one is by the
extraordinary triumvirate of Scott McGill (guitars), Michael Manring
(bass) and Vic Stevens (drums), with guest performances by the one and
only Jordan Rudess -- and it is absolutely scorching. If you love
jazz-rock fusion in the vein of Allan Holdsworth, you must purchase this
disc.

Hey, any reviews of the new Kamelot album? And also, any reviews of an
album that's on the Laser's Edge label, which has Michael Manring on
bass
and Jordan Rudess as a guest performer? I forgot the name of the
album (I
think it might be Addition by Substraction or something like that),
and the
band's name is the last names of the bassist, drummer and guitarist.
Thanks!

I agree completely. I can't even really imagine DT without James at the
helm. He's a huge part of their wonderful sound, and also the success
they've had.

Definitely don't blame Pain of Salvation. They're fans of Dream Theater
(they name Dream Theater as an influence).
And yes, you really should check them out! They are absolutely the best
(and most original) prog-metal band to come around since DT, at least IMO.

I think the reviewer was using, as his DT yardstick, the "cold" feeling
of I&W (having Mike's drums sampled and triggered didn't help) and DT's
reputation, up through the I&W tours and the Awake recording sessions,
as a relatively emotionless band.
Clearly the reviewer hasn't watched the DVD. He clearly didn't see the
animation that DT developed onstage after the addition of Derek
Sherinian to their live setting -- you can say what you want about
Derek, but there's no question he helped bring DT's live shows up a few
notches in the "fun" department, and it looked as if the other guys in
the band played off that; the result was a more laid-back live "feel."
PoS more emotional than DT? Sure, quite possibly this is true. Their
performance in Chicago was easily one of the best 5 concerts I've EVER
seen. But DT has made huge strides since the cold, technical I&W days,
and I think that reviewer overlooked this.

I had taken a whopping 72 pics of the concert in Boston, but when I actually looked at them, some of them just didn't cut it. Apparently they looked much better in the LCD viewfinder than on a computer screen. :) Anyway, I put all the decent/good ones on my website at http://cout.dhs.org/g3/ so go check 'em out.
As for the Boston G3 Boot that was supposed to go up at Lines in the Sand... Apparently our media server's network has been having some problems and so it's down right now. We don't know why it won't come back up or when it will come back up, so right now we're unable to upload the G3 show. Sorry. :(

I wore my ytsejam shirt to a MP.com forum get-together and the G3 show in DC last night. I received a few responses from it, so thanks to the guy that made and sold them!
Todd

Yo Todd,
I wore mine, too, remember? Had on my canary yellow model for the rooftop gathering, then got so sweaty walking back to the car from Metro before the show that I decided to change into my old school(ax.com) black model. Someone outside the Warner, during one of the intermissions, asked me where in the world I got the shirt. hehe Told him they were long since gone.
And yeah, thanks to Josh, and to Pat D.(he did the old one, I believe) for continuing the YtseShirt tradition.
Kez, still on Cloud G3

Grunge was not garbage.Grunge was not just Nirvana.Do lock yourself in a room and listen to Soundgarden or Alice in Chains and tell me that they're disposable or that Chris Cornell is so awful that just makes you love Kevin James La Brie in an instance.

For those of you who use AudioGalaxy, you should be aware that it has a Spyware component called 'webhancer'. This component uploads information about what web sites you visit to a remote site. Be very careful if you try to remove this webhancer program yourself since it can cause system problems if you don't do it correctly. See these web pages for more information.
Details on how AudioGalaxy is Spyware: http://www.infoanarchy.org/?op=displaystory&sid 01/3/8/85932/50858 http://www.net-security.org/text/bugs/986812078,22787,.shtml
Look to see if specific software you have downloaded is Spyware: http://www.spychecker.com/ Specific info on WebHancer near the bottom of the page: http://www.angelfire.com/rock2/thespiralarchitect/security.htm
Also, there is supposed to be a way to remove the webhancer spyware from your system (and presumably still use AudioGalaxy). I have not tried it yet (I don't have AudioGalaxy). To remove it get AdAware 5: http://www.lavasoftUSA.com/
