I've got my Gold Pass for ProgPower 2.0 in Atlanta.
I'm psyched! I never thought I'd be able to see
Superior in concert here in the US! I bought Behind
in early 96 I think and it still gets regular play.
Add to that Symphony X and Vanden Plas......I'm rarin'
to go!
Segue to.....
What are some decent not-massively-expensive hotels in
the vicinity of the show? I need to make hotel
arrangements for that weekend. I've never been to
Atlanta and I guess I'd like closeness to venue +
other fun places. Any help would be appreciated from
the Atlanta Jammers...Pellaz? Bueller?
Thanks in Advance!
Jon.

The band are in full view of course!!
The lighting creates an obviously moody atmosphere and the emphasis of the
show is more on the video screens than the band themselves. Maynard has his
own "mini stage" next to the Danny Carey's drums. Maynard "performs"
directly in front of his own 10 foot video screen which pretty much means
that all you see of him is a sillhouette. It's an amazing effect though. He
certainly doesn't look human when he's onstage the way he writhes in his own
way! Danny Carey is amazing to watch. Justin Chancellor and Adam Jones don't
move around alot but their performance was spot on and the band as a whole
sounded brilliant. Best live sound I've heard from any band and tight as a
fishes arse as well!
Paul.

I'll be there as well, inasmuch as a) it's about ten miles away, and b)
my roommate and I helped book the venue for the mighty Glenn H. :)

Uh-oh, that pretty much tears it for PowerMad. I know a few people who
were planning on attending that ONLY for PoS.
They could, uh, delay their return until early November, and play, like,
in Atlanta....maybe Glenn could shoehorn them in somewhere. :)
Details on Progpower are at http://www.progpower.com (go to the US
side) For me, having seen these 3 bands before, Superior, Symphony X
and Evergrey are worth the price of admission ALONE.

So we UK fans still can't get the DVD 'Scenes From New York'. Anyone have any updates on when it will be available on this island?

The Chill is an excellent bootleg, no big mistakes, from anybody. Even JP could've ok'd this recording. Funny thing is that "Home" and "When Images and Words Unite" are a lot better on "The Chill..." than on the singel. I bought the singel because I'm a big fan(otherwise, I wouldn't be here). It's Sax-version of "Through her Eyes" that's the best on it. If I was a non-dt-fan, I don't think the singel would be in my collection. Speaking of singels, does anybody have the Spock's Beard "All on a Sunday" yet, and if you do, how is it?
One thing the bothers me about the "The Chill..."; why is the Portnoy-clinic devided and put at end of each cd? and in that way ruining Jordan's solo? I'm sure that there must be a way to patch up any flaws with recording or chancing of tapes, MDs or whatever he used. Isn't it?
Going back to lurking now. This has been your bi-annual post from JCBakken Hamar, Norway

I was curious as to attempting to find a good forum for independent artists (those not on a major lable, or with major/indepedent label distribution, huge corporate bankrolls, etc...) to promote their material, share insights and if applicable, compare notes, trade CD's, etc. It seems us indepedendent and self-financed individuals must trudge through alot of online resources to compete, which is obvious and a necessary evil to those in economics 201 and capitalism for the masses classes, but it still doesn't make our lives any easier (L).
IF anyone gets a chance, feel free to check out my new CD, Virtuality (plug) sound samples. Drop me a line if you have any comments, suggestions, donations, or stock tips (kidding). Thanks.

spock's beard and tiles last night.....decent (and I'm (the opposite of exaggerating) here) show.....
The 'ending' sucked though. Way deep into the night, after the band does it's usual hang out with the fans post show thing, Neal comes out of the venue for the last time. The guy I went out there with asks for a picture, and he kinda nods, and then starts talking to brother Al, who we were standing next to. Basically, he was led to believe that they would get paid $1500 for the show (which is still far less than their costs for the night), but the venue management kinda shrugged at the notion of the contract that Neil believed to have existed, and gave him $500. At this point, he's kinda looking shellshocked, late after a typically entertaining, highly energetic show (a must see, if you're anywhere near their tour path, even if you're not into their music, per se), and his voice is hoarse, and you can see the fatigue in his face. He's low key (but completely understandably, and rightfully) bitching, and talking it over with those gathered in that area for about 5-6 minutes, and then he says, "Let's get this picture, I want to get out of here."
I already respected the guy; I mean, besides the music he makes, and the effort he puts into the show, the fact that Neal, and the band consciously make time for the fans after their show is cool enough in my book. But this little thing, the fact that after having received this rude shock from the venue, and discussed it for a few minutes, he still acceded the picture request (and even managed a smile) before taking off, that's aces in my book.
