    > the group that want "same-old-same-old". And the story line of Jordan
    > having to pre-program his keys to match the setlist makes me PUKE !!

Well, you have to remember that for the first leg, they wanted to play SFaM
in it's entirity which took up roughly 75% of the show, not leaving a lot of
room for anything else. So they opted to do the When Images and Words Unite
medley and a few other selections - of course, I'm sure they could've chosen
to rotate those other tracks (PSkies, etc.) but there wouldn't have been
much difference - I think this was to cover each release.

As for the second leg (August and October shows) I can't explain why there
wasn't much variety. HOWEVER, one must remember that the show they put on
was longer by at least a half and hour than the show they did the first time
around, so consider that they could've given you a 2 hour show and rotated
the tracks that would have made up the additional half hour....or give
    everyone a longer show.

Anyway, I do understand what you are saying Mark - I like to see different
setlists each time I hit multiple shows but I guess I'm just trying to
explain what the reasoning behind their setlist choices might have been.

Here's hoping JP will do so when G3 hits southern California as I'm going to
    3 shows.

wow! The first time I have sat through an entire jam in a few weeks. The
first time we have been divided about OFB other than KM vs. DS. vs. JR
    argument.

    Actually a good read.

So there are some people out there that don't want or think it is a good
idea. Are these the same people that pay $25 a year for a fan club CD with
10 tracks from various live shows throughout the tour?

I will buy and love the 3 CD set, I wish they would just give it a better
name. I will enjoy this 10 times more than this years Christmas in July cd.

Was I the only one disappointed with it? The wait probably had a little to
do with it but overall, I've only listened to it twice. I would have rather
spent the $25 on 3 discs I would listen to on a regular basis.

    Just my Opinion,

Does anyone have a web site that has these for download?
I am getting the Nokia 8290 if that makes a difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Email me personally if you like.

I know I haven't posted in a while, but believe it or not, I still
read the jam pretty frequently. No offense to Chris, but I just
can't believe I'm reading this kind of stuff on the same ytsejam
mailing list that 4 or 5 years ago begged for a 2 cd FII or a 3 cd
OiaLT. It's also the same 'jam that started a petition to have an
album released. Granted, the music that DT will put out on this
triple cd is not brand new, but it wasn't all on the DVD. I just
found it odd and thought I'd point it out.

I think it's awesome that the label is letting them do it, and I will
buy it to support the band. But I tend to put live albums in a similar
category to Greatest Hits albums... Not really worth listening to if
you've got all the other albums anyway. And I do think it's a bit
excessive. Wasn't it Manowar that got pissed when people criticized
them because they released two live albums in a row? Hehe this reminds
me of that. I don't listen to most of my bootlegs much for the same
reason - I've got all those songs in studio-recorded CD quality on the
original albums. Nearly all of them are not any different than the
studio recordings (except perhaps for some of James' witty stage
banter :). Seeing DT live is awesome. Listening to a CD of them play
songs live that are not radically different from the studio versions
isnt too big of a thrill for me. This isn't to say, mind you, that I
don't treasure and often listen to my boots with the version of Eve
with samples, or Puppies on Acid with Derek. It is the redundant stuff
that I don't really care for. And thats pretty much all that will be
on this CD, which is why I probly won't listen to it much. I haven't
listened to OIALT since the first day I got it. I imagine this one
will be pretty much the same thing. But I have to get it. The idea of
having 27 DT boots yet not having all of their official releases is
    ridiculous :) moo.

its made available. This maybe one of those lmt edition deals too. How

With all due respect, you didn't pay $25 on a "a
fan club CD with 10 tracks from
various live shows throughout the tour". Correct
me if I'm wrong , but as a

What about those who don't have internet access ? Your assuming that all DT fans get their news from the net and quite obviously this is not the case.

Usually the fanzine is a decent read, with some usful information. But the last one was the pits, one long interview with MP and not much else. Adding insult was the Xmas CD, that after all the waiting turns out to be extremely disappointing at best.

I'd hazzard a guess that the numbers of the FC are going to take a huge dive pretty soon.

The only thing I really don't like about the Fan Club newsletters is that most of the information is backdated. I remember reading about my first DT concert last February in the fall newsletter. That's a little slow, don't you think?

If they had a method to get current information out, I'd stay subscribed, but I found that when I received my newsletter, I already knew all of the information in them, so it wasn't like I was getting anything special, besides some glossy paper and color photos. Even the interviews weren't great because all they were talking about was stuff that had already happened.

No this CD won't win over any new fans, and it won't sell as many copies as the DVD. Yes Mike thinks this performance is special and Electra is looking for a few more bucks, BUT the band is doing this for us. WE bitch all the time about new material (and yes I know this isn't new) but how many boot's do we have of the same tour? How many people have been talking about boots from the SFaM tour? I'd rather have this CD than some boot that has shitty sound quality. For those of us who don't want to buy the CD.....don't. No one is putting a gun to your head.

Not a problem, I will disagree. We'll see how many people agree with yo= ur rose-colored view and stay subscribed. The real fact is that most people subscribe BECAU= SE of the Xmas CD. The old fan club was so fucked up that the band HAD to do something to= reward those of us that suffered thru Gail Flug and her scam of a fan club.

Granted, if the XMAS CDs were like this last disc rather than the first= few...I wouldn't miss it anyway. This was good for a chuckle and it gets filed. The '99 XMAS C= D is one of my favorite DT CDs period!

Disagree all you want, it's still a fact. The CD is free. -- Andreas Skarin Svenska Dream Theater-S=3DE4llskapet http://www.sdts.nu - mailto:sdts@sdts.nu

Amen to that. The bottom line is that if this major label is willing to= support this great band, then so am I by buying it. I bet most of those that are claiming that = they won't buy it will eb out there in September when the stores open.

No this CD won't win over any new fans, and it won't sell as many copie= s as the DVD. Yes Mike thinks this performance is special and Electra is loo= king for a few more bucks, BUT the band is doing this for us. WE bitch all t= he time about new material (and yes I know this isn't new) but how many bo= ot's do we have of the same tour? How many people have been talking about bo= ots from the SFaM tour? I'd rather have this CD than some boot that has shi= tty sound quality. For those of us who don't want to buy the CD.....don't. = No one is putting a gun to your head.

My problem with this argument is the label's interpretation of low sales. Everyone's saying "don't buy it if you don't want it. No harm's done". I don't think that's entirely true. I think Elektra has been extremely supportive of DT lately and I'd hate to see that go away because they lost their ass on a 3 CD live set. If this sells poorly it will have to affect the band's clout with the label.

    Just my thoughts, tk
