Which is not only the most difficult book I've ever read, but is also the
greatest book ever written. Tolkien is to literature what Dream Theater is
to music. I've got "Somewhere Far Beyond," and it rocks. It's kinda like
speed metal stuff with a German-accented singer, but it's melodic and cool
and makes Metallica sound like beginners. Just my handful of change.

This Cd gets heavy rotation from me. It is different from most of the stuff I listen to, but I enjoy and plan to get more by this band. I like the vocals, which include a lot of choral works.

On a similar note, I was surprised to see the following coming out shortly through Magna Carta... the clips sound cool:
Robert Berry - "a soundtrack for The Wheel Of Time" <http://www.magnacarta.net/asp_bin/viewcdpage.asp?catno=ma-9052-2>" - MA-9052-2 Robert Berry composed music for the video game version of The Wheel Of Time novels by Robert Jordan. This album includes his soundtrack to the game, as well as some new and reworked compositions. Instrumental rock with a touch of Celtic flavour. For release July 10th, 2001.

You've gotta be kidding... the new Megadeth album is great... a return to some of the heavier, earlier stuff, but with much more maturity. Mustaine is still a lyrical poet...
I wish people would stop hanging shit by always making comparisons and dissecting every musical note and actually LISTEN for a change.
The instrumental "Silent Scorn" is cool... wish it was longer personally... definately got some Call Of Ktulu feel about it. "Promises" has a lot of feeling about it, and my fav is "1000 times goodbye"
Do yourself a favour, and give it a listen to decide yourself, and don't listen to some unqualified rants.

Hey Jammers, My response to recent threads---- I sleep very well to Animals and Awake, but the very first time I listened to SFaM I fell asleep ( not from boredom of course I was just tired ) and was awakened when the needle jumps of the record and the dude screams and it scared the absolute shit out of me. However I find that the musical style isn't what lulls me to sleep but the vocals or rather lack thereof. My sub-conscious mind isn't trying to make sense of words if they aren't there. So long instrumental solos or just instrumental music is best for me. Except for Buckethead ( I can't sleep at all to that stuff so I use it for waking up) My personal fav for sleep is Miles Davis --Kind of Blue -- utterly phenomenal!!! I'm picking up the new Tool cd tomorrow so that will be an interesting dream sequence. BTW does anyone else dream in conjunction with music ? Animals makes me dream of livestock in clothes Awake makes me dream of my ex-wife for some reason and classical music of just about any composer makes me dream of being a math teacher-- weird. Yes I too control my dreams with the radio and the late show. ( Chroma Key reference) I like to keep the TV on so that the flickering light stimulates my visual mind and the music stimulates my audio mind. Just one more thing I see that everyone still bitches about the spam ( myself included ) yet a lot of people are still including entire messages from previous posts within their own. The last jam was like 30% rehashed posts. I read it the first time and a couple included previous post with previous posts in them as well and while I am quite amused with Robb's quote about wanting brains now I don't really need to see it 15 times in one jam. Does anyone else think this is a waste of space or am I alone here? Oh well just an opinion from someone who doesn't really know. Have a Day Y'all Billy. np Dust for Life -- The End. ( good band ... reminds me of COC and Alice in Chains )

Never heard much Blind Guardian? Go to http://www.mp3.com/bg, download all the full length songs (something like 20) and enjoy. Oh yeah, then go out and buy all the CDs, you won't regret it!
BG is working on the new CD right now. I have been seeing some of the lyrics from Hansi and it is going to be great. Nothing Tolkien based this time but cool nonetheless. I just need to hear the music that goes with it now. :)

I was more a fan of Blind Guardia's earlier stuff but Nightfall is okay. It's a bit too over the top with the whole goblin inspired thing for my tastes. I much preferred the Follow The Blind era between '87 and '90. Paul.

Personally, I can fall asleep during any album. Or during live concerts even -- I was so beat by the end of day #1 of this year's NE Metal & Hardcore festival, that I was actually falling asleep standing up during Cannibal Corpse's set! This is a 'skill' without a silver lining, as far as I can tell.
>BTW does anyone else dream in conjunction with music ?
Only one. I dreamed I was doing a wicked synth run, then discovered it was actually Patrick Moraz when I stopped moving my fingers and the music kept going (disc playing: Yes "Relayer"). What a letdown. I had a dream the other day that Evil Forces were trying to infiltrate our world via Grateful Dead concert videos. Probably not too far from the truth...

So I was sat in my living room watching the SFNY DVD, and my housemates got home, and groaned "Oh here we go". But I persuaded them to sit down and pay atention, and credit where it's due: they sat through AMBI and ACoS. When it was done, they both agreed that while yes, it's technically very clever, it all sounds exactly the same.
I was pretty stunned by this comment; I man, I understand that other people don't LIKE Dream Theater, but I couldn't believe that anyone could think that it all sounds the same. And certainly not those four songs!! And these are not stupid Britney Spheres people; one is a Royal Northern College of Music graduate who listens to Yes, Genesis and King Crimson along with some indie shite, the other is one of the most talented drummers (in any time sig you like) that I know. And they reckon it sounds the same.
I thought I'd share that, because it made me wonder: what do people who don't lke Dream Theater think of it when you guys play it to them??
~SJD
p.s., but they both liked the excerpt from the Simpsons, and Jordans little piano danzas. :)

I don't know what Slayer you guys have been listening to, but the one I've been listening to made a major comeback with one of their best CDs: Diabolus in Musica. They really only put out one sub-par album, Divine Intervention.
/me looks forward to seeing them with Pantera and Morbid Angel in july...

Are you a member of the DTIFC? If so, you'll find out soon, and if not, I'm sworn by my YtseHonor not to give away the "surprise." You might be able to find out if you watch the DVD with the commentary on, also. Sorry, that's all I can say.

DT songs are usually more than 4 minutes long.I've given people the I&W cd to start with and they told me they just liked Wait for Sleep.Another favorite is,playing acid rain to someone and getting a "there's too much noise..." comment.Indeed there is.The noise of instruments actually playing something, like, music. Although, i suspect that, about the WfS thing, people were just too bored to listen to the rest 7 + minute songs and didn't even bother.
my 2 drachmas
ps:i didn't wanna sound like a prog snob, but "noise" type of comments tend to get irritating

Some people that I've played DT also say that most songs sound the same but most of them only bother to listen few minutes anyway so I guess their opinion isn't quite valid. As opposite every DT fan I know says that one reason they like it is because the songs are so different from each other.
Another thing that I've noticed is that every single person that normally doesn't listen to metal _loves_ Hollow Years. Metal listeners usually dislike it. I really wonder why it hasn't got any bigger success.
