Randy Coven is definitely an incredible bassist. His playing on the
latest Ark disc, "Burn the Sun," is outstanding, but to really hear what
he can do, you definitely have to pick up "Funk Me Tender" and "Sammy
Says Ouch," or better yet, the recently-released "Best of Randy Coven,"
which contains the best tracks from those two albums plus the best from
the "C.P.R" disc (featuring Al Pitrelli on guitar and John O. Reilly on
drums). It's out now on Koch Records, I believe. And he's got a new
solo disc soon to be released as well, called "Witchway."
"Tree" is probably my all-time favorite Randy Coven composition, a
nearly-unequalled piece of melodic, yet virtuosic bass playing.

C.P.R.??? sounds like something worth checking out. from what i've
heard, this randy coven guy is someone who deserves a listen. on top of
that, teamed up with pitrelli (enough said) and john o'reilly (fantastic
drum work on the more recent Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow "Stranger In Us
All" disc), it definetly SOUNDS like there's potential. is this an
all-instrumental project (ala Bozzio/Levin/Stevens), or does someone else
do vocals? what's the inside scoop on this disc?
jammin' on,
eric
