So enough of the "worst CD packaging ever," what gets nods for the "BEST CD
    packaging ever?"

I like Primal Fear's self titled debut in the metal case. And as for
different genres I love the packaging for the Star Wars Trilogy Special
    Edition soundtracks. Pure beauty.

My lil' website, WIXQ-METAL, is sponsoring a monster of a contest
currently. Prizes are over 30 CDs (signed copy of God Forbid's latest, new
releases from Meshuggah, Crowbar, Shadow Gallery, Stuck Mojo, Slipknot, Ice
Age, Ministry, Jag Panzer, Dragonlord, Rollins Band, bunch of others), many
CD and cassette singles, posters (including a few very cool 2'X3' Iced
Earth ones), stickers, and other assorted metal swag. Go to...

    http://www.wixq.com/metal/

..and click on "Contest." Go on, you know you want to.

Best I remember seeing was Ozric Tentacles' "Spice Doubt Streaming." It
came in a fluid-filled pouch complete with free-floating fake fish,
mollusks, and whatnot. The digipack version of the Demons & Wizards album
is pretty wicked too, with its pop-up skeleton.

Sasha, AFAIK, there is no true "limited edition" DVD - SFNY on DVD is
labeled "limited edition" whereas SFNY on videotape is not. All copies of
the DVD feature the live performance of SFaM plus bonus footage (AMBI, LtL,
ACoS, behind the scenes stuff, audio commentary track during SFaM tracks,
etc.) whereas all copies of the videotape only have SFaM performed live.

I'd have to say I like the pre-order Marillion - Anoraknophobia
Also, Nine Inch Nails - Broken (Fragile was pretty good too

Definately agree about the Trilogy CDs. Very cool.

Wax Trax "Black Box" series in the metal tin with three completely black jewel cases and a bed of reel-to-reel tape gets my vote.

Second is the Tool Salival DVD/CD.

hey there all, just picked up 3 new ones. the first being the new Queensryche double live, and of course, it kicks much ass. the other two discs are equally good, and i'm surprised that no one has mentioned either one on this list so far. first off, the billy sheehan solo, titled "compression", is pretty friggin' good. sheehan fulfills almost all of the musical responsibilities, with the exception of a few guest spots, including terry bozzio on two songs, as well as steve vai with a solo on one track (he & billy take turns exchanging 4-bar riffs, almost in a dueling fashion. pretty sweet). sheehan also fulfills all the vocal duties, which at times leave a little bit to be desired, but it's not at all detracting from the album. phenomenal bass work, as always. the last album was the new tony macalpine solo, which is also pretty amazing. tony goes back to more familiar territory than he was in with planet x. the playing leans more heavily back to his neo-classical stylings that he has become so well known for. however, there are some very distinct fusion/freeform elements that arre are touched on as well. he also seems to have a better grasp on the planet x/sherinian style than before, and he ventures back into that realm a little also. here's the lineup: Tony MacAlpine - all guitars, keyboards, & acoustic pianos Barry Sparks - bass Steve Smith - drums

the most pleasant surprise of the album is the performance turned in by steve smith. he displays yet another avenue of playing with which he can navigate in & out of quite effortlessly. for those of you that are only familiar with his playing in journey, i encourage you to check out his jazz/fusion project called vital information. the man has endless chops, but done with complete finese & taste. this latest project with tony macalpine further broadens his genres. oh yeah, by the way, the name of the album (sorry for not listing it earlier!!) is "chromaticity". enjoy!!!

    peace, eric

I really haven't seen that subject posted before, so here goes..

If you notice on the DVD, on the "Little Drummer Boy" section of Erotomania (specifically around 5:42), MP in his bliss of soloing loses control of his drumstick at some point. Of course there's nothing wrong with that, with the heat and all one could easily drop his drumstick many a times, but you GOTTA see his expression on his face at that moment. It's a classic. It's a "oh sh*t this thing is being filmed and I f*cked up in the midst of my solo" kinda expression. Timeless :)

Maybe MP wanted this thing as is on the DVD on purpose instead of editing it out, who knows :)

    Cheers, Aris aka dreamer

I believe Mike actually commented on it in the commentary bonus of the DVD

Actually, the bonus features on the DVD (of which Erotomania is a part) don't have any commentary, so I don't know how he'd be able to comment on that event ;)
