Maurice I think a few reasons you haven't seen many comments about this
situation are many. Many people receive the Ytsejam in digest form (myself
included), in addition to many of us having posted about the topic on the
various message boards, discussion groups, etc. Additionally, it's all still so
vividly fresh in our minds that sometimes composing a succinct thread on it
seems a distant concern, but I for one agree with everything you wrote. Being a
NY'er, this hits very close to home (but, not, obviously, as close as it does
to those who lost family, friends, or were directly victims of the chain of
events). Just viewing the shots of the disintergration of the WTC brought a
huge knot into my stomach. That spectacle enough made me naseous as anything
else. Being no fan of GWB I hope he does act appropriately and prudently at the
same time. The vast majority of negative consequences that can arise here will
do so in the ensuing pandemonium and chaos. Redemption is necessary, of course,
but so it the concept of absolute certainty as to whom we will retaliate
against. More importantly, the pride of the country must be maintained without
creating an all-encompassing Arab-bashing atmosphere or event. The victims of
this tragedy are the most deserving of our immediate responses, I think. Like I
mentioned previously, the movie THE SEIGE seems to have some relevance to what
    has occured.

people in all over the world share your pain, mourn with you and contain
enormous amount of anger among those cowardly acts that caused thousands of
    tragic loss of human lives.

I've been hearing rumors around here about Scenes From New York being
pulled of the shelves because of the tragedy... Anyone have any

For those of you who don't realize it, the logo on the DVD and album

Sorry if this is a dupe post or anything, I'm fairly new to the ytsejam

I think it's an eerie coincidence that the new live CD
was released the same day as those horrific attacks,
    given the cover art.

Buy it, and crank Disc 2, Track 2 for those affected
    by yesterday's tragedy.

This situation was extremely scary for me in a few ways. The area i live in,
is directly, in the middle of everything that went on. I live in
northeastern maryland. About 45 minutes from Washington D.C., and, when we
got the news, from teachers at my high school, that this had happened, it
was extremely grim around school. We also got out of school at 12:15, and
almost had off the next day as well. The town i live in is also right next
to one of the biggest army test grounds in the world, Aberdeen Proving
Ground. So, everyone around aberdeen felt uneasy for the rest of Tuesday,
and some still today. Another scary thing i have to point out is, how, my
father is on a buisness trip, in Los Angeles right now, and, was staying at
the Los Angeles airport, untill, they evacuated the whole entire airport.
Luckily, nothing happened there, and he is fine, but, may not be coming home
on time, because of the Airline situation. So, this situation hit sort of
close to home, with me and my family, but, not nearly as much as the family
of the victims. I feel for everyone, and give them my love, and hope, that
no one, takes this for granted. Thanks for your time.

I think that the Ytsejammers are in shock from the events
yesterday. I know that I feel alternately nauseous, angry and
disbelieving. Suddenly, talking about your favorite band doesn't
seem so important. Instead we're spending time with our friends
and families and doing things like making appointments at the local
blood bank to contribute what help we can.

    Dear Jammers,

Just to add to Mauricio's email; I would like to express my deepest
condolensces to any Jammers, and indeed any friends and relations to
Jammers, affected by this tragedy from myself and all fellow
Australians. I work at a University where we have just had 600+ American
study abroad students arrive for the beginning of semester last week.
Overnight, the University kicked into action and set up counselling
clinics and free international phone and internet access for the US
    students.

Despite the fact that all these horrific events unfolded thousands of
miles away, it has shattered us, just as it has shattered the rest of
    the civilised world.

Again, my deepest sympathies to all US Jammers,

My deepest sympathy and condolences to all Americans in the Jam. May God give strength to you all to face this terrible disaster. For the first few minutes of the CNN broadcast, I could not believe my own eyes. It was so unreal. Some Indonesians were also confirmed dead. My company's NY office is located not that far from the World Trade Center.

    Hello all:

Well, this is my official farewell letter. I no longer have time to read this every day (I over a week behind as it is) with all of my homework and soon-to-be job, so I'm unsubbing. I almost hate to leave, what with the cool music I've found due to this list (Blind Guardian, Nightwish, Iced Earth, the list literally goes on for quite a length), but I also realize that this list isn't what it once was. I hardly ever hear about DT anymore, and half of what is said about OFB is derogatory anyway. Well, best wishes to you all, and I hope that this list someday regains the glory it once had.

    Happy Progging!

    Mark

The rock band Dream Theater and its record company, EastWest, are contemplating whether to withdraw that group's new album, "Live Scenes From NY," because of similar cover art.

That album, released Tuesday, depicts the World Trade Center towers and the Statue of Liberty engulfed in flames and perched atop an apple draped in barbed wire.

"It's an unfortunate coincidence, an eerie coincidence," said Gihan Salem, a spokeswoman for EastWest, an imprint of Elektra Entertainment under AOL Time Warner Inc.'s Warner Music Group. She said a decision on whether to recall the album would be made in a day or two.

It is in stores, as is Mullmuzzler 2. I now have both.

Since the triple live was released on Tuesday, and was most likely on shelves before anything happened, they didnt pull it. However, I suppose if it was released next week, as it was originally shceduled to, it would've definitely been pulled. They've already postponed the release of an upcoming rap CD with a similar image on the cover.

Heh, too bad the grammar in the article was so bad ;)

For those who are too lazy to go to the website, here's the DT-related info:

    > Prog-metal heavyweights Dream Theater are considering pulling its new > concert album, Live Scenes From New York due to the artwork. Released > Tuesday, September 11th, the cover portrays the World Trade Center > twin towers, the Statue Of Liberty, and the New York skyline > surrounded by flames. The band's label, EastWest Records, is currently > putting together a plan for how to deal with the mistimed release and > now-questionable artwork in the wake of yesterday's terrorist attacks > and mass destruction in New York. A decision on whether or not to pull > the album from shelves should be made this week.

Of course, that should either say "Prog-metal heavyweight Dream Theater is considering pulling its new concert album," or "Prog-metal heavyweights Dream Theater are considering pulling their new concert album". Can't be mixing case now, can we? :)

Anyway, enough of the grammar lesson. I think that it's a mixed issue. On the one hand, you're trying to put a meaning to something that really isn't there, but on the other, it's such a sensitive issue, considering the date of the release. If I were the band, I'd have a lot of trouble trying to figure out what I was going to do. Thankfully, I'm NOT the band.

    >< I've been hearing rumors around here about Scenes From New York being pulled of the shelves because of the tragedy... Anyone have any confirmation?

    From dreamtheater.net:

Here is a message from Mike Portnoy written on September 11th, 2001: We are all OK.... We began mixing yesterday in NYC and all went home last night after the sessions. The only people still in NYC this morning are James and Kevin Shirley who are both OK... Our sessions today are obviously cancelled as NYC is sealed shut and we will return to NYC to continue whenever it re-opens.

In regard to the live album's cover art, I can only say that it is a horrible coincidence that we obviously could have never forseen. The timing of the release of the CD happening on the very same day as this tragedy is merely an incredible coincidence. We are currently in discussions with the label as to whether or not we will recall the CD's and replace them with a different cover. Obviously, the recovery of everybody's personal lives here in New York is the first priority

Thank you to all concerned, Mike Portnoy

I would also like to extend my condolances to those affected by this unimaginable act of terror.

A personal thought I had when I watched the WTC towers collapse live - even though I'm not from the US - was: what about the rescue workers; the firefighters and the police officers and the rest of those trying to save the people trapped inside? Hundreds of 'heroes' were killed trying to save other innocents... Sick.

I saw two girls standing next to the main road used to bring rescue workers in and out of 'ground zero' holding posters they had made that said: Thank You, New York's Heroes. Thank you, girls, for being there and giving them the respect they deserve.

You already answered your own question, the server is down. Which is the case, you be patient and wait a while....

Maybe Mark is busy removing all burning-tower images from the DT web site. Or else maybe this "publicity" has overloaded the web server.
