I hear ya dude, but I think this was the only real way o put out the release
without having to resort to the double thick plastic cases of yesteryear. At
any rate, if necessary, get some empty plastic cases and put the LSFNY CDs
in there.

I dunno if you have it or not, but LSFNY is not the first one to have this
kinda packaging. Rush did it with Different Stages - and there you had to
deal with the extra CD being in a separate (detached) slip case that could
easily fall out of the package unless it's gripped firmly. And now QR's Live
Evolution is in the same exact packaging style that Different Stages was
(minus the 3rd CD), so you have 3 packages to be upset over. :p

/me is just happy to have the whole friggin' show released...

I agree. The packaging on LSFNY does indeed suck. I look at the
situation like this. It obviously costs more money to package cds with
gem cases than cardboard ones. We should be thanking our lucky stars
that Elektra supports our boys like they do. Now, having said that,
Rush --Different Stages gets my vote for worst packaging ever. That
damned third disc ALWAYS falls out!

Yes indeed, I found the solution yesterday.
I went up and got one of those thick 3CD cases from a local record
store, cut the cardboard sleeve and bingo, no more worries.

Well I will seek out the normal jewel case version of the live QR.

In any case I hate any CD that comes as a digipak, theose cardboard
sleeves all have short life spans. I wonder if they are any cheaper to
produce than the jewel case version ?

Me too, I certainly wasn't wanting to sound spoilt or anything :)

NP - Tool - Sydney 26-07-01 bootleg [one of the best live shows I've
ever seen, not to mention one of my best ever recordings :) ]

Pink Floyd's latest is there Anybody Out there? (the ltd edition with deluxe packaging..)deluxe packaging? great photos and all....but the cd's get ruined there pretty quickly. The pulse case is the same. It's a little bit annoying to get separate cases just for the cd's. But i love the artwork!

I'm sorry to say that the LSfNY has to be the worst album packaging I've ever seen for a CD. Out of nearly 2000 cd's that I own, this is the most awkward and pain in the ass album to get the cd's out.

Best regards, Graham mailto:gjboyle@optushome.com.au

Graham, keep in mind that Mike had to really push the record label to get them to release a 3 CD set. The packaging might have been a compromise.. .

I am sure that it is much cheaper to crank out a large number of purely cardboard cases than triple jewel cases (both in manufacturing and shipping)... but, you can always pick up replacement jewel cases for not too much, here is a link for a site that has some triple jewelcases: http://www.sleevetown.com/triple-cd-case.shtml

I put my LSfNY in a slim line double and one regular jewel case, but I might order a few triples now that I found this site.

I also put my Live QR CDs into a slimline double, but I don't think I'll be cuttin up the original case to use in the new case... but I might do some nice scans and color print some artwork for the new cases...

Also, I sort of started checking out other alternatives to the jewel case (and DVD cases), mainly to save space with large collections... these two companies sell sleeves that look really cool, but it can be costly... about $.50 each (that adds up pretty quick if you plan on doing 500-1000 CDs!): DiscSox - http://www.mmdesign.com/ Jewel Sleeve - http://www.jewelsleeve.com/index.html

I think I may just stick with jewel cases and get a rack like this: http://amos.catalogcity.com/cc.class/cc?main=catalog&pcd=1035167&trk=featured&ccsyn=15

Figured this type of info might be useful to a few people on here... ;-)
