I know that I haven't posted in a LONG time but I thought that this was a great thread to put my .02 on. This band totally kicks ass. Now, I must admit that I was weary of putting stock in a band made up of two comedic actors who play accoustic guitars, but I was MORE than pleasantly surprised. Now, you have to take into account that Tenacious D is meant to be funny and entertaining, but you have to look at the talent that surrounds the band as well. Kyle Gass is a great guitar player, surprising for someone who makes his primary living from acting. Jack Black has an amazing voice... one that surprises you when you hear it. I never thought a guy that played only losers in the movies could have such a great voice.
Their most recognizable radio hit (at least where I'm from) has been "Wonderboy" (you might recognize it now). I recommend downloading an MP3 or two and then picking up the album.. well worth the money.

I thought it would be a good comedy cd when it came out, but these two are
actually pretty talented. Not that it matters much, because it is just
hilarious. Yep, Dave Grohl is back on drums for them. Great stuff. I saw
them open for Kid Rock about a month ago. It was their second show on the
tour(Louisville, KY). Fourth row seats courtesy of the local radio station.

Anyway about halfway through the show they broke into "Chop Suey" by System
of a Down. Just hearing them do heavy metal on acoustic guitar is great.
But he sang the first two words - "wake up!" then mumbled the rest until the
refrain then sang the refrain real loud because it was the only part he
knows, well anyone knows. Who knows what the fuck he is singing in that
song. Anyway after he mumbled through the next verse they cut off in the
middle of the song and Jack Black declared that it was a great song but the
record buying public was suckered into buying it. He said something like -
how can you relate to a song that you can't even understand? He said he
prefers songs that he can understand the lyrics and relate to them, so then
they broke into "Summer of '69" by Bryan Adams. Fucking hilarious.

But whomever said it before, they are better live than on the cd. You just
don't get the energy they put into it on the cd.

Lastly, Kyle Glass is also sproadically on undeclared on fox. An excellent
    show that is terribly underrated.

-p.s. kid rock was pretty entertaining. I was looking forward to T.D more
than him but it was a blast. I bet any concert would be fun in the fourth
row of a place that holds 23,000 sold out.

It is interesting to note that is is claimed that "nobody shares their
files" on Kazaa. Right now, 225 million files (1,4 terabyte) are shared,
and sometimes it's even 1,6 terabyte. Morpheus, at its peak, was 1
    terabyte.
I use Grokster, which also makes use of the same (FastTrack) network.
It's ace. I've found almost anything I wanted, including for example the
    DT "Master of Puppets" tracks.
Grokster does use adware/spyware. However, it can be got rid of. Check
    out http://www.project-insomnia.com/grokster.html
Grokster is absolutely the best. I've tried the Gnutella type clients,
but they are very slow, result in a *lot* of network traffic and there
aren't enough people there. Grokster has 1.1 million users at the
moment. And lots of high quality DVD rips in the movies department.
     Just my 2 cents.

The most recent version of AudioGalaxy that I installed allows you to choose not to install the Gator spyware. I recommend that option. ;-) I also second Wrath's recommendation of using Ad-Aware (www.lavasoft.com) to remove any spyware from your system. It works nicely and is very easy and fast to use. It removes many different types of spyware and is a good way to check your system for any that you might have accidentally installed. I use AudioGalaxy and it works well for mp3s.

You can grab some samples from my wife's web page: http://jamie.interzone.com/ They are a hilarious band and if you can catch their show which used to play on HBO then that's a good way to be introduced to them. While their lyrics are tongue in cheeck, the music and vocals are great. Let us know what you think.

Keyword: "trying" I would argue that it's not at all entertaining because Mosh's insults are so stupid. They're meaningless, cookie-cutter schoolyard taunts on the level of "your mama" jokes, that succeed (and I use the term loosely) only in insulting all the wrong people (i.e. gays, victims of child abuse, etc.) Okay, I'll shut up now.

By the way, thanks for the audiogalaxy tip.

I was using Winmx for sharing, now I use Audiogalaxy. The people on Winmx are snobby and won't share things with you if you don't have what they want, at least thats my experience. By the way, isn't KaZaA the one where you agree to let a company use your unused disc space for storing stuff? I guess we should read those pesky agreements before we download.

Yeah, I read about that on Saturday. Damn... Although I never considered AIC a 'grunge' band, they put out some great music, and as far as I'm concerned have some deep credentials for elevating that style of metal into the stratosphere, however distinctly short their career as a band lasted (well, 7+ years isn't that short in this day and age)... I just wished they had kept it together and maintained artistic integrity and musical journeys.

As for Tenacious D, well, I prefer my Jack Black as an actor! lol

Right. AudioGalaxy asks you IF you want to install that Gator package. You click No and enjoy the install. No spyware.

This is for whoever said that Yngwie and Satch aren't on friendliest terms, with some other insteresting exerpts I found, including from a simultaneous interview of Vai and Yngwie.

    Malmsteen regarding Satriani:

"I've heard some of Satriani's stuff. I think he's really good." (Hot Metal Magazine)

    Malmsteen regarding Vai:

"Steve's playing has a strong character. There are plenty of skilled guitarists, but few have their style as a calling card. You can tell it's Steve in one second." (Young Guitar)

    Vai regarding Malmsteen

"You know, Yngwie gave me a lot of inspiration. It's not simply a compliment. If he keeps going, he'll be one of those guys who have their names in history. I have all his albums and I listen to them." (Young Guitar, same interview)

    Satriani regarding Malmsteen

"Thank God for Yngwie." (speaking about the influence Yngwie has had on guitarists)

Ah! But what does Vai have to say about Satch and vice-versa? ;-)
