    Hi,
sorry for the confusion, I think I meant the Barcelona show, of which the MoP mp3's were floating around. I saw the covers on ebay, just before the auctions were pulled.

Um...Paul Northfield is a long time friend of the band who engineered several of their albums - THAT'S why he was chosen to co-produce "Vapor Trails," not because he produced Hole and Marilyn Manson. (Northfield also worked with Yes back in the mid-70s alongside Eddy Offord.) And Geddy Lee, to my knowledge, has never disavowed prog or "Xanadu" in any way, shape or form. In fact, when asked which album in his collection he would like to have on a desert island, he chose Yes' "Relayer."

No, he never slammed proggers, I just feel like they have moved away from that scene a bit.

Indeed, Neil labeled the bands involved as "garage bands," if I remember my almost-ancient history correctly. I thought that was a bit unfair to names like DT, Fates Warning and, say, Steve Morse...so much so that I, a Rush fan since Moving Pictures came out, boycotted Test For Echo for a week after its release. --And on the Ytsejam at least, I wasn't alone.

This is one reason why I'm not as deeply affected by the impending release of Vapour Trails -- and the just-revealed Atlanta tourdate, October 13th -- as I used to be about ANY new Rush news. The fact that "One Little Victory" seems like a weak single doesn't help much, either.

In the years since I've discovered DT, joined this mailing list and found a myriad of really cool, talented bands -- and the occasional stinker -- I've realized that there are many bands out there who are Rush's equals, and some that, wonder of wonders, can even rise above. This would have been unthinkable to me in 1992. It is unthinkable no longer.

    > But wouldn't it > have been great if DT was asked to open the tour with an hour long set?

That's about 1.4 6DoIT's..... About 2.1 ACoS's..... For DT, a one-hour set would be a travesty. And yet..... > It would have been great exposure for the band, not to mention > recognizing DT as one of the best progressive bands out there right now. > I think it would have been great exposure for Rush as well, recognizing > the new sound of progressive rock and crediting the genre that made them > so big.

..this is all true. But as others have observed, Rush hasn't been All About Progressive for some time now. Oh, well. They may have released one of the weaker songs from the new CD as the first single. For Rush, this is almost a tradition, IMO. Time will tell. :)

Well, what was the last strong single Rush released? Hell, look at the Chronicles Cd. Rush released some really strong stuff, back then, assuming those songs off of Chronicles were singles. What did we get from Counterparts? Stick it out? Ugh. I like the song, but geez, Cut to the Chase was so much better than that. And we got Test for Echo from TFE, and yet Driven kicked that song's ass, not to mention time and motion. I hope that VT has better songs than One little victory, as much as I like parts of it, I am just left a little cold by it. I agree with some others when I say that I miss the keys and the cool Neil Peart drum parts and the off time sigs and shit like that.
