There's a compliation that I've created when I want to provide an
introduction to DT (which actually happens often than you might think, but
that's cuz I talk abooot DT alot). I dunno if I would categorize this as a
"Best of" or "Greatest Hits" but more of a chronology. For anyone curious,
the tracklisting is:

FYI, I included the Big Medley since it gives people a good idea of what
their influences are. Also, where I've listed "personal edit" - those are
edits I've done, so that I can squeeze more tracks on to each 80min CDR (and
they both are filled up to at least 79.5 minutes). Over time, the track
listing has changed as I try to include something from each of their
official releases (used to have the Scarred/Darkness of Winter/Ytsejam
portion from OiaL, but it took up too much space). I've also done other
samplers for people, catering more towards a particular style of music they
are into (heavy stuff, poppier stuff, etc.)
Anyway, I think the only way there could ever be a DT "Best of" would be at
lesat a 2 CD set, but preferably more. OTOH, I don't think I'd want them to
do a "Best of" at all, but rather a box set of rare stuff, along the lines
of what Steve Vai is doing - with all the stuff in Mike's vaults, I'm sure
you could easily fill up 4 or 5 CDs.

It's live on the original album. I don't think there was ever a studio

I know that there have been a lot of posts on the Jam lately about Rush's reaction to the 'Working Man' tribute. Yes, it is well known that Rush were wary of the Magna Carta tribute album and that Neil had disparaged the album with his "bar-band" remarks. However, I do NOT recall seeing a single post in this thread talking about how this [perceived] conflict was resolved.

Geddy Lee: That's a good question. Number 1, there was a lot of confusion about that tribute album, that we had tried to stop it which was really not the case at all. When that project was first brought to our attention, it was mentioned that this record label was releasing an album and the only thing we knew about it at the time was that this record label seemed to be in the business of releasing tribute albums. So, we simply asked for some verification whether this was a real tribute album or whether someone was trying to exploit our fans by throwing some Rush songs on an album. And that was really all that whole thing was about, and I really regret that it got blown out of proportion by many different people, and in the end I think it probably must have hurt feelings of band members and musicians that played on the album. So that's something that I regret and really was not our purpose to cast aspersions on that effort, it was really a great honour for anyone to do a tribute and it wasn't a bias against tribute albums because Neil spent quite a long time, effort and energy doing 2 volumes of a Buddy Rich tribute album, so it was just an unfortunate miscommunication, and something that we regret.

Uh, more accurately, it was the Fanta-Seeya! Diner. Get it right!
I'll never forget pulling up in the parking lot at about the same time everyone was getting kicked out, and there was someone out in the parking lot yelling "Where is Bafu! I wanna kill him!!"
Bafu, in the back of the car next to me, just scrunched lower and lower in the seat.... :)
We walked inside only to be told to leave almost immediately. Not only did the owner not want us milling around and socializing between tables, but we looked to be gentiles and he was apparently Jewish. Or something like that. Whatever, we ended up across the street at a Subway or something. I remember the snow was mounded 8 feet high in the parking lot from the snowplows. :)

Hey JAMmers, I think if there were to be a best of cd , PMU is neccesary, because obviously it is their "Greatest Hit " I know when I buy a best of or greatest hits album of an artist I'm not familiar with I tend to do so because of a song from radio or something a friend has played. Now for instance I'm sure Jim Croce has some excellant work I have never heard and more than likely some amazing bootlegs exist but I'm not ikely to buy anything else by him, Time in a Bottle and Bad Bad Leroy Brown are just a couple of his songs that I like but they are the 2 that sell. PMU is the one song that when I say Dream Theater the uninitiates say OH Yeah OK now I know who your talking about. True Story I was jamming with some dudes last week when, taking a break DT was mentioned and the drummers wife said she hated them cause they only played covers. I almost shit fact is I spat beer. She had only heard the live part of Change of Seasons. I promptly went to my car and whipped out my drive to work DT cd I've burned with my favs on it. Now I'm not gonna list my favs cause who cares but it does include PMU because people do recognize it, btw she had a much different opinion of DT before I left. As far as prononcing ytsejam I agree with Lisa Marie Palma, phoenitically speaking---- majesty backwards -- maj = jam .. es = seh ty = eet . It's not how it's spelled rather than how it's pronounced forward isn't it ? Then again what do I know I didn't come up with either word. Also it's late and I'm listening to coast to coast am . G'Day All! The best would simply to be the following, just wait a couple of studio albms and then release a double live-album again. A best of album with DT is not easly done with ACoS of SDoIT - the song. Also since CD's are ca. 80 minutes long, it's pretty hard for DT to come up with 7-8 songs that would fit.
Maybe down the line, as mentioned, the cool thing ti do would be for DT to record the old songs anew, and make it double. That way Mike could get the drum sound on I&W songs right, James could do some WDADU, and JM could be heard on the whole album.

I, too, have made the traditional greatest hits/sampler CD for folks and here is what I've SQUEEZED onto 1 CD. Please note I did focus on the more "user friendly" songs.

Correct. There is only the live version that appeared on TYA. No studio version was ever officially released.

Unless DT lulls in creative energy, I wouldn't expect a "Best of..." for some time, and would be saddened if it ever came to that.>
And it wont, due to the fact that 6doit was the last cd due to elektra under the current contract if im not mistaken. I cant see the label ever getting rid of DT, ala the way capital fucked megadeth. Originally the world needs a hero was supposed to be the last cd, hell capital even pressed promos for it (hence how the cd got out on the net 2 years b4 it came out) THen they decided "we arent promoting this, here is your album, well take two songs for a GH, have a nice life)
