Hey guys, I've run across a couple Tool tribute albums and am wondering your
impressions of them before I purchase one or both.

    They are:

"Third Eye Open: String Tribute to Tool" (Orchestral)
    and
"Tribute to Tool" by various Dark Wave/Industrial/Goth bands

    Any comments?

I'll tell you only if you correct the spelling error
in your sig. It's shining, not shinning. :)

Go to www.vcdhelp.com and go to the convert section
and it will give you instructions on how to do all of
the stuff you are looking to do.

    Take care,
    Adam Perkowsky

i have this, and it's pretty damn good... similar
to many of the other stringed tributes and the
apocalyptica records, too... but good nonetheless.

as for the other one, i can't say. some tribute
albums really blow... try to find some place that
has a way to listen before you buy...

After writing about Meshuggah in my last post, I might get sued for giving you
guys whiplash, but a man's gotta post when a man's gotta post!

Alanis Morissette's new album "Under Rug Swept" is even better than her
previous efforts in my book, and I feel guilty as hell for burning it as a CD
full of mp3's but I'm sure I'll purchase the real album eventually.

Here's my thing. In her song, "Hands Clean" there's this very distinct and
annoying "warbling" going on throughout the song. Every mp3 I can find has
this warbling going on and I'm wondering if it's intentional or if it's just a
    bunch of bad mp3's.

If it's intentional, all I have to say is what an effective way to ruin a great
    song!

Can anyone verify if this warbling happens in the album version? Thanks!

    - Dave

    hey there dave,
none to fear. i've got the entire album on mp3 too, however
there's a distinct difference with how i got my copy. i burned it
directly from the cd, obtained at the local library here (4 cds at any
given time, and they keep current. hell, they even have
Operation:LiveCrime Remastered! good way to get LOTS of free music).
anyhow, i fired up my mp3 of it as i read your post, and i'm glad to say
that it's not a problem with that particular song, just with the shit
mp3's that you've been unfortunate enough to stumble across.

I think he was referring to the complete lack of decay/reverb of the last note, not the fact that the songs ends when you don't expect it.

http://www.dtfaq.com/ I didn't know about this URL until just now, but it seems to be really good, and it's actually maintained! Anyway, it says there: "The song intentionally cuts off like that, because part of the song deals with how sudden death can be." I think that applies sonically as well as ending on a weird beat.

I heard the samples from Fredrik Thordendal's Special Defects - "Sol Niger Within Version 3.33.", and they sounded awesome. I also heard the samples from Meshuggah, and I liked Fredrik's better, especially because there were no raspy vocals on those. Are there any Meshuggah type vocals on Fredrik's solo album? If there aren't any, or at least not many, I think I'm definitely getting that cd. The samples sounded like a very heavy and crunchy fusion. Damn those were good samples... Any help? Also, what's the best place to get the cd (ie. the least expensive)?

Brilliant album, eh? Heads over everything she's done before. Anyway, there is no warble on my mp3 of "Heads Clean" (nor on the album itself, which I finally bought a couple of weeks ago).
