Hey,
I just heard that DT is coming to Pittsburgh -- I could hardly
believe it when the DJ on WDVE says the words "Dream Theater". Cool.
Too bad the tickets have been on sale so long that there are only
'obstructed view' seats left. Sigh.
Any Pittsburgh Ytsejammers headed to the show? Any have a couple
extra tickets (for me and my wife)... ;-)

Paul Cashman, in his infinite wisdom, said this about the Tabernacle:
> It's weird. Some praise the venue for its sound, some don't. I heard
> that Satch sounded great, DT was so-so, and King's X started out muddy
> but improved. I like the place m'self.
Wow - I can't believe I'm posting to the 'Jam again. It's been at least a year, I'm sure, and probably another year before that. A looooong time since my first post in, what, '95-'96? Phwew! :-)
Paul's right - some people love the Tabernacle and some people hate it. For me, the difference in sound is all about the balconies. For this show, I started out in the third tier with my brother and a friend of his, because he has tendonitis in both Achilles' tendons (ouch!) and can't stand for long. The sound was shrill on the top end, muddy on the low end, and just lacked bass in general. I couldn't take it after King's X and bailed out on my bro' to find greener pastures. The sound was better on the second tier, but still a bit muddy. I ended up on the floor leaning against the bar (woohoo!) dead center about 5 feet behind the soundboard. Sound was MUCH better (as you'd expect being directly behind the board). The only complaint I had was a very slight echo coming from the ceiling (because the board is covered by the first balcony).
Basically, if you're the sitting down kind of concert goer (and you'd better have a damned good excuse for sitting during a DT show), the Tabernacle is not for you unless you're dead center in the first balcony (which requires you getting in line somewhere between 4am and 5am the day before the show). :-)
Sorry I missed ya, Paul.
'till next year... :-)
Adam

hey steve,
yes & no. yes, there will be other pittsburgh jammers there. no,
i don't have any extra tickets. there's 3 of us going, and as far as i
know, all 3 are still planning on it. however, since your from the `burgh
(i assume, at least), i'm going to ask you if you've ever seen a show at
the Palumbo Center?? i've been to quite a few, and even if it says
"limited view" on the seating chart, the ones i've had in the past haven't
wound up being bad at all. so, if i were you, i'd take a stab at it
anyway. if you wind up getting tickets after all, then email me off list
& we'll see what we can do about a couple `o jammers hooking up pre-show.

Hey Jammers:
Looks like someone is trying to sell on Ebay an
historic piece of rock history in the form of Neil
Peart's drumkit used in the Signals, Grace under
Pressure and Power Windows.
Check it at:

We regret to announce that Dream Theater have been forced to cancel the
appearance on the CBS Morning show. The show was only able to provide us
with a performing situation that would have been "musically compromising"
and one which would have given an improper representation of the band and
its music.
We're sorry to be disappointing any fans that were looking foward to the
show, but to be honest we were hoping to not even make this possible
appearance public until further information was provided to us first and
unfortunately the information was prematurely leaked on Elektra's website.

I had a very different view on the concert. From the balcony, no one in the
theater was standing except the first four rows. Most would stand after each
song. DT played amazingly as usual but their sound was out of sync. The
guitar, keyboard & James bordered on ear peircing at times. The sound guys
didn't blend the sound well at all. I really didn't like the Rosemont
Theater for a rock show. Please don't do that again. Go back to a standing
room venue. I was glad to see Kings X. They were alright and Satch-a great
guitar player but way too long. I could have done with 3 or 4 songs. Some
great rythems but too much guitar. DT didn't play The Glass Prison but did
play in some order.

Yep. That would be an original song by RUSH, covered by Dream Theater.

What do you want to bet CBS asked them to play to a recording rather than
play "live"? I'm sure the Morning Show doesn't have the kind of equipment
to produce a live act like Dream Theater.
Oh well... It would have been weird anyway. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if it was this, since I would imagine they would
play any song CBS asked them to or for any amount of time (BTW, MP has
confirmed that it was NOT a time issue but won't say much else on the
matter), but since CBS was asking them to betray their integrity, it would
have to be something like this, that was so outrageous that they had to
turn them down.
