Yea, it's all crap anyway. :)

Yea, that's how I remember it. Excellent show and thankfully not too
packed. Did Einstein or Rudess-Morgenstein open that show?

Hahahahahaha..... Five hours is NOTHING in the annals of
waiting-for-a-DT-show history. Some of those Bitch Hell/Malibu Beach
Club/Jaxx shows were HELL. Back then, it seemed like it took the crews
FOREVER to do set-changes. You learn quickly not to eat or drink much
    before a show. :)

It's weird. Some praise the venue for its sound, some don't. I heard
that Satch sounded great, DT was so-so, and King's X started out muddy
but improved. I like the place m'self.

Nope. I stayed right by the railing during all of DT's set. After they
finished I decided to let a more serious Satch fan have my spot. I like
Satch, but I was dying of thirst by this point. :))

No, some of us are dicks. :)

Well last night in Rosemont was a night full of puzzled lows and insane highs.

King's X sounded very poor, I don't know if it was the sound guy's problem or if they were just playing badly, but I have never heard them sound like they did last night. I am originally from Austin, TX and have seen King's X several times in the past and they were sub-par last night to say the least. "It's Love" seemed to be draggingly slow as if the trio were struggling to hold it together.

Next up was Satriani, and he was very good as usual. We had a little monocular and my girlfriend kept cracking up at the facial expressions he was making whilst ripping out breathtaking sound from his guitar. He didn't really seem to move the audience out of their seats, though - this was definitely a DT crowd.

Dream Theater opened the set with "New Millenium" and proceeded to put on one of the best performances I have ever seen them deliver. They mixed it up throughout the evening, playing The Glass Prison and Blind Faith from SDOIT, as well as Solitary Shell later in the night. Take the Time near the end of the set was stunning, they were really having a moment of total clarity with that one. In short, the whole performance was insanely powerful and there was noone in the venue sitting down for an hour and a half. MP kept throwing drumsticks out into the crowd all evening, as well as breaking more than a few on his wickedly complex-looking drum set. I have to say I've seen DT on every tour since Awake, and they were as tight and in sync as I have ever seen them - Jordan Rudess has really meshed with the rest of the band. He ran down at the very end and was playing some sort of ethereal melody at the top end of Petrucci's guitar as John was shredding out the final notes. It was really fun to see them having such a great time and sounding so awesome. DT always seems to click with Chicago crowds, it was really an evening to remember.

I didn't see any obvious 'jammers, nor am I equipped to tape a show. If anyone knows if the show was recorded I would kill for a copy - truly incredible performance.

    Later,

    Rob Kasper
