YES!! Solitary Shell comes from Peter Gabriel. And The Great Debate takes its riffs from the same Tool song that HOME did!! And there's a lot more. Sometimes it's good to have influences and reshape some other band's material, but it's obvious on this CD that a lot of music was taken, AND IT STICKS OUT TOO MUCH in some places!!
I also don't know how to respond to 6doit. It has some great music, but just doesn't come close to being a classic. I actually think it's one of their weakest releases. Also, although it's two discs long, it seems short. I like the first disc because it's experimental and seems to be separate from the second. But I also feel that although the first disc is almost an hour long, it is still only five songs long. Just because the songs are long doesn't mean that it seems like a whole CD, IT JUST FEELS LIKE FIVE SONGS!!! Maybe it will sound better after a few weeks.

well, i don't really have a gripe about being able to take note of the
bands influences as is reflected in their songs, but i just thought that
for those of you that do, you should at least know that the Tool riff used
in "Home" was from the song "Forty-six & two" from Aenima. The Tool riff
used in "The Great Debate" however, is from the song "Sober" from
Undertow. Both are undoubtedly Tool riffs slightly revamped, but they are
deffinetly from two sepperate Tool songs. Thought you should at least
have the facts straight. :)
Personally loving 6DoIT,
eric

Which riff in Sober? I dont hear it.
i do hear the main riff that goes right about 1:58-2:15 "my shadow, changes coming thru my shadow, etc" in 46& 2 as the closest to the riff before James screams "life to save life!"

unfortunately, i'm not anywhere right now where i can listen to the song to doublecheck myself, but i believe the walking bass lines are very similar, not so much the vocal track. during the verses of Sober, the bass line i remember being very similar to the bass line that is being played in the section leading up to James' "life to save life!" section in TGD. i'm pretty certain, but like i said, i'll have to double check.
now curious, eric

I don't normally post here, but it was great to see DT not only get the lead review in today's Entertainment Magazine's Music section but also rewarded with a high rating (First "B" grade I've ever seen for a Prog release in this magazine....they usually blast any prog rock cd that they bother to review). Maybe there getting tired of reviewing all the sound-alike teeny bop/hip-hop/rap crap that's coming out these days (or, more likely, it was the only notable release this past week). Whatever the reason, it's always nice to get some positive pub for the otherwise unnoticed greatest band ever....

Sorry folks, just because a song has an acoustic guitar intro with a bass drum...doesn't make it a ripoff nor does it actually SOUND like Solsbury Hill. To sit and dissect this song or the Great Debate like this seems pretty damn silly. I thought you guys liked DT. Lighten up! It's just music!!! This is not rocket science here. :)

Yeah, I just downloaded that Peter Gabriel song and did not recognize any similarity to Solitary Shell. Maybe I'm just tone deaf :)
