yup, The Rock Show. saving graces can be found during that show to
provide refreshment from the majority-based modern day mindless B.S.
    that's on the "regular" rotation.

IIia, I totally agree with you. That's what I was trying to say before. All variations of music will have similarities. If only people will understand this. For example...Just because a DT song has the same tempo as Stairway to Heaven, and they use the world "and" and you know what? Hotel California uses that word too...oh my... They're DT...and they rock...and they're unique...even if they get their INSPIRATION from other musicians. Those other musicians are great too. They're not copying...inspiration is not copying. I'm glad others feel the way I do. Because I love DT because they are pure Progressive rock...at it's finest. And this cd does not sound like everything else. Although I'm glad that it gets good reviews from people who normally trash this kind of music-which is better than all their crap anyway.

Funny. But when a song sounds exactly like another popular song on the radio, and every time you hear it you start singing TOOL.... You think they'd say, OK, let's change this. ---

Man these guys are totally unoriginal. They use the same damn 12 notes everyone else uses. How pathetic is that?

And they use the same instruments. I mean, guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and vocals. That's been done to death already...

If they were really great, they'd be inventing new instruments for their music, which would use all new notes. I mean, they're just ripping everybody off right now.

If they can't invent new instruments, at the very least, they should make their own instruments and amps. Get this - you or I could buy the exact keyboard Jordan uses! Is that ridiculous? If he's such a keyboard wiz, why doesn't he build his own? And I hear some company named Yamaha builds Myung's basses. How very unoriginal.

It's no wonder you all think their songs sound like someone else. They're pathetic...

Buy the magazine in which it is published! Classic Rock, available from <http://www.futurenet.com/>. I highly recommend this magazine; it's the only real English-language newstand rock magazine aimed at the more "mature" audience, and it's quite open-minded about the kinds of music it covers. It ain't shy of featuring Dream Theater, anyway. :-)

    Hey!

    >What I'm trying to say here is, let's label Dream >Theater as Dream Theater, and not by labels of songs >that came before them.

You make a very good point. And I agree. However, even without the possible "rippoff?" aspect of these kinds of discussions, at some point there is going to be discussion of similarities, at least on this list. It's a grey zone, unfortunately, that can stray into what you would prefer to avoid.

I personally can't comment on any of the similarities, because I still don't own the album. *gulp*

And Bernd: thanks for posting the link to that trailer. I really enjoyed it. And I really wanted to see/hear more! I suppose that's the number one quality of a successful trailer/tease. I'm definitely looking forward to the new album. Good stuff happening in March (that and Vanden Plas).

I am SOOOO looking forward to this. The 2 songs they did at PP2.0 were killer, imo.

I just got the VP in the mail 5 minutes ago. Can't wait to put it on(I probably WILL wait until after the Don and Mike Show, though....hehe).
