    > We, the citizens (fans, supporters, fellow artistes, aficionados, connoisseurs, whatever the term of the day may be), are inundated with ridiculous (and rising) ambiguous fee's and surcharges from TICKETMASTER, which is one reason I don't attend many major events any longer. I don't want to support a
    > monopolized industry that is robbing from the citizens to feed their growing coffers, and offering nothing in return but a 'ticket'.

Err, this isn't quite true. For out-of-town ticket-buyers, Ticketmaster
offers universal access to concert tickets nationwide via their website,
obviating the need for a long-distance call to one of the regional TM
outlets to get a ticket, assuming you can get the number in time....
When you add their tour-date listings to www.pollstar.com's, you get a
pretty accurate look at all the dates on a tour, so in a sense TM's
    website is itself a 'service.'

    > Exchanges, refunds, and good customer service (if you can even get THAT far) are virtually unheard of, so, like with computer software, we pay inflated prices,
    > rationalized by 'customer services improvements' which is a load of rubbish, and the quality and quantity of service dwindles to what amounts to acceptable legal extortion.

I had a problem with a ticket that never arrived in the mail from
Ticketmaster, which was resolved at BB King's. I've gotten refunds from
them too, for good cause, like show-cancellations.

    > Look at the breakdown of prices that Kez posted: Verilly, almost 36% of a ticketprice is abstract corporate bullshit price
    > inflation without rhyme or reason, as far as I know. Where are the Deities of Justice and Compassion, I ask thee?

They're waiting for tickets to a show, in line at the box-office. Since
they're deities, they aren't feeling the cold. Are you so lucky?

I'm the first to say that TM's "service charges" are about 20-30% too
high. But saying that ALL you get from them is a ticket is silly.
Their website, keeping it current, etc., costs money. I don't begrudge
them -some- money so they can stay in business.

I second this recommendation. Light of Day, Day of Darkness is a killer album. If you're a fan of bands like Amorphis or Opeth, you are almost guaranteed to dig this album.

Speaking of Amorphis, Shape of Despair, featuring Amorphis' Pasi Koskinen, has a new album coming out. Outstanding atmospheric doom.

Whew, what a fun time and a great (if far from perfect) show! But who cares, I was there to see old friends, and meet new ones, too. :)

Emre was one I hadn't met in person yet. Great to finally meet you in person, man!

Pics from the show, as well as some tourist shots and some after-show zaniness, should now be posted in: http://www.dragoncon.org/private/dt-0102/

They get better as you go, since the crowd worked me closer and closer to the front, and I decided to start using my flash since everyone else was..... :)

The after-show pics are mostly MP.com regulars. I'm proud to say that a cheer went up for our own Skadz as well, after the show. :)

The setlist was posted (within 45 min.) on the MP.com Forum -- quite a few surprises, some happy returns and a few lamented omissions, but that's okay -- it's not like it was a 'real' show, after all, just a rehearsal. :)

This is an interesting article, for those following this whole development. http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/54/23736.html.

Got my tix to the 9:30 show this morning, from ticketmaster no less. Yes, I paid an extra 5 bucks, but it's getting delivered to my door. Who else is going to that show? Hope to see some of you all there.

i must say that i agree with your choice of FW songs, only to be possibly ousted by the 6th track from the same disc. the song "Still Remains" is an epic of a song, and is a true masterpiece IMHO. one of the most melodic and powerful FW moments is in this song, during the section where the lyric structure suddenly changes. i believe it's a good 10 or 11 minutes into the song, but i'm not exactly sure. if you own the disc (meaning liners, lyrics, etc..), wait for the "Where is the way / where is direction / the ever open arms / of over protection." section of the song. just see if i've led you wrong. i think not... :)

oh yeah, & by the way scott, i've had your cd for several months now, and have been absolutely blown away by it!! i know that i promised you an in depth review a while back, but life got in the way. so, never fear, the review is on it's way shortly! keep rocking.

You can add Pain Of Salvation and a host of others, it's got a lot of variety, for an album with 1 60 minute song :) I can highly recommend it.

Yes indeed, not for the faint hearted either, Pasi vocals are almost scarey on this album. You should also check out Pasi side project band, Ajattara, Pasi not only sings, but plays guitar and keys.

"Staffan did not want to play in Stratovarius anymore and he left one week before the band was supposed to play one gig in Aalborg, Denmark. Tuomo Lassila phoned to Timo Tolkki and asked him to join the band. Timo learned all the songs from cassette tape and after a few rehearsals the band travelled to Denmark."
