I saw the show in New Orleans, it was ok, I left in the middle of Della Brown cause I was tired and that kinda ended the show on a downer. I liked some of the remixed stuff, some i was kinda ehh. You cant make a pop fast song out of the Killing Words, it was cool though.

Id say go. Sucks though, he was playing his sax during songs liek Lady Jane, it got stolen however in NJ, so we missed that part of the show, and yes that bass player was cool as hell, played a fretless half the night. Also I think Geoff's lead guitarist 9chubby guy) should be the next QR guitarist. he NAILED the solos's, Real World was incredible.

I don't hear much tool in the new Rush album. There may be more
experimentation with different guitar type sounds and effects, and Geddy is
laying a lot of vocals, which he did on test for echo and his solo album,
and Neil is a little more laid back, but seems to be more lively than he
was on TFE, but I don't hear a lot of tool on the new Rush. It is
definitely their hardest output in years and it is different from anything
they have ever done, and it does take some getting used to, but songs like
One Little Victory, One sweet miracle and Ceiling unlimitted just kick too
    much ass to ignore.

    Game off:

    OFF-TOPIC SECTION:

Though I've been lurking somewhat (mostly for the reason that I recently relocated BACK to the NY area after a year stint elsewhere in parts unknown, USA), I figured I would be allowed a slight moment for a little self-indulgent appeal to any musicians or person(s) who may need a graphic artist (see links below).

I am he. And I am back to full operating status, barring no further weather (or war) related catastrophe's. If you ARE interested (in need of CD design, web design, logos, etc... ad naseum) contact me OFF forum at my email address (see above).

Ok, now before anyone flames me for this obvious self-promotional push, be aware that I did declare it off-topic, I am a semi-frequent poster with On-thread (if not off-my-rocker) posts, and I did imbibe a significant amount of Vanilla Coke today (man, stuff's addicting), and I am wearing a hawaiian shirt (non-Rush endorsed). I am not disgruntled in any shape, way or form.

As I know there are plenty of musicians and other persons who may need or have need of, in the future, a graphic artist, I figured, as a start to my new location, I would drop this slight bit of info really quickly, and as non-obtrusive as possible, hoping to keep belligerance and offended party hostility to a minimum.

Ok, that's it! Feel free to move about the cabin....

    Game on!

    ON-TOPIC Section:

The NEW ENGINE CD is great (featuring Ray Alder of Fates Warning), and I am quite impressed by what I've heard from Soilwork. I think there's a new ENCHANT CD being issued at some point, or am I mistaken in my Enchanted Blissfull thinking (sorry, bad pun... see Vanilla Coke comment above).

I'm also GLAD to see the new issue of PROGRESSION magazine finally on newsstands as well as in my hands (the accompanying CD is, at first listen, verrrrry interesting).

Unfortunately I didn't have the proper fundage to attend any RUSH shows this year, so I read all the posts regarding it with a touch of melancholy envy and enthusiastic splendor, in a misty-eyed stupor! The words 'wish I was there' do come to mind! And I'm still trying to get past the REALLY STRONG 3 tracks I enjoy on it (Earthshine, Nocturne, Out of the Cradle).

And I'm looking for some new independent progressive rock CD's to 'epiphanize'...

    ' Nuff said!

Sorry about the dead thread but it caught my eye. Dancing to prog: totally do-able, has been done. The only music that (I think) is undanceable is techno. Unless you know how to do the laser thing, but that can look dangerously close to simian if the wrong person's doing it. Word to the wise.

what exactly in the new rush is tool like? wtf! please point me to a track # and min because i honestly cant hear it

Track 6, "How It Is." Just kidding :-P

Seriously, the start of "Peaceable Kingdom" (Track 4 off of 'Vapor Trails') has a sound that is similar to one found on "Eon Blue Apocalypse" (Track 2 off of Tool's 'Lateralus').

Alex Lifeson has remarked that Tool was the only band whose record he bought and listened to during the writing and recording process for 'Vapor Trails.' Alex pretty much isolated himself from all external music in order to focus on developing a unique, Rush-like sound for the new album. Alex has also remarked in interviews about his love for Tool's music, live performance (even though he joked it was too short), and the people themselves (though I doubt he wrestled with Maynard James Keenan :-P).

Going back to DT: have you checked out the pic of Mike Portnoy with Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson? If not, you can find it here (courtesy of Scott Hansen):

greetings fellow jammers, i know a request like this doesn't surface on the jam real often, but i'll give it a shot anyway. i've got several DT boots that i desperately need to get the album art for. that apparently didn't come as part `o the deal when i traded for the boots. anyhow, here they are: - "The Dance Of Eternity", 3/4/1993 recorded at the Limelight, New York - "Nighttown Nostalgia", 6/22/1998 recorded at the Nighttown, Rotterdam - "Brotherly Deceit", 8/4/2000 recorded at the Electric Factory, Philadelphia *there used to be a link floating around for this one, but it's long since been lost in the shuffle. - "A Dream Fulfilled", 3/27/2002 recorded at the Beacon Theater, New York

if anyone could provide links to, or feels like uploading some high-res scans of these liners/art, i would be EXTREMELY grateful. contact me off-list at the above email addy.

also, concerning an actual boot, does anyone out there have: - "John Petrucci - G3", 7/16/2001 recorded at the Fleet Pavilion, Boston i had every intention of grabbing it from LITS, but we all know what happened to that site, may it rest in peace. anyhow, i had been able to grab a few of the tracks off of AudioGalaxy, but then i got shit-canned on that avenue as well. so, i'd much rather just try and get the full boot from somebody that would be willing to arrange a trade of some sort. contact me off-list at the above email addy.

    thanks a lot everybody!!

    -eric

P.S.- again, any jammers gonna' be at the Pittsburgh show on Sept.7th??

Well first off, they are VERY close to Tool. But whilst many call this a clone, I don't. Think about all the bands we listen to that are very "DT-like". Vanden Plas, Threshold, Shadow Gallery, etc. The thing is we are all pretty opened minded and see this as more of an "influence" kind of thing. I think the same holds for Earshot and their Tool influence. I'd rather here that than have them sounding like Limp Dickhead. On the CD, I think "Get Away" is the most out and out Tool like song, but it is also one of my faves on the disc. I got it off of Half.com. I think it's worth owning if you are into the style. End of sermon.
