Apparently *several* people know something I don't. :) Oddly enough, I kept
thinking I heard Kiske influences here and there on the disc but figured it
was just Toby imitating him. I guess I was wrong. Severely wrong. :)

I need to look more closely, then. I've read the story a time or two but
didn't go through most of the exhaustive credits list (who has time to read
that stuff unless you're actually one of the people that's credited?). hehe

I have to second Rick here. Even if I don't know my Avantasia (apparently),
I *do* know my Satriani, and I think "Flying" is Satch's best disc. It
certainly has some of his most memorable and best-written tunes. The thing
that some people object to is the fact that Satch sings on the disc.

Unfortunately, I just talked to Ken Golden about some other stuff and he
says that the disc probably won't be released until January. They're just
trying to finalize stuff with distributors and duplicators and the like and
he says that November and December are pretty much blackout periods for
releasing CDs. He is hoping to have some MP3s up from the disc pretty soon.

To the guy who said he has every Satriani disc except for FIABD, I don't know if you have a specific reason for not owning that disc, but I have heard that many people say it's probably his best work. My situation is completely the opposite of yours, since the only Satriani album I have is FIABD.
About OSI, could anyone post information regarding what the music is supposed to sound like? Where did you get that information about it sounding tool-ish? Please, don't send me a link to a webpage, since here at work I have email but can't access the internet (yet). Thanks in advance. By the way, what's the expected release date?

I wouldn't be disappointed if a band could actually pull it off.
The problem is that while some bands might be able to have Tool-ish
music they are lacking one thing: Maynard. He makes Tool, IMHO. Without
him they'd just be a good alternative/prog-metal band. With him they
are a musical force of nature. Very few bands have a singer who adds
to the music like Maynard does.

I'm certainly thinking about a road trip to Milwaukee. I'll have to
chat with the Warden and a few other friends and see who is game.
I suspect there is a 75% chance that my usual gang and I will make
that show. You bringing that cute girlfriend along for the fun? <evil grin>
Perhaps I can distract you and the Warden for a while and put the
ProGtologist moves on that sweet and innocent young morsel. :o)
I'll make sure and pack 5 pounds of corn starch and a pair of mouse
ears just in case...

I agree with that much. Maynard has one of the best voices out there.
However, I think Carey's incredulous drumming abilities adds a lot to the

Wherehouse Music store on Sunset & Labrea (7127 W. Sunset Blvd) in Los

conclusion.

just call them a blatant tool ripoff, and granted
ive only heard 1 song (get away? i believe its the title)
but they do sound way too much like a tool clone, almost like
an impersonation...

I was refering to the new Rush . And i do believe that whoever's tried to
sound like Tool has made a fool out of themselves . I find it disappointing
when great artists do no longer make the rules but follow them .

Some minor spoilers included.
We went to see Geoff at Steamboat in Austin last night. He was
scheduled to go on at 9pm, but there were a couple of opening acts so
he didn't start till around 11 and finished a little after 1am (I'm
getting too old for this :-)
This was Geoff in storyteller mode. The mood was set with candles,
lanterns, and incense all over the stage. They played some of their
new stuff and Queensryche songs that didn't get much feature time on
their tours (except for the overplayed Silent Lucidity). With the QR
songs, he had remixed them. I really really liked what they did with
them (especially The Thin Line). The band was really tight with a
lot of energy, e.g. the bassist jamming with a broken pinky (?).
go support this tour, it was fun!

supergroup line-up i was expecting of something new and different than what
i'd been hearing
lately . So now , a sub-conscious fear starts rising into surface , that all
bands i like
are gonna turn into one living blob that consumes everything in its path and
the next day
i'm gonna wake up next to one human sized squid . Oops,never mind ,another
one of those sub-fear-conscious thingies.
