I wonder if that is the same Mike Thaxton that used to be on this list?
I traded tapes (remember those things? :) with him about 4.5 years ago,
and he was supposed to send me a particular DT show, but he lost it. If
that's the same fellow, I'm glad to see he's doing well.
Take care,

the net is soooo weird...
the ytsejam being one of the main vehicles of news from DT, sometimes is so
slow...i dunno why nobody post it here yet...
since yesterday morning, the demo from Metropolis pt 2 with Derek Sherinian
has leaked on the internet ... yes it is true...the holy grail was found,
although it is not a complete version, you can get a good taste of it. The
MP and JP foruns have threads about it, if you're interested just do a
search on www.mikeportnoy.com & www.johnpetrucci.com and you'll find some
links of it...
the song is about 12 minutes, 9.9mb and has some static noises, but hey
better than nothing !!! happy hunting :)
Congratulations to Mr.Mike Portnoy.... he handled the situation very well
and even confirmed himself that the demo is not a hoax...

Why not post a link or two for those of us who don't go to "forums" ?

So people can bitch if it's a dead link or one that's exceeded its
bandwidth? It'll take you less than a minute to find the links on the
forums. Try it sometime.

I have the file but nowhere to host it..if someone wants me to send it to
them who can then make it available to the list en masse, e-mail me
(jax@ytseradio.com).

I'll gladly accept your complaint as I would do the same thing if I were in
your position. No worries.

Or maybe you guys could respect MP's wishes and don't spread this file
around. It was never meant to be released, and in fact was not released
by any band member (it was obtained by a third party and released). MP
doesn't want people hearing this, so why can't you just plain respect it.

Mike Portnoy had this to say on his forum yesterday via webmaster Mike Brown:
"Well, that is indeed *IT*!!!
(well, only about half of it...as the first 10 minutes or so are
missing....from the 0:30 second mark it cuts ahead about 10
minutes...skipping the entire section which became Overture 1928 as well as
a few other bits...)
As you can hear, there are still intact the parts that ended up becoming
the end of "Dance of Eternity" as well as almost all of "One Last Time"...
Well, at least you have the history of this as well as a taste of about 70%
of what the infamous Metropolis '96 Demo is!!!!
And I'm not mad....although, I didn't want this to ever get released
because it is live, under-rehearsed, loose as hell and incomplete (no
vocals), if it's out, it's out...there's really nothing I can do about
it...so I'm not gonna cry over spilt milk...
However, let it be known that *I* still will never release the complete
version...as that will then be perceived as it being released with the
band's "seal of approval"...which it never will be as it is not good enough
to meet our release's standards for all of the above reasons..."
