Saw this show Thursday night. I must say, whoever came up with the
brilliant (?) idea of sticking Kings X between these 2 bands needs to be
shot. Talk about a mismatch....as much as I like Kings X live, they just
didn't belong, and 95% of the audience seemed bored during their set.
That's OK tho...seeing Anders Johanssen play live from the front row of
the pit was killer...so I advise anyone that may be seeing this show, do
NOT miss Hammerfall. As cheesy as their songs and stage clothes are,
they kicked ass. :-)

Think of every cheesy power metal stereotype out there transformed into a
real-life band.
I'm tempted to hit the Baltimore stop on this tour, but the ticket price is
almost $30, real steep (too steep) for a club show. Are all the US dates
similarly priced?

As far as I'm concerned, the jury is still out on John Mayer. While I do not dispute that he posseses some sort of musicianship, especially at his age of 24, I think time will tell if he has the chops to make seriously substantial sounds. After all, when Mr Mayer was a toddler, people were thinking that Christopher Cross (responsible for such mellow tunes as "Sailing") was a display of remarkable talent, but that assessment is dubious today, IMO, due to his choice of sounds and imagery. For his sake and for the sake of humanity, I hope that John Mayer doesn't become this generation's Christopher Cross.
I seriously think, woot and all you musical mavens here on the Jam, that people like John Mayer and Jack Johnston, among others, would not be enjoying this much exposure if it weren't for the success of another short-haired singer/songwriter with an acoustic guitar: Dave Matthews. Now hear me out on this one: Dave and his collaborators are great musicians who are excellent peformers and artists. Of course, DMB have gained massive success due to mellow songs like "Satellite" and "Crash Into Me," but it is clear that they take more musical chances than the whole lot of "adult-alternative" or "adult contemporary" acts that are present on the American airwaves today. However, it is easier for those who aspire to be Dave Matthews to appropriate his mellow vibe (as in the case of John "Don't call me Oscar" Mayer) than to incorporate his intricate, almost insane musical passages.
