Lots of anti-Phish sentiment around here, a good deal of it obviously uninformed.
Newsflash: Mike Portnoy is a huge Phish fan, or Phan. Asked what one other band he'd like to drum for, what did he say? Ding! Ding! Phish.
Go listen to 'You Enjoy Myself' and come back and THEN we'll talk. If you've not heard them and are voicing an opinion, do us all a favor and shut up.
Hugs, Mike

and a big `ole "AMEN" to that one. adam, i agree entirely. i think Phish
are incredible musicians, and could play circle's around any of the bands
their being lumped together with (especially the `Dead. never liked them
or understood what was sooo great about them. NOTHING like Phish).
however, instrumentation aside, they ruin it as soon as they open their
damn mouths. trey should just stick to the guitar. it deffinetly is
where his talent lay, not vocals. not for a second. though i loved
Oysterhead, that was what killed that project to. it was the ONLY
detriment to the music, and the same is true of the Phish material.
thanks for bringing that up adam. peace.

The same way Genesis and King Crimson members say they were never prog rock
bands. Categories aren't (usually) just - the fits aren't cut and dry for
most, particularly since the music critics and record labels are the ones
doing the assignments. In truth, it's pretty funny to read interviews
where bands vehemently deny belonging to 'subgenre x', since often those
that argue loudest are the ones most deserving of the label.
As for Phish, I admit that I like the band, stupid lyrics and all, but
don't care for most of the other vaguely similar bands. An ex-roommate
subjected me to hours upon hours of bootlegs, enough to kill my tapedeck,
so I figure I gave 'em all a fair enough chance. More than fair enough in
many cases: the Dead = audio torture.

Can't say either way on full album covering, but bands have been changing
up their set nightly for decades. I'm afraid Phish can't claim that
innovation.

Ahh... perhaps I'm mistaken then. :)
But then again, I'm a thrash/industrial/classical/pop influenced musican
who has been snapping up as much of the Ozric's back-catalogue as I can.
Can't wait for November 5th. :)

Hi all,
Yesterday I've been to a gig of a new prog-rock band called Trespass. The band (Drummer, Bass player and keyboard player) are based in Jerusalem but they have already been invited to several world-wide fetivals.
They have a debut album on the french label of Musea (http://www.musearecords.com) named "In Haze of Time".
Their style is best described as ELP meets Genesis (as suggested by their name), however they have taken the influence one step ahead; the music is unlike anything I've ever heard in the genre. The bass lines are very dynamic, the drumming is extatic, the keyboards are all over the place. The main keyboard sound is the hammond, with synth lead and piano bits added when appropriate. The interesting point is that when I said to the keyboard player (and part-time vocalist; the music is mostly instrumental) how much his playing style reminded me of Keith Emerson's, he told me that he only started listening to prog-rock AFTER they have written the album... Only then the drummer gave him a copy of Tarkus and he thought to himself 'Well, I guess we didn't invent this stuff after all'...
To make a long story short - if any of you has access to a store holding records from the Musea label, get "In Haze of Time" as soon as possible; you won't regret it.
